381 | the hidden pride | Ps 26:2 | azurelaw | 208285
"It is a horrible thing to be lukewarm in our faith; zeal is an excellent thing. Yet, more than all other Christian virtues, it is zeal that needs to be strictly watched and examined. Sin, and particularly the sin of price, so easily become mixed with it." --- Jonathan Edwards |

384 | Lights and shadows of spiritual life | Ps 39:13 | azurelaw | 210203
"Your sun shall no more go down; neither shall your moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended." "Beyond the stars that shine in golden glory, Beyond the calm, sweet moon, Up the bright ladder saints have trod before you, Soul! you shall venture soon. Secure with Him who sees your heart-sick yearning, Safe in His arms of love, You shall exchange the midnight for the morning, And your fair home above. "Oh, it is sweet to watch the world's night wearing, The Sabbath morn come on! And sweet it were the vineyard labor sharing Sweeter the labor done. All finished! all the conflict and the sorrow, Earth's dream of anguish over, Deathless there dawns for you a nightless morrow On Eden's blissful shore. "Patience! then, patience! soon the pang of dying Shall all forgotten be, And you, through rolling spheres rejoicing, flying Beyond the waveless sea, Shall know hereafter where your Lord does lead you, His darkest dealings trace, And by those fountains where His love will feed you Behold Him face to face!" --- Octavius Winslow |

387 | A contrite heart in salvation | Ps 51:17 | azurelaw | 233058
"Conversion is not the smooth, easy-going process some men seem to think....It is wounding work,of course, this breaking of the hearts, but without wounding there is no saving.... Where there is grafting there is a cutting, the scion must be let in with a wound; to stick it on to the outside or to tie it on with a string would be of no use. Heart must be set to heart and back to back, or there will be no sap from root to branch, and this I say, must be done by a wound." - John Bunyan (The Excellency of a Broken Heart)
388 | Lean Hard | Ps 55:22 | azurelaw | 210204
It is by an act of simple, prayerful faith we transfer our cares and anxieties, our sorrows and needs, to the Lord. Jesus invites you come and lean upon Him, and to lean with all your might upon that arm that balances the universe, and upon that bosom that bled for you upon the soldier's spear! But you doubtingly ask, "Is the Lord able to do this thing for me ?" And thus, while you are debating a matter about which there is not the shadow of a shade of doubt, the burden is crushing your gentle spirit to the dust. And all the while Jesus stands at your side and lovingly says, "Cast your burden upon Me and I will sustain you. I am God Almighty. I bore the load of your sin and condemnation up the steep of Calvary, and the same power of omnipotence, and the same strength of love that bore it all for you then, is prepared to bear your need and sorrow now. Roll it all upon Me! Child of My love! Lean hard! Let Me feel the pressure of your care. I know your burden, child! I shaped it—I poised it in My own hand and made no proportion of its weight to your unaided strength. For even as I laid it on, I said I shall be near, and while she leans on Me, this burden shall be Mine, not hers. So shall I keep My child within the encircling arms of My own love. Here lay it down! Do not fear to impose it on a shoulder which upholds the government of worlds! Yet closer come! You are not near enough! I would embrace your burden, so I might feel My child reposing on My breast. You love Me! I know it. Doubt not, then. But, loving me, lean hard!" ---Octavius Winslow |

390 | Being tried for holiness | Ps 66:10 | azurelaw | 213478
"A glass of liquid may seem clear enough when it stands still, but when stirred it soon reveals sediment that is in the bottom. This happens to many children of God. They seem to have very calm hearts until affliction empties them "vessel to vessel" (Jer. 48:11). When this happens, problems come to light, such as testiness, lack of faith, love of worldly things, and many other faults. That was what happened when the servant girl of the high priest confronted Peter, stirring up his fears and doubts. (Matt 26:69). The Lord sends affliction upon the godly, to bring their shortcomings to light so that they will deal with them." --Willem Teellinck |

392 | Ps. 82:6 "ye are gods" | Ps 82:6 | azurelaw | 216325
Dear Brother John, Thank you for the kind words. Yes, we should be mindful of our own heart. May the Lord have mercy on us and continuously shine into the darkest corner of our heart so that we may repent and bear fruit for His glory. Ps 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Matt 6:22 "The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. Matt 6:23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! Shalom Azure |

396 | who was the oldest man | Ps 90:10 | azurelaw | 203762
Dear Tamara, Welcome to the forum. You say : "...their age then went down to 120 years as the Bible says;..." Did you get the idea from Gen 6:3? If so, how would you reconcile the scripture with the following fact? The scripture would not be wrong, but just our interpretation could be mistaken. Repost of an old post #133609 by following him: "If God limited the life span of men to 120 years, and this restiction came before the flood, how is it that those after the flood lived to well over 120 years. Shem - 602 Arpachshad - 438 Selah - 433 Eber - 464 Peleg - 239 Reu - 239 Serug - 230 Nahor - 148 Terah - 205 Abraham - 175 Issac - 180 Jacob - 140 All of these men except Shem were born after the flood. So it appears that perhaps God was not talking about the life span of man when He mantioned the 120 years. If He did, then why did these all live so much longer." Thank you for your further enlightenment. Shalom Azure |

Psalm 112:1-3 Dear forum friends and siblings in Christ, Today is the Mid Autumn Festival where the moon rises in its fullness and symbolizes perfect harmony. Chinese families gather together for dinner (just like your Thanksgiving) in hoping for a close, loving bond of all family members. May I also take this opportunity to wish you all be blessed and your houses and families also be blessings to many. May He restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers (Mal 4:6) that His name be glorified forever. Shalom Azure |
