381 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Ray | 138227
Hi Mommapbs, Excellent thoughts here I think. There are a couple of things that you might consider however. 1) Ezekiel 36:26 talks about our receiving a heart of flesh instead of the heart of stone. So when applying this passage to our lives as believers, the heart is still flesh. You have said, "Daily we have a choice, to live from the heart or live from the flesh." Romans 8:1-14". I think that it would be better said that we have a choice to live according to the (s)Spirit or walking according to the flesh. 2) We set our minds according to the things of the (Spirit). Romans 8:5. And in the same way the (Spirit) also helps our weakness. Romans 8:26 1 Cor 7:32, "But I want you to be free from concern. One who is unmarried is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord; 33 but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how he may please his wife, 34 and his interests are divided. And the woman who is unmarried, and the virgin, is concerned about the things of the (Lord), that she may be holy both in body and spirit; but one who is married is concerned about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. 34 And this I say for your own benefit; not to put a restraint upon you, but to promote what is seemly, and to secure undistracted devotion to the Lord." 3) I have penciled in a lower case "spirit" for Ezekiel 36:27. That spirit within us is the power that the Spirit gives us. That spirit is the new heart, that spirit is what we should be filled with, that spirit is what we should clothe ourselves with as the holy ones chosen of God. Colossians 3:12, "And so, as tose who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the (Lord) forgave you, so also should you. 14 And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity." The word of Christ richly dwells within us, and we should be filled with joy and the holy spirit, teaching and admonishing one another. 4) We are to live godly lives, but God is the Holy One, the only true God; and we are simply saints or holy ones. In Ezekiel 36:23 the Spirit of God is proved holy among us. From the heart, Ray |

382 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Ray | 138166
Hi Mommapbs, Jeremiah 17:9, "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?" Perhaps you could contribute some thoughts to #137809 so that we can decide whether we are trying to have a heart of a god or of God. How much are we capable of doing on our own? How much are we capable of doing even if we have help from God? Jeremiah 17:9, "I, the Lord,/ search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds." Contrast/compare Ezekiel 28:2 Ezek 28:2, "...Because your heart is lifted up And you have said, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas'; Yet you are a man and not God/, Although you make your heart like the heart of God--" Again, do we want to make our hearts out to be like a god's or like the heart of God? What are we capable of? What does Satan think that he is capable of? Ezekiel 28:2, NKJ, "Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, 'Thus says the Lord God: "Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,' Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of god 3 (Behold,...and your heart is lifted up because of your riches)," The NKJ sees the subject of the passage as having set his heart as the heart of a god, while the NASB reads "Like the heart of God". What do you think? Psalm 82:6, "I, on my part said, "You are gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High. Nevertheless you will die like men, And fall like any one of the princes." 8 Arise, O God, judge the earth! For it is Thou who dost possess all the nations." From the heart, Ray |

383 | Are our hearts HOLY or Wicked? | Eph 3:17 | Ray | 138149
Hi Mommapbs, Men's hearts are wicked. But when Christ dwells in our hearts by faith and we know the love of Christ, we are filled up to all the fullness of God. When God proves Himself holy and His word washes us clean, then we receive a new heart and a new spirit within us. Then we serve in newness of Spirit and follow the law of Spirit-- of life in Christ Jesus because God condemned sin in the flesh. Ephesians 3:17, Romans 7:14, Romans 8:2. Ezekiel 36:26, "Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put My *spirit within you and cause you to walk in (My) statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. 28 And you will live in the land that I gave to your forefathers; so you will be My people, and I will be your God." Ephesians 3:20, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the *power that works within us, to (Him) be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen. I hope you had a blessed day. From the heart, Ray |

