543 | What did you learn | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 178021
Lionheart was trying to get you to link 1 Corinthians 1:29 with Acts 2 (and speaking in tongues) ... including reading the CONTEXT of 1 Corinthians 1:29, which is verses 18-31, I may even start in verse 17. What do you see about being foolish and wise ... both of the flesh and God? Bottom line how does this passage relate to Acts 2? |

544 | tongues? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 178020
What is your Biblical support for "people speak in different languages and that they can also end up understanding the teaching of God in there own language" Acts 2:6-13 is about people hearing their own language being spoken by several people ... then starting in verse 14 Peter spoke in his own language - the Gospel message. |

545 | I desire the gift of tongues how 2receiv | 1 Cor 12:11 | Searcher56 | 178019
Scripture ... "But covet earnestly the BEST gifts" (1Co 12:31) ............................. It does not say ALL. Again notice that tongues is near the bottom. In the CONTEXT, while we should have zeal (covet earnestly) the BEST gifts, the Bible says "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills" (12:11). "All do not speak with tongues, do they?" (12:30) answer is NO, as with the other questions in this CONTEXT. No one gift is pssessed by all, and I doubt no one person has all the gifts. Each of us has our gift(s) for the body. |

546 | speaking with the tongue? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 178016
Scripture ... 1 Cor 12-14 ... You cite 1 Cor. 12:28 and 1 Cor. 14:5. The gift of "various kinds of tongues" is a lessor gift (12:28-29) and one of many and "tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe" (14:22) ... rememeber this key point. Notice "with tongues" (12:30, 13:1, and "in tongues" (14:18 and more) are both used in this passage.. |

547 | speaking with the tongue? | Bible general Archive 3 | Searcher56 | 178015
Scripture ... "And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying" (Acts 19:6). God's day to you, Liliesofthefield, Acts 10:46 says "speaking with tongues and exalting God" ... so when on the two times when "speaking with tongues" was seen in the NT at salvation (only two of many), two different actions accomanpied them - not one. 548 | Can angels sing? | Job 38:7 | Searcher56 | 177721
Word study ... Lego, Ado, Humneo, Psallo ....... God's day toyou, azurelaw, The word here is lego (to say, to speak). Ado is one Greek word for sing (Re 5:9, 14:3, 15:3). Humneo and Psallo are two others in Greek. Methinks it is a translation issue. S |

God's day to you, MJH, Bottom line - Spirit inspriation ... How Q and other documents may influenced the writings, all Scripture is inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16). Even the timing was up to Him. Don't put too much into who was first. GOD IS FIRST. Searcher |

558 | I have a lesson to present to my class t | Mark | Searcher56 | 177073
God's day to you, trace, I found the following In this week’s reading from Mark, Jesus questions the disciples about his identity. The conversation leads to Peter’s confession of "You are the Messiah." (Messiah means anointed one.) The gospel of Mark now takes a dramatic turn. Jesus’ ministry through Galilee, which wanders with no seeming destination, suddenly aims toward Jerusalem. Turning points come when we encounter God’s unconventional wisdom inviting us to risk for the gospel’s sake. Jesus’ disciples discover a Messiah who risks suffering for the well-being of all people. Wisdom calls us to turn and follow unexpected paths. http://kccucc.org/ChristianEducation/christian_education.htm Also go to http://www.ucc.org/worship/samuel/s091706.html ... there may be others ... but - study the Scripture first, letting God speak to you - then read other sources, giving them credit - word what you read in your own words and for your audience |
