522 | Saved by belief or belief and baptism? | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 79244
Other OLD post ... Mark 16:16 does say that you are saved before baptism ... when it says "he who has disbelieved shall be condemned" ... it does not say "he who has believed and has not been baptized shall be condemned". Moreover, Acts 10:44-48 proves that salvation was before water baptism, as does Acts 2:38. Read my posts for these passages. |

524 | SBC, says democratic proces is Biblical? | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 81065
Scripture ... Acts 6:3-6; 13:1-3 ... justme, I hope I have the three types correct. Off the top of my head, these passages seem to support the democratic processes, which I would call congregation rule. The body makes all decisions. Tho, the latter God seems to be directly in the process. Remember the US has a republic processes, which I call elder rule. The body elects people to make choices for them. The third type is pastor rule, which I equate to a monarchy. There is Biblical support for each, I believe. Searcher |

525 | SBC, says democratic proces is Biblical? | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 81075
I think the BFM is a guideline ... but if a church goes too far, SBC will take steps, I think. I am not sure what they do in cultures w/o a democratic process. I've attended an SBC and now attend an elder rule chruch. While I do miss a direct vote, in some matters, I don't miss the fighting at business meetings. Good 'ole boys may rule no matter the type of leadership ... in some churches. |

Also have have looked at the last week of His life ... compare all the Gospel accounts? Until you do, do not respond. Read my post to Milty. Searcher |

528 | Pre-Tribulation Rapture | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 94809
Scripture ... Revelation 20:4-6 ... 20:4 Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 20:5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. 20:6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. DarcyA greetings ... Your list does not include this passage. So which is it ... the second coming or the rapture? I believe it is the latter (first resurrection) ... and it happens after the tribulation, based on the placement in the book and the context. Searcher |

529 | Introducing the English Standard Version | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 94967
Darcy, there are many illustrations we use to try to explain the Trinity. They aren't three parts of a whole. Nor are they three different forms of one person, either ... they all exist all of the time, at the same time. The frozen lake illustration is good (one of the better ones), but like the water, egg, shamrock, triangle, human mind, infinity, marriage, apple (or another food), or even me (son, husband, father) ... they all fall short. I just accept that it is true. Searcher |

Darcy ... One problem with relying on translations is that we may miss the original language. The aorist participle, like most participles (future participle is an expection), do not in themselevs denote time. Think of an aorist participle like a noun or adjective ... timeless. The future indicative is most frequently used to show that something will take place in the future. I like to use www.crosswalk.com in my study. Searcher |

531 | Darcy ... Where does Rev 20:1-6 fit in? | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 95005
Actually ... it is not ALL of the dead in Christ ... only those -who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, -and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, -and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; ... came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years (Rev 20:4) |

532 | And what about those who will die before | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 98239
Be VERY careful when you read or listen to anyone. Many will twist Scripture or quote man ... saying that it is truth. It is tradition or a trend ... but if it is not total truth, it is trash. Study and search Scripture to see if it is so (Acts 17:11). |

533 | And what about those who will die before | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 98324
Dachande ... Let me try with an illustration ... As an unbeliever we have a need for a heart transplant. We need to make the call asking for a new heart. As with the real world, the heart costs us nothing (it costs the donor their life). Now in order to live, we need to work out our heart ... that costs us nothing. The working out is proof of our free heart. Don't stop at Ephesians 2:8-9 ... go to verse 10. Then ... "So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure" (Phil 2:12-13). |

537 | What is God's part in my santification?. | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 100595
You asked "Am I still on the right track for thinking that Joe has the right answers regarding practical/experiential sanctification?" I say again, Joe FAILS to support what he says with Scripture ... which makes me suspect. Read what I said ... read the Scripture passages and the context around it. You may not want to hear what I say (read what I write) ... but, I think you need to study Scripture yourself. |

538 | what passages bind and rebuke satan | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 118724
WTB - 1 Peter 5:8-9 "Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world." NONE of the passages you quoted are about binding Satan ... plus, I have shown we only can resist him. |

540 | what is worship,what is praise | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 120795
Romans 12:1 ends, "your spiritual service of worship". Having both service and worship not make sense, since it only appears once in the original ... logikh;n (spiritual) latreivan (service) uJmw'n: (your). The King James Version translates the last phrase, "which is your reasonable service." Which fits better. The rest of the chapter, even up to Romans 15:22 is about our service. Proskuneo is the word for worship in Greek. The Greek verb for service is latreuo. Latreia is the Greek noun form. Three times proskuneo and latreuo are linked together (Mat 4:10, Luk 4:8, Rom 1:25). Never is latreuo translated worship. The same is true for the Aramaic (Dan 3:12,14, 18, 28) and Hebrew counterparts (Exo 20:5, 23:24, Deu 4:19, 5:9, 8:19, 11:16, 17:3, 29:26, 30:17; 1 Kin 9:6, 9, 16:31, 22:53; 2 Kin 17:16, 21:3, 21:21; 2 Chr 7:19, 22, 33:3; Psa 97:7; Jer 25:6). Do not think service as being worship, tho they are related |