384 | Compare 2Sam24: 1-25 with 1Chron21: 1-30 | 2 Sam 24:1 | Ray | 138145
Hi Doc, I agree with you; no argument from me there. I like your Scripture references as well. Acts 4:28, "to do whatever Thy hand and *Thy PURPOSE predestined to occur." Ecclesiastes 3:17, NKJ, "I said in my heart, "*God shall judge the righteous and the wicked, For there is a time there for every PURPOSE and for every work." Ecc 7:13, "Consider the work of God, For who is able to straighten what *He has bent? 14 In the day of prosperity be happy, But in the day of adversity consider--God has made the one as well as the other So that man may not discover anything that will be after him. 15 I have seen everything during my lifetime of fultility; there is a righteous man who perishes in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man who prolongs his life in his wickedness. 16 Do not be excessively righteous, and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself? 17 Do not be excessively wicked, and do not be a fool. Why should you die before your time? 18 It is good that you grasp one thing, and also not let go of the other; for the one who fears God comes forth with both [Lit. all] of them." I like the NASB over the NKJ for verse 18. NKJ reads "For he who fears God will escape [Lit. come forth from all of them] them all." So the NKJ says that you come forth FROM all of them and the NASB say that you come forth WITH all of them. We take the good and the bad that life gives us do we not. Isaiah 45:7, NKJ, "I form the light and create darkness, *I make peace and create calamity; I the Lord, do all these things." The BOLD face and the stars are mine for comparisons. 385 | God is our Rock; is He our (s)Stone? | Ps 54:7 | Ray | 138007
Hi Steve, Do you want to look at some Scriptures with me? There are fifteen verses that have the word "(h)Helper" translated in the NASB. Eight are in the Old Testament. Personally, I only have Psalm 54:4 with a capitalized "Helper". I have Helper penciled in for that verse because I see it as an excellent match with John 14:16. Psalm 54:4, NKJ, "Behold, God is my **Helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life." John 14:16, "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another **Helper, that He may be with you forever." The Holy Spirit is recognized in the New Testament as the Helper. He is One called alongside to help. Jesus our Helper leaves and He sends the Holy Spirit to us. John 16:7, "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if **I go, I will send Him to you." I compare/contrast Psalm 54:4, "Behold, God is my **Helper" and Hebrews 13:6, "The Lord is my **Helper". The Scripture reference for Hebrews 13:6 is Psalm 118:6. Psalm 118:5, "From my distress I called upon the **Lord; The Lord answered me and set me in a large place. 6 The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:6, "so that we confidently say, "The Lord is my **Helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?" The **stars are for the comparisons that I see. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, Thank you for your work here. So the key is the "no 'elohim' ELSE besides me". Or in English "no OTHER 'elohim' besides me". The verses that I would note then to compare are Deut 5:7, "You shall have no other gods before [Margin note, Or besides] Me." and Isaiah 45:21, "And there is no other gods besides Me." Hi Tim, Nobody wants to talk to me so I am back to bug you. :-) You wrote in 2) that you would go with "There is no other". I compared Deut 4:35 with Deut 5:7 with you already; and I wonder about Isaiah 45:21. Do you know if the Hebrew has actual word "God" in the phrase "And there is no other (gods)God before Me"? In other words is the word in the actual Hebrew so that we would even have to make the decision for lower or upper case? From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, We are pretty much set in our individual interpretations here so...all that is left to do is for me to call you a fool and you to call me a liar. :-) Then we can just go back as we were and join the rest of the forum. :-) I was comparing a couple of verses today and thought I might share them with you. I want us to continue to seek God and to find the one true God. Romans 3:4,..."Rather, let (God) be found true though every man be found a liar, as it is written, "THAT THOU MIGHTEST BE JUSTIFIED IN THY WORDS, AND MIGHTEST PREVAIL WHEN THOU ART JUDGED." Psalm 53:1, "The fool has said in his heart, "There is no [ELOHIM]," They are corrupt, and have committed abodminable injustice; There is no one who does good. 2 God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men, To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after (God). 