3041 | Cultural errors corrected by Scripture? | 1 Tim 3:1 | Searcher56 | 159863
Sctipture ... 1 Corinthians 11:1ff ............. Aliennow, God's day to you, For example, when Paul wrote 1 Corinthians, there were many corrections in the letter, including the position of women - men in the first half of chapter 11. Some say that it only applies to that group, and is not universal. I contend that it was a problem in Corinth, that was not in line with God's standard. Side nore: There are things that I now consider wrong, but before I didn't. It is not written in the Bible asa wrong ... it is something I belive God told me is wrong. |

3042 | What does 1 Tim 3:2 mean? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 6925
Phillip ... While we now are off the path, Matt 5:32 ... Unchastity was limited in its application to the husband’s discovery after the wedding that his wife had not come to the marriage a virgin. Matt 19:9 ... Back up a verse - It was the hardness of their hard, but it was not always that way. So, a man can divorce his wife, if she was not a virgin before they got married, and some say after ... but, it is because of a hard heart God allows it. Therefore, I do not think it is a good reason. It is the relationship between God and Israel, as well as Christ and the church. Hosea (and Gomer) shows that God is forgiving |

3043 | More on 1 Tim. 3:2 | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 6969
This is a minor point so I will continue no more. I do not need a "single credible Bible scholar" to have my same view ... (s)he could be married with children :-). I take the Bible literally and the passages you presented support my idea. Some say one is a one-woman man, even if she dies, but, not according to these verses. Children? Very interesting. Steve |

3044 | More on 1 Tim. 3:2 | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 6970
I read the Bible literally. - Paul was not the leader of a single church, so this does not apply to him. He wrote Phillipinas while in prison. Someone else was in chargge. - Jesus is married to the church If you use the OT for examples ... what day do you gather together with belivers ... do you tithe as the Teknah dictates (3 of them). BTW, it dose not say if Ezra or Nehemiah were not married. This is a minor point - I will carry one no more. |

3045 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7194
... continuing (my post was truncated) so with the other requirements I can talk with them. Also, look at 2Co. 1:12; 2Ti. 1:3; Heb. 9:14, 10:22, 13:18 and 1Pe. 3:16, 21 on the conscience. There may be other verses. |

3046 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7195
Nolan ... 1Co. 4:4 says we have a clear conscience, even if we are not innocent. Yes, we are blameless before Him. Read my posts below on this verse ... and have you had your posts truncated? Steve |

3047 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7203
It is verse 5, but, verse 3 begins the context. I think it is hard if we try by ourselves. As with all we do ... we need Christ. We need to study the Word and know what we do is right. It can be hard to stand up and tell the false teachers that they are wrong. We do not want to offend. Even more so if they are over you, or if you are in the military and the chapalin (who outranks you) preaches falsehood as truth. |

3048 | clear conscience | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 7254
But, some chapalins are ... I have dealt with both. As well as pastors who did not want to be corrected.
3049 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 22792
Raul ... I don't see Stanley's name on the list and I do not care what the "experts" say. I refuse to listen to ministers who don't meet all the qualifications. Searcher
3050 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 22836
Scripture ... 1 Tim 3:2, Tit 1:4, 2 Pet 1:16-21 ... Raul, No divorced pastors (1 Tim 3:2, Tit 1:4) also has its "experts" ... and I also studied 2 Peter 1:16-21 in the context of verse 20. If we cannot interpet Scripture, then all you can do is read it, including the qualifications for a pastor. I'm done on this thread. S |

3051 | Why use the ambiguous word "Temperate"? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 83691
Scripture ... Mat 28:19; Mar 7:4; Luk 11:38; Act 2:38; Heb 6:2, 9:10 ... Most think baptism should be "immersion". In Mark 7:4 and Hebrews 9:10, the word is baptismou;ß (baptismos). It is translated baptisms in Hebrews 6:2. This connects the purifcation of the OT with NT baptism ... by washing. Baptismos is a noun masculine. It is from the word found in Luke 11:38, which is baptivzw (baptizo) ... the same word found Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38 and 76 other places. Baptizo is verb. Take note of the differences in the parts of speech. Also read Post 5606 Searcher |

3052 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 174564
God's day to you, magellan2019, and welcome to the SBF, The church tends to focus on this one from the list, eben tho leading the list is he must be above reproach ... a point you mentioned. As you probably know there is no word for wife, in the Greek. The issue of being a one woman man will be debated until He comes. As is the issue of being temperate ... doe that mean no alcohol ... even in food ... fruitcake? Then there is being prudent, respectable, hospitable ... and more. It is commendable for one to DQ himself because of the convictions. Stand by them, as Paul told Timothy later in this letter. Searcher |

Victrix. Please expalin "This Scripture also shows the wrongness of not letting an overseer or bishop of the congregation marry as organizations have stipulated. These teachings must have come from demons as is stated at 1 Tim 4:1-3."
3055 | standards for a preacher/biship | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 187724
God's day to you, justme, On May 11, 2000, an Atlanta judge signed the final divorce decree. I cannot find anything stayign they remarried, tho they tried to resolve the marriage during their separtion. When did they remarry? The gold ole boys and the church said he could stay just as long as he didn't remarry. Dr. Stanley had an excuse for his going back on his word. Searcher |

3060 | Qualifications of Deacons | 1 Tim 3:12 | Searcher56 | 57946
Mae64, if the elders and anyone who knows the by-laws and consitution ... must act. It sounds like your church is congregational rule. If the pastor does something contrary to what is written, I believe he can be voted out. There must be documented facts. It takes guts, but you may have to speak up in a business meeting ... after you speak to the pastor. I've done this. But, the people still wanted him. We left ... and a few months later, he left, too. It is very sad when pastors and others do not want to do what is right. Searcher |
