Word Study ... Didasko (teach), Kerusso (preach) ... Parable Scripture distinguishs teaching from preaching, they are two different Greek words, see above. They are used thrice together (Mat 11:1 Rom 2:21 1Ti 6:2). Since YOU don't want anything more than Scripture, that is all you get. I normally would explain the difference. |

384 | Scripture alone? | James 1:5 | Searcher56 | 191914
Once more ... you cited Luke 24:45 and James 1:5 in your first post in this thread. However, I proved that you took these verses out of context. Therefore, if you want to cite onlt Scripture, you must know the context, else it is pretext. Moreover, some people need interpetation, just in Nehemiah 8, as well it is part of teching (Acts 18:25, et. al.). Do not cite verses out of context. |

385 | Scripture alone? | James 1:5 | Searcher56 | 191894
You FAILED to get my point ... you want to use Scripture only, citing Scripture that was out of CONTEXT. Do you understand?

God's day to you, justme, If a book contradicts Scripture at any point, should we read it? It doesn't matter if it is 99.99 percent pure, that .01 percent means I will not read it. Searcher |

391 | Why do people in the OT live longer? | Genesis | Searcher56 | 190762
Hundred and twenty years is the the time left until the flood. Many lived more the 120 years, after the flood - so your point is not correct. Even one after Israel was in Egypt. "As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away" (Psa 90:10). Searcher |

Organizations have extra-Biblical rules. It is one reason that causes divisions. They usually don't violate the Bible. If you disagree - don't make it an issue ... or don't go. Searcher |

394 | Preach Love of Christ or Obiedience | Ps 103:19 | Searcher56 | 190696
Scripture ... Deu 5:10, 11:1-13ff; Jos 22:5; Jhn 14:15-24; 1Jo 2:4-6, 3:10, 4:20 ... God's day to you, Todd, We don't know the whole picture, yet can I can relate to your situation. We left a church because I sensed a problem with our new pastor. I asked him to stop what he was doing - I didn't know what. The Spirit clued me in there was trouble. Soon it came to light, people left and later, he did. Love and obedience go together. Read Deuteronomy 11, looking at verses 1 and 13, in the context. Also, read other OT passages (Deu 5:10, Jos 22:5). John 14:15-24 is part of one of his last speeches. Also, read 1 John 2:4-6 ... and the context of both, and all you read. I think it is important to include OT passages, whenever you can. Loving God is primary and that includes -letting Him be Lord in all with our all Then loving others, which seem harder to do. Read 1 John 3:10, 4:20. This includes the "one anothers". Searcher |

396 | Interpreting Revelation | Revelation | Searcher56 | 190495
God's day to you, Brother Kalos, You made a true statement and now others want to debate it. My thought is that (too) many people want to study the future, and put aside the rest of the Bible on how to live today. I know there will a Great Tribulation, He is coming, I am going to live forever and millennium reign ... as well as other events in the Bible - but NO ONE knows the timing, except God. S |

397 | Can I go to Heaven if I smoke? | Eph 2:8 | Searcher56 | 190344
God's day to you, Jeanne Malt, I commend your desire wanting to break a habit. There are tools to help breaking the smoking habit. While we can encourage you here, I hope you find some Christian lady who broke the habit to assist and encourage you. The most important thing is your prayer and commitment daily not to smoke. Figure out when/ where you smoke and aviod those times/ areas ... or do another activity, if it is something like after you eat. Stay around and interact with you, Searcher |

Zoe, You said ... "if you believe in war then you fall under the law. Jesus taught us to die for what we believe, not to kill for what we believe" -How is war part of the Law? -"From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty" (Rev 19:15). This sounds like He will make war ... read the context - at least the whole chapter. S |
