3142 | Judgement:preachers who curse nontithers | Heb 7:8 | Searcher56 | 79295
Why didn't Paul teach the gentiles about tithing? Because tithing was a non issue. Support what you said, "We can't just except that they continued to pay tithes, since the Law was made annulling and tithes were part of it." |

3143 | Holy Spirit prior to Pentecost?? | Heb 7:17 | Searcher56 | 231620
God's day to you, Doc, A minor isssue. The Bible say "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha" (2Ki 2:15) ... it doesn't say "The Spirit of the Lord/God". Having a "double portion" (vs 9) of the Holy Spirit doesn't make sense to me. One either has the Holy Spirit or not. Nonetheless, I think they had the Holy Spirit All prophets (Neh 9:30; Zec 7:12; Act 3:18; 2Pe 1:19-21). A couple of more the Bible specifies Micah (Mic 3:8) Zechariah (Zec 4:6) Searcher |

3145 | OT Promises for New Testament believers? | Heb 8:9 | Searcher56 | 60556
Mommapbs, It should be 2 Chr 7:14. 2 Chr 7:13 "If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, 14 and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. We, as Christians, may be His people and called by His name. However, we do not have land, which describes a nation, in particular Israel. It is important to read the entire context. This verse also is not the USA. We are not His people and nor called by His name. We have not seen locust for awhile. Romans 9:23-26, 30 is about us Gentiles ... Romans 9:27-29, 31-33 is about Israel. Searcher |

3146 | no more animal sacrifice | Heb 8:13 | Searcher56 | 218705
God's day to you, Yen, Did God accept the sacrifices after His death until the final destruction of the Temple? I think about Hebrews 7:27 (I noticed Tim's post after I wrote), as well as what is missing in the other NT books. What is missing is the fact no more sacrifices. Then we read millennium sacrifices in Ezekiel 40:38-39, 45:13-17. So does the Bible say to stop the old system? Searcher |

Yen, 2 Will God again honor the sacrifices of the Jewish people, (for the forgiveness of sin) when they are reinstated, after the rebuilding of the Temple? Yes, read millennium sacrifices in Ezekiel 40:38-39, 45:13-17 ... chapters 40-46 is about the new temple and "worship". S |

3148 | no more animal sacrifice | Heb 8:13 | Searcher56 | 218735
God's day to you, Yen, 1 Did God honor the sacrifices made by the Jewish people, (for the forgiveness of sin) until the destruction of the Temple? Yes - God gave the command to sacrifice (Lev 1:1-6:7, 23:13,37). There are exceptions to the yes (Isa 29:13, Mar 7:6-7). I don't read anywhere to stop sacrificing. Searcher |

3155 | Five Questions for Church Membership | Heb 10:19 | Searcher56 | 216254
Doc, Dr. Duncan's second point is The Church’s Worship – Corporate, All of life. I disagree. I consider that service. Romans 12 is about service. Worship is the special time we acknowledge God's superiority. While some can't bow phyiscally - we all better do it in our heart. His third point is ... when we say “I do” to the question that we will support the church in its worship and work to the best of our ability, we are saying that we are committed to the church’s work in worship, discipleship, and outreach. I don't see anything about by the power of the Holy Spirit ... nor use of my spiritula gifts, also from Him. My OWN abilities will lead to failure. S |

3156 | Five Questions for Church Membership | Heb 10:19 | Searcher56 | 216260
Doc, I do understand the Reformed branch ... but in my studies I disagree with some points, including the ones I mentioned ... 216254, it was the how worship is defined and "my OWN ability". If we don't study other Scripture beyond the Confession of Faith, Baptist Faith and Doctrine, et. al. I never take anything on face value. I also don't trumpet my differnces ... every much. I grew up in a Pietist Baptist (BGC) church, changed to Reformed Baptist (SBC), attended Presbyterian and Christian and Missionary Alliance churches. I understand the differences ... and it is not a big deal. Since their belief about God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, man, salvation and eternity are the same. The other points are minor. 3157 | Five Questions for Church Membership | Heb 10:19 | Searcher56 | 216262
Doc, Raed post 215242, which includes my view of worship and service. I never said worship was one day a week. Nor did I say it was a congregational activity. Worship should happen more often, even daily, by indivduals. Yes, it can be a congregational activity. I think we miscommunicated on the Holy Spirit. I see it missing in point 4. Dr. Duncan has it elsewhere, but I wish he would have included our ability by His power. "A ninth generation Presbyterian elder" ... I think of Paul (Phil 3:4-7). If you read my profile, you'll see I differ on some minor issues. If I trumpet them, they could cause disunity. Searcher |

3159 | What day are we COMMANDED to gather? | Heb 10:25 | Searcher56 | 220515
God's day to you, Randy, okaeri nasai (welcome back), I agree we should gather and know the verses you cited. The counter is in Acts Paul met on the Sabbath (13:14,27,42,44, 15:21, 16:13, 17:2, 18:4). There are places where Christians can gather - but it must be Friday ... Saturday for some. Steve |

God's day to you, lightedsteps, Constantine only made Sunday the day of rest, not the day of "worship", in March 321 ... "On the venerable day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed" (Codex Justinianus lib. 3, tit. 12, 3; trans. in Philip Schaff, History of the Christian Church, Vol. 3, p. 380, note 1). Socrates Scholasticus, a church historian of the fifth century A.D., wrote, "For although almost all churches throughout the world celebrate the sacred mysteries [the Lord's Supper] on the sabbath of every week, yet the Christians of Alexandria and at Rome, on account of some ancient tradition, have ceased to do this."[Ecclesiastical History, book 5, chap. 22, in The Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers (NPNF) Second Series, Vol. II, p. 132.] The early church did not just gather together on Sunday ... or the Sabbath. We may not say one is right or wrong. Sozomen wrote, "The people of Constantinople, and almost everywhere, assemble together on the Sabbath, as well as on the first day of the week, which custom is never observed at Rome or at Alexandria."[ Ecclesiastical History, book 7, chap. 19, in NPNF, Second Series, Vol. II, p. 390.] Searcher |