3 Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one." If you can not find any reason to use capitalization and interpret through capitalization, I guess I can't argue it any more with you. Love you brother. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, I don't know how this post snuck by us without being answered, but I am happy to be able to talk with you once more on the subject. We've already had a good discussion on this verse I see. We both have looked at John 1:1,2 and see it as correctly interpretted as saying that the Word was God, not a god. This One [He,the Son, the only begotten God] was in the beginning with God. We have considered the Greek and realize that it does not capitalize. But I would have you comitted to an understanding of capitalization in the English language. And as I have said in regards to John 1:1, it is important to distinguish between "god" and "God". I would say that God is not a god; but rather, that He is God. 1) Scripture tells us that there are indeed many lords and many gods, but there is only one God, one Lord, one Spirit. 2) Deuteronomy 4:35, "To you it was shown that you might know that the (Lord), He is God; there is no other besides **Him." Deuteronomy 5:6, "(I) am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. You shall have no other gods before [Or, besides] **Me. Isaiah 45:20, NKJ, "(I) declare things that are right. 21b Who has declared this from ancient time? Who has told it from that time? Have not I, the Lord? And [there is] no other God besides Me,..." Could we not in that last sentence say "And [there is to be] no other gods besides **Me,..."? That would be comparable to the Deuteronomy passages. 3) I want to speak to this post of yours now. You have expressed to me that the Greek does not deal with capitalization and you have not been interested in capitalization. However, I feel that you are trying to have it both ways as can be seen in your comments here. a) Is 43:10: You have gone with the NIV rather than the NASB, NKJ, or the KJ. "Before me no god was formed," This lower case implies that God is a god. b) Is. 44:6: The verse reads "apart from me there is no God" yet your comment is that it clearly says "apart from God there is no god." "There is no God" and "there is no god" is not the same thing. c) Is. 44:8 "Is there any God besides me?". You see the verse as asking if "there is any god besides God?" "Any God besides me" and "any god besides God" is not saying the same thing. d) Is. 45:14: "God is with you, and there is no other;" Verse 18: "I am the Lord, and there is no other." And yet you go with the NIV for verse 14 where it says that "there is no other god." I can not see why you go with the NIV which again implies that God is a god. e) Is. 45:21 I have already considered by saying that there is to be no other gods before Him. He is the only One able to save. A righteous God and a Savior, there is none other. f) Is 46:5: To whom would you liken (Me), And make Me equal and compare Me, That we [sic] should be alike?" We can not compare God with man; nor can we compare Him with a god, for there is no one like Him. God is not a god. From the heart, Ray |

391 | Ps 54:4, "Behold, God is my (h)Helper | Ps 54:7 | Ray | 137887
Hi Steve, These are excellent Scripture references and I found them helpful in knowing God as our help and our deliverer. He is our refuge and strength in the time of trouble. As far as in deciding whether God is our Helper [sic] and whether that is one of the names that the Lord would use; these Scriptures do not help. I do see them as matching verses that have the same messages. Ex 18:4: The (God) of my father was my help, and delivered me... Ex 3:15: The (God) of your fathers...This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations. Ex 4:5: that they may believe that the Lord, the (God) of their fathers...has appeared to you. 2 Sam 8:6-14: and the (Lord) helped David where he went. 1 Chron 18:13-19:13: The participants helped each other in their own individual cause and may the (Lord) do what is good in His sight, is what I see in the passage. Ps22:19: O Thou/ my help, hasten to my assistance. Verse 24 But when he cried to Him for help, (He) heard. Ps 37:40: And the Lord/ helps them, and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked, and saves them, Because they take refuge in Him. Ps 38:15: For I hope in (Thee), O Lord; Thou wilt answer me, O Lord my God. Psalm 40:17: Since I am afflicted and needy, Let the Lord be mindful of me; Thou art my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my (God). Ps 46:5: God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved. God/ will help her when morning dawns...The (Lord) of hosts is with us;..." Ps 54:4-6: I will give thanks to (Thy) name, O Lord, for it is good. Psalm 63:6,7: When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee/ in the night watches, For Thou has been my help, And in the shadows of Thy wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to (Thee); Thy right hand upholds me. Ps 70:5: O God, hasten to deliver me; O Lord/ hasten to my help! The slashes and parentheses are mine for comparison. As I said, they are excellent verses to prove that He is a constant help in the time of need, but they do not speak to Him as being our Helper. From the heart, Ray |

