3181 | In context change literal to figurative? | Bible general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 13019
There, is Mat 5:29-30 figurative and the verses before and after literal. Does it make sense to switch back-and-forth in this context?
3182 | Are there exceptions to submitting? | Rom 13:1 | Searcher56 | 13018
Norrie, I don't have a quota. I aks questions do stimulate growth in others. I love to teach, so I ask questions. You did bring up Danile, which I have forgotten. Thank you. Steve
3183 | How long do we suffer before we pray? | James 5:13 | Searcher56 | 13017
Kakopatheo (Strong 2553) is the word in Greek. Kakos (Strong 2556)(troublesome, injurious, pernicious, destructive) plus Pathos (Strong 3806) (whatever befalls one / a feeling which the mind suffers) Used in 5:10, 2Ti 2:3, 9, 4:5 ... it is from the enemy. Pray right away and always for strenght from the Lord - we cannot battle alone. Steve |

3184 | How could Paul hand him over to Satan? | 1 Cor 5:5 | Searcher56 | 13016
Nolan, a third post not in. I think this is a step beyong Mat 18:17. The church was not even taking the action of vs 15. Steve |

3185 | Why is complianing singled out? | James 5:9 | Searcher56 | 13015
Nolan, This post didn't get in either. I think the complaining is against each other. We shoule be united and not worry about petty things. It will cuase even church splits and people not working for the Lord ... because so-and-so did this-or-that. Steve |

3186 | Is the Christian under Law? | Ex 1:1 | Searcher56 | 13014
point 1 - It is interesting that you are saying that we don't need the Bible to know about right and wrong. point 2-Did Christ accomplish the fulfillment of the law? I don't think so. On the cross, He paid for our sins. That is why He said "It is finished." ... I cannot fulfill or even keep the whole Law ... The OT saints I mentioned did not have the Law to know right from wrong. I did read your posts and mine din't get there. So I'll have to redo. Steve |

3187 | Halloween for Christians? | 1 Thess 5:22 | Searcher56 | 13012
In what ever we do we need to ask "Will it bring glory and honor to His name?" If it is not a double yes, don't do it. So to answer your question, it depends on one's own conscious. Steve |

3188 | How many guards? in Matthew 27:65 | Matthew | Searcher56 | 13011
What a string of posts. I remember being on guard duty in the Army. Sometimes it would be one, with a relief. But, if it was an important place there would be two. If one would try something, the other would shoot to kill. One would patrol and the other would stay at the post and we'd rotate. Jesus was very important.
3189 | Why does Paul say "not I, but the Lord"? | 1 Cor 7:10 | Searcher56 | 13010
JVH0212, Nolan and EdB, Yeah. Thank you for your solid responses. I did not ask the question because I believe differently than you. I asked it to get us to think. Well done, men. Steve
3190 | How do we live "as if" we had no wife? | 1 Cor 7:29 | Searcher56 | 13008
Nolan, that is true. Paul has just counseled single persons, in view of the present crisis, to remain single (1Co 7:26). Should they, however, decide to marry, they would not be sinning. Yet, as married persons, they would "face many troubles in this life," and he wants to spare them this difficult time (1Co 7:28). There are four more "as if" contrasts, of various areas of life and work and relationships. The point Paul makes is simply that all of life must be lived in a new key, because we are new creatures. Even with the "present crsis" ... there could be a separation ... and we need to be prepared for it. Steve |
||||||
3191 | Why are we not to look back? | Luke 9:62 | Searcher56 | 13006
so true .... we want to see whence we came, like Lot's wife. Good thing we don't experience instant death.
3192 | What makes us stop singing praises? | James 5:13 | Searcher56 | 12930
I was hoping to get an answer here, even if it is from the experts. This question makes one think. We stop singing praises because we think we are not happy ... soemtimes we don't do it if we are happy. I think if we focus on the kingdom we would be happy. Steve |
||||||
3193 | MEANING OF 40CHAPTER V 11? | Isaiah | Searcher56 | 12924
Elijah Couldn't He be both to the same people?
3194 | How can we return to our first love? | Rev 2:4 | Searcher56 | 12923
There, I like 'Can we work hard for anyone (doing the best we can do), yet not love that other person?" ... I would say "fully love". I think that we get caught up we doing things for the Lord ... but do not spend time with Him, in prayer, praises (song) and Scripture. Preachers and teachers study for what they present us. But, forget to do a separate study for themsleves. Steve PS There are many who do go thru the motions |

3195 | Is the Christian under Law? | Ex 1:1 | Searcher56 | 12906
Law defined as conditions placed on a people, by an authority, having positive or negative consequences ... and is all 613 in the OT. Grace is the willingness of those in authority to have mercy where punishment should be given. |

3196 | God is the Director, not an actor | 1 Sam 9:1 | Searcher56 | 12895
God is the Director, not an actor ... from today's message. He used -the donkeys to plod around for three days. -a son, Saul, who was obedient to look for them. -a servant who was --aware, by knowing a seer was nearby --prepared, by having a quarter of a shekel --willing to ask directions from women --willing to leave so Samuel and Saul could talk -a seer, Samuel --by telling him ahead of time Saul was coming --then again as he arrived --who knew where the donkeys were, but had other priorities Saul was not seeking to be king, only the donkeys. The servant was unaware of his role and the donkeys were even more cluless. Yet, all played their part. Because of all this Saul was annointed king. God directs us to places ans people. Are we willing to play our part? Do we want God to be an actor, too? |

3197 | How long do we wait before we call? | James 5:14 | Searcher56 | 12877
We don't want to bother others with our small ailments. I agree with you that we should. Also, we shouldn't expect the (senior) pastor to come visit us. Some only want him. We should be willing to go visit the sick. Steve |
||||||
3198 | Whose prayer offered in faith is it? | James 5:15 | Searcher56 | 12874
I agree, just because I am sick means it is because I sin. Look at Job. When I sin, I don't always become sick. I know cases where one (elder or the one sick) had lack of faith. The person was healed, to the surprise of the one with lack of faith. I think about the faith of the four men who opened up the roof (Mar 2). The man's faith caused his sins to be forgiven, but, I think it was their faith (not his) that healed him. Steve |

3199 | 2 Cor. 1:20 | Romans | Searcher56 | 12761
wdc, let me add, as you study always look at the context and never force you thoughts into Scripture. I. too, will pray for you as you search. Here it is about the gospel message preached, God made many promises about Christ coming in the OT. There are other promises made in thr OT and NT, but that is not what is being said. Steve PS Sorry Ed if I repeated what you said |

3200 | How do we live "as if" we had no wife? | 1 Cor 7:29 | Searcher56 | 12701
What does Paul mean? How can one live with one's spouse "as if" one had none? And why should we have to or want to? How and why is "shortness of time" a factor in favor of living "as if"? |
