327 | More harm then good? | Eph 4:16 | Searcher56 | 203128
God's day to you, Steve, The reason I would teach "knowing our spiritual gifts" as part of the basics class, is so that one knows where they fit in. I don't know of Scripture that tells us how we know what gift(s) we have. To compound this from our feeble minds is, I see they can change. When the Spirit *wills* (1 Cor 12:11) ... means it is continuous, which I think He can add, or take away. Also, some gifts can be thought as "natural" ... and I wonder if there is a difference. If I have a natural gift of helps (1 Cor 12:28), that I used before I was a believer, can it be considered a "spiritual" gift? Searcher Searcher |

328 | More harm then good? | Eph 4:16 | Searcher56 | 203110
God's day to you, Steve, 1 Corinthians 12 is my may thrust ... verses 11 and 18 shows me God choses our gifts and to be preacher, when one doesn't has the gift usurps God and His choice. Also, the same is true if we have a gift and don't use it. "But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills" (1 Cor 12:11). "But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired" (1 Cor 12:18). It was why we need to know our spiritual gift(s) and then use them. I think it should be part of Christianity 101. Searcher |

God's day to you, Azure. Sorry ... I had a fat finger typo ... it is homiletic, which is public preaching. The word from the Greek means to assemble together. Soem churches have homily which is a commentary on the Bible reading. While he taught how to preach, he didn't have the gift. Searcher |

Scripture ... 'David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has taken away your sin; you shall not die' 2 Sam 12:13. God's day to you, upset, God forgave David who committed adultery and murder, as well as he coveted ... I also think he bore false witness and stole. Read 2 Samuel 11-12 and Psalm 51. While forgiven - there were consequences. You are forgiven. Dealing with the consequences - you need to talk with a qualified Christian counsel. Start with you pastor. With prayers, Searcher |

336 | George Muller: Bible Reader | 2 Tim 2:15 | Searcher56 | 200571
God's day to you, dear brother Hank, The church I attend, away from home, has a plan for us to read thru the Bible in a year. The pastor is preaching thru the Bible. He is fairly close to the section of Scripture we are. On Wednesday, we have Rewind, where we discuss the past weeks section. I like the reading plan, but if I don't study as well, it could be like reading the newspaper. George Muller read the Bible theu, he studied His Word. Searcher |

338 | how do i convince my wife to follow me | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 198982
tannerman, I commend you for moving. There are churches that are dying, or even exploding - in numbers. There is lack of passion, desire to grow spiritually, willingness to invite others (local missions) and discipleship. The "good ole boys" are content. Methinks like the Pharisees during Jesus time (before and after, too). Searcher |

339 | What does Bible say about making out? | Matt 26:41 | Searcher56 | 198071
God's day to you, johnn2877, Philippians 4:8 comes to mind. Also, my dad's advice "Looky, talkly, no touchy" is tough, but sound. Physical activity ... - gets in the way of getting to know the person - can cause arousal in one or both ... which causes problems Promise to not spend time together where there can be any questions raised. Promise to seek wise counsel - an older Christian couple, that your pastor recommends ... and be accountable to them ... if possible, one or both your parents. Remember that love is a commitment first. Also, that you two may part ways (I have with one I loved) ... and their future spouse should be able to come to you to thank you for how you treated each other. In closing be the spiritual leader, if you aren't already. Steve |
