My brother in our Lord, Tim, God's day to you, It is apparent some just want to read the English. I wonder and have asked why Acts 2:38 is not translated, so Campbelites and others can try to use it to say we need to be baptized to be saved. I've never rec'd a clear answer. I'll be away until Sunday night ... if a post needs attention, will you cover for me? I know we differ on the "beds issue". Steve |

Tony ... When you say "MOST commentators and early church fathers" ... do you have evidence? That is specific numbers. Nonetheless, I for one, do not care if you are correct. When tradition and trends are not the truth, they go in the trash. "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it" (Matt 7:13). Many follow the crowd and do not check Scripture (Acts 17:11). I carefully study Scripture and found that what many believe is not correct. Tony, forget what you have been told ... study more deeply ... see the truth for yourself. See if Tim is correct. More later, Searcher |

Taleb, There is a question pending for you on Matthew 24:14 I have questions about this string, too. - is the regarding one day above another and observing the day ... -- the difference between (some of) the Jewish and Gentile believers (Acts 10:11-16, 15:28-29)? -- have to be the Sabbath - first day of the week issue or can it be the other special days in the OT? - is there a command to worship on the Sabbath? - is there a command to worship on the first day of the week? - what is difference between worship, keeping a day holy and gathering together -- do those who chose the first day of the week, keep it holy? - where does it say the first day of every month is the first day of the week? Let us read about the "first day of the week" "On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul began talking to them, intending to leave the next day, and he prolonged his message until midnight" (Acts 20:7). -There is only one time when they gathered together "on the first day of the week" ... and since Paul was there seven days (vs 6), could they have gathered together the other days ... and it was the day before he was to leave, so could it have been a special occasion? - Did Paul change his customs from Acts 17:2 to Acts 20:7. What day did he reason in the synagogue in Acts 18:4 "On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come" (1 Cor 16:2)". - Where does it say to "gather together" or "give" on the first day of the week? All I see is "to put aside and save" ... if I "save" I cannot give. - When did workers get paid in Corinth? |

Perhaps I can help ... There should be a priority: - Master (Luk 14:26) ... God must be number one, so if the one you care about doesn't love Him first, there is danger. That includes unbelievers (2 Cor 6:14) - Mate (Eph 5:22-33) ... our mates and family take second place. Too many people put work ahead of their family. - Mission ... while mission is third, you and your mate must desire the same mission. I've seen spouses that were unhappy because they did (not) go oversees. |

Indiana Jones You said, "The modern state named Israel is not mentioned in the Bible" ... However, some of those in Israel can trace back to Abraham thru Isaac and Jacob (Istael). Doesn't that make them the Israel of the Bible? Moreover, what about the future prophecies that deal with Israel ... how do you handle them? Searcher |

You said, "I believe it's common knowledge that when the temple and genealogical records were lost or destroyed in 70 C. E. by the Romans under General Titus" ... Were all genealogical records kept in the Temple? Didn't people keep their own? Didn't people memorize their own genealogical records? Nonetheless, there are prophecies unfulfilled by Israel ... Romans 9-11 is one example. |

452 | Is your modern translation corrupt? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 80781 | ||
No, I read what the English says. When I compare it to the Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic, I see problems. I saw this when I studied the word worship. There is a wide range ... Young's Literal Translation - 27 results ... to Contemporary English Version - 1077 results I say "all translations lead us wrongly" because we will fail to see worship as being prostrate being one who absolute rule over me. Translators, even KJV, have let culture ditate how words should be ... and in the case of worship, it has been redefined. When I studied worship I didn’t just take the words; I looked at the context… - I looked at who we worship. Are all the names and attributes of God, related to worship? - I asked why we worship, what is the purpose? - I’ve been taught that some activities (proceedings) were worship, yet was this how we should worship? - I wondered is there a special place we worship? - Finally, when can I worship… what do I need to do to prepares to worship. Radioman, you said, "Christianity is based on the HISTORICAL FACT of the resurrection of Jesus Christ." I would replace "HISTORICAL FACT" with "FAITH" ... I base this on 1 Cor 15:1-34, in particular verses 12 - where some were saying there is no resurrection of the dead ... and they were living when He arose 14 - "if Christ has not been raised, then ... your FAITH also is vain" (Emphasis added). 17 - "if Christ has not been raised, your FAITH is worthless" (Emphasis added). Read my my to Hank ... I do not need facts to believe, just faith. Searcher |
