3201 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | Searcher56 | 58385
508, Emmaus is correct. There are consequences for our actions, even if we ask for forgiveness and are granted it. Also, there is no conditions in Timothy and Titus. In fact, there are states which would jail a pastor for having sexual relations with a member of the church. Searcher |

This was a brother who was not a leader ... there is forgiveness. Notice there is no restoration to his position, if he had any. Searcher
3203 | Church is kidnapped to Sodom! | James 2:8 | Searcher56 | 58389
Eating idol meat was a sin to some, but not to others. Sexuaul sins violates Scripture, therefore is a sin to all. Your analogy is wrong. The pastor must go and never preach again. Searcher

CONSEQUENCES FOR LIFE ... Once again, and for the final time, Paul writes twice the qualifications of an overseer. If you don't meet them, you are not allowed to be an overseer. If you are disqualified while an overseer, you may longer be an overseer.

3210 | Why keep the Moral Law? | James 2:10 | Searcher56 | 19371
We could keep those. But, all food is clean according to Mark 7:19. Nonetheless, the dietary restrictions were and are sound. Feast days have not been done away with, neither has taking a bath on Saturday. He may of fulfilled these, but are they done away with? Searcher |

3211 | Are Pastors Held 2 Higher Accountability | James 3:1 | Searcher56 | 189402
God's day to you, CheriD and welcome to the SBF, I too hope you stay around. It would help if you entered info in your profile. While forums are good, I pray you seek a wise older Christian woamn - both in age and the Lord, to disciple you. You'll be able to see her in the flesh and she can give you step-by-step direction in your growth. She and the SBF can address questions you have. No matter what you see, read or hear, always check it out angainst Scripture (Acts 17:11). If you think something is amiss, ask the source for to show in the Bible there reason and ask another wise Chistian. As you grow, be willing to change what you believe based on what you read in the Bible. I have made adjustments to my beliefs on certain things as I grow in the Lord. As I teach, I know I have a higher standard, as James writes in this verse. It is because those younger in the Lord are listening. Searcher |

3213 | Is there "speaking in tongues" mentioned | James 3:8 | Searcher56 | 148277
Tim - I knew the language - Japanese, so I knew they were cursing Jesus. I gave them a chance (Matthew 18). 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 came to mind when they were doing it. I think Corinth had fake tongue speakers. When we look at the context (chapter 12), tongues is one of the gifts. Not everyone has it, as with the rest of the gifts. Steve
3214 | Is there "speaking in tongues" mentioned | James 3:8 | Searcher56 | 148292
Tim. I don't think they knew Japanese. I asked them "Anata no namai wa nun desu ka?" ... What is your name? ... They looked at me with a strange look. I believe you know that the temples in Corinth also spoke in tongues. I haven't studied chapter 14 enough to prove the when Pual used the singular tongue, he meant the fakers and when He used the plural tongues, it was about the spiritual gift. I do agree with ... If a 'tongue' is needed, GOD GIVES IT - as with the other gifts. But, to certain people. For you, it is preaching, which is needed often. When I have heard some who didn't have the gift - I wondered if anyone there had the gift and didn't exercise it. I have the gifts of teaching, administration and discernment. The latter dosen't kick in too often, and I wish I didn't always have it. It has caused "problems" or maybe it was just fear. Steve |

3215 | Is there "speaking in tongues" mentioned | James 3:8 | Searcher56 | 148298
Tim, I learned Japanese as a first-and-a-half language. I went to Japan when I was four, and to play with the neighbor children, I chose to learn it from them ... and my parents who went to language school. Since it has been 39 years since we left, I have forgotten most of it. The points you made make me discount the singular-plural view. Steve PS I have a question posted on given (didomi). |

3218 | Why is complianing singled out? | James 5:9 | Searcher56 | 13015
Nolan, This post didn't get in either. I think the complaining is against each other. We shoule be united and not worry about petty things. It will cuase even church splits and people not working for the Lord ... because so-and-so did this-or-that. Steve |

3219 | What makes us stop singing praises? | James 5:13 | Searcher56 | 12930
I was hoping to get an answer here, even if it is from the experts. This question makes one think. We stop singing praises because we think we are not happy ... soemtimes we don't do it if we are happy. I think if we focus on the kingdom we would be happy. Steve |

3220 | How long do we suffer before we pray? | James 5:13 | Searcher56 | 13017
Kakopatheo (Strong 2553) is the word in Greek. Kakos (Strong 2556)(troublesome, injurious, pernicious, destructive) plus Pathos (Strong 3806) (whatever befalls one / a feeling which the mind suffers) Used in 5:10, 2Ti 2:3, 9, 4:5 ... it is from the enemy. Pray right away and always for strenght from the Lord - we cannot battle alone. Steve |
