Jensen, falling backwards is more significant, than just falling to the ground. They may of got their feet tangled up. Pipto (fall down) is a word used to describe worship. I cannot remember where and I don't have my notes. I'll look tomorrow. Searcher |

284 | Why do people lose interest and leave? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 21229
Personal note ... Nolan, good to hear from you. I tried that with the book of James. I'm thinking a minor prophet could prove most enlightening. But, there may not be any interest. I'm studying Jeremiah now. What about the Sermon on the Mount, the Gospel of John or 1 John. I know you like Matthew. Just some ideas. Searcher (Steve) |

285 | How do I study the bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 21370
Personal note ... Prayer is a must in study ... Mazon51, I am sorry that I didn't answer your question. Tim, Kelkat, Ed B and Nolan gave fine answers. It depends on what you mean by study. Reading the Bible thru in a year in one method. But, I prefer taking a book and taking my time. Currently, I am in Jeremiah. The first chapter took four days. I have both a study Bible and a Serendipity Bible ... the later asks a lot of question and I come up with more. As I said in the begining prayer is key. Start with it, asking God to speak to you, including application. I have even prayed in the middle, becuase I may have adjusts. Pray at the end, thanking Him. I hope this helps, Searcher |

286 | Why do people lose interest and leave? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 21451
Personal Note ... Don't rush in quickly Sire Pent, I just read Ed's post and I agree. I thought we were only at the initial brainstorming phase. I don't mind studying 1 Peter ... and there still will be questions. I think for this study to work, we need to have a link, so we can go to the Bible study. There would be sub links like 1:1-2 . 1:3-12 ... Tim, or whoever is leading would need to ask the web master to put in the sub link. This would give control. The leader would have to decide when to move on. The leader would have to ask open ended questions, which could be separate posts. We would need to limit the cut-and-paste of commentaries and "expert" views. Just some ideas, Searcher |

Scripture ... Neh 1:4, 4:4,9, 5:19, 6:9,14 ... There are some examples of Nehemiah's spontenaous prayers. Just because the words aren't recorded mean it was a silent prayer. Searcher |

290 | salvation and sanctification | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 22404
Correction and Hebrew words ... soterion is Strong's 4992 ... Since sanctification isn't in the OT, I used sanctify, which is qadash (Strong's 06942) in Hebrew, which means set apart, consecrate, hallow. Salvation in the Hebrew is y@shuw'ah (Strong's 03444), yesha' (Strong's 03468), mowsha'ah(Strong's 04190), t@shuw'ah (Strong's 08668) ... all using the root yasha' (Strong's 03467) meaning to save or deliver. Sorry I didn't add this part in before, Searcher |

Scripture ... Exo 33:10, 34:8; 1 Sam 1:3; 2 Chr 29:28; Neh 8:6 ... LisaMarie, In all the verses that you cited, the Hebrew word for worship is shachah (Strong's 07812). It means to bow down, prostrate oneself before superior in homage. There are activities related to worship: -stand up from what position you were in first (Exo 33:10) -bow low without the homage (Exo 34:8) -sacrifice are related to, but not worship it self (1 Sam 1:3) -some sang while others worshiped (2 Chr 29:28) -The Taknah was just read, the people were blessed, said "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up their hands, THEN bowed low aand finally worshiped (Neh 8:6) Also, praise is related to worship, but they are two different activities ... the same is true for service. Most have mistaught about worship. I have done an extensive study on worship. If you want my paper, send me an email @ sbuttle@qwest.com. Searcher |

Scripture ... Matt 4:10, John 4:20-24; Rev 4:10 LisaMarie, Proskuneo (Strong's 4352) is the NT word for worship ... it means kneeling or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication. Does "I'm not Hebrew and I don't follow Jewish practices," mean you do not read or follow the OT? Why did you quote the OT? Yes, listen to the Holy Father and not men, not even me ... -If you search the Scripture, the Holy Father will show you that there is one way to worship, by definition. -That God is not your Friend, when you worship (along with other names and attributes). -There are some activities that aren't related to worship, tho some men say they are. -You must prepare for worship and there is not a specific place. Get a lexicon and concordance and pray alot, Searcher |

Sir Pent, I do not care what the dictionary says, only the Bible. I know people think and are told they have a wide array of how to worship. But, I think we need to practice for the scenes we read in Revelation. IMHO, Searcher

LisaMarie, Proskuneo (Strong's 4352) is the Greek word for worship. It is not the same as giving glory (doxa), tho giving glory to Him can be related to worship. We have changed the definition of worship, as well as love, the church, gentleman ... and maybe we will change what salvation means, so we think more will be saved. S |

Hank, I'd use the lexicon. Look up the word gentleman ... it has changed, as well as gay. What does the dictionary say "church" is? There are other words the Englsh has twisted ... causing me to shout. S
