743 | verse on sabbatical year | Jer 34:8 | azurelaw | 197456
Dear Cheri, Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated. The verse (Jer 29:10) you quote is a prophesy about the duration of the Israelite being in captivity under Babylon as per my understanding. I am not sure if it has any connection. What I am looking for is whether there is a historical record showing it the sabbatical year when Zedekiah made the covenant to set free the slaves according to Moses law. Shalom Azure |

744 | why does Elisha need music to intercede | 2 Kin 3:15 | azurelaw | 197419
Bass, wow, definitely. We are very much in need of bass and it has been a headache for me to get more. You know, Chinese males are usually slim (comparatively) thus take part mainly as tenors. Thanks for your offer. :-) Azure |

745 | why does Elisha need music to intercede | 2 Kin 3:15 | azurelaw | 197412
Dear Brother Doc, Thank you for your kind words. I remember you told me about that you seldom listen to music (if you meant classical sacred hymns or music) and at that time I thought you have missed so much in enjoying the spiritual harmony through classical sacred hymns or music. There were times when I was doing my housework and started the CD with those sacred hymns in hoping to get a more relaxing atmosphere while working, I can tell you that I could never continue my work but just sit down, listen and meditate; well sometimes I do join the CD to sing as well :-) Psalm 47 Shalom Azure |

748 | Death penalty Biblical? | Romans | azurelaw | 197238
Original question is : Is the death penalty Biblical? NOT Is death penalty right? Nor what's our OPINION or FEELING on death penalty? Please stick to what scripture said in both OT and NT (i.e. the whole Bible). God holds the ultimate sovereignty and His willful delegation of such authority as in Roman Ch 13. Shalom Azure |

750 | Death penalty Biblical? | Romans | azurelaw | 197178
Dear Julie, I understand this topic is highly controversial and I would refrain myself from any debate. You have quoted many verses however, we have to be careful not to take the scripture out of its context to fit our opinion. I cannot speak for or against capital punishment myself for I am truly a human with all kinds of weaknesses. (If possible, how I love to see there is no need of capital punishment at all.) I rather seek what is being said in the scripture and I believe the below article does a much better job than I in concern with the issue. http://www.gotquestions.org/death-penalty.html Shalom Azure |

751 | Death penalty Biblical? | Romans | azurelaw | 197162
Dear Julie, I see little relevance of this verse speaking against the issue of death penalty. The context of Rom 12 talks about the behaviour of saints and urge us to love one another in Christ unity; encourage believers on how to deal with tribulation and persecution. Read furhter to Chapter 13, Paul said "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God." (v 1) and in v4 "for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil." clearly indicates the role of the governing authorities. Please read the case of Ananias and his wife Sapphira (Act 5) and Jesus' quote in Mat 15:4 that it does not support the view that death penalty being unbiblical. Shalom Azure |

754 | New covnant w/ Isrl or proph on Christ? | Jer 31:22 | azurelaw | 197006
Dear Doc, Thank you for your time spent for helping me out. I have also read John Calvin's commentary. Though I find his a strong argument, I still have trouble in understanding as per below:- If the verse renders the meaning as a weak woman stands for the Israelite under captive and the mighty man the "Babylon", and being regarded as a sort of revolution, this I would agree with John Calvin's notion saying it a wonderful thing. But I don't see it a new thing created. Then how should I rightly understand the phrase "the Lord HAS CREATED a NEW THING..." ? Please let me know if I did not make my question clear. Again, thanks for your patience. Shalom Azure |

Dear One River, Welcome to the forum. Great answer! I am a bit confused. Are you in association with user Shikaratane (i.e. husband or wife?). If so, it is good to see you register under separate accounts to avoid confusion. By the way, it would be also appreciated that if you could fill in more information about yourself on your user profile. God's blessings to you. Shalom Azure |

Dear Doc, Thanks for the answer. It helps a lot. However, one more doubt : why not use "conceive" instead of "compass". Does it bear any special meaning or message to the Israelite in the time of Jeremiah's by using this word? Shalom Azure |