392 | why would God allow his son to die fo us | John 3:16 | Ray | 137812
Hi Hank, Good answer as usual. God has the power to change people. I might offer an additional Scripture reference that speaks to the questions like "What makes you think he will protect you if he wouldn't protect his own son?" Here is a good reply to that. Romans 8:31, "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?" From the heart, Ray |

393 | Who is Ezekiel 28:13-15 referring to? | 2 Thess 2:4 | Ray | 137756
Hi New Creature, MacArthur's notes for Ezekiel 28:1-19. The MacArthur Study Bible, NKJV, 1997, Word Publishing. 28:1-19 This section concerning the king of Tyre is similar to Is 14:3-23 referring to the king of Babylon. In both passages, some of the language best fits Satan. Most likely, both texts primarily describe the human king who is being used by Sataan, much like Peter when Jesus said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan!" (Matt. 16:23). The judgment can certainly apply to Satan also. 28:2 to the prince of Tyre. Since "prince" is sometimes used to mean "the king" (37:24,25), the "prince" in v.2 is the "king" in v.12, Ittobaal II. The prophet is dealing with the spirit of Tyre more than just the king. This prophecy is dated shortly before the siege of Tyre by Nebuchadnezzar (585-572 B.C.). I am a god. Many ancient kings claimed to be a god, and acted as if they were (v.6). When this king claimed to be a god, he was displaying the same proud attitude as the serpent who promised Adam and Eve they could be like God (Gen. 3:5). 28:3-5 wiser than Daniel. This is said in sarcastic derision of the leader's own exaggerated claims. Here is an indicator that Daniel, who had been captive for years in Babylon, had become well known. 28:6-10 strangers against you...aliens. The reference is to invading Babylonians, and later the Greeks. (cf. chap. 26). God was the true executioner. 28:11-19 This lament over "the king of Tyre" reached behind to the real supernatural source of wickedness, Satan. Cf. Matt 16:21-23, where Peter was rebuked by the Lord, as under Satanic control and motivation. 28:12 the seal of perfection. The Lord led Ezekiel to address the king as the one to be judged, but clearly the power behind him was Satan. This phrase must be associated with Satan as one perfect in angelic beauty before he rebelled against God. But, it can also relate to "perfection" in the same context of Tyre's enterprise, topmost in its trade to the ancient world (27:3,4,11), glorious in her seafaring efforts (27:24), and the crowning city (Is. 23:8), i.e., "perfect" as Jerusalem also is said to be (16:14; Lam. 2:15). Full of wisdom. This referred to Satan's widom as an angel and to Tyre's wisdom (skill) in trade (cf. 27:8,9; 28:4). 28:13 You were in Eden. This could be Satan in the Garden of Eden (Gen. 3:1-15), or it might refer to Tyre's king in a beautiful environment, a kind of Eden. Every precious stone. This depicts Satan's rich investiture (Gen. 2:12), and/or Tyre's king possessing every beautiful stone as Solomon had (1 King 10:10). workmanship of your timbrels. This could refer both to Satan's once being in charge of heavenly praise and to Tyre's beautiful musical instruments used in celebration (26:13). you were created. Satan, however, is more likely to have such wealth and beauty, wisdom, and perfection at his creation than this earthly kind would have at his birth. 28:14 anointed cherub. This refers to Satan in his exalted privilege as an angel guarding (i.e., covering) God's throne, as cherubim guarded Eden (Gen. 3:24). Satan originally had continuous and unrestricted access to the glorious presence of God. I established you. This was true of both Satan, by God's sovereign permission, and Tyre's king. You were on the mountain. A high priviledge is meant, whether referring to Satan before God in His kingdom (mountain, cf. Dan. 2:35), or Tyre's monarch described in a picturesque analogy, as Assyria can be described as a cedar in Lebanon (31:3) to convey a picture of towering height. 28:15 perfect in your ways. This verse was not completely true of the king, but it was accurate of Satan before he sinned. Till iniquity was found in you. Satan's pride (cf. Is. 14:14; 1 Tim. 3:6) is in view here. 28:16 The description transitions to feature the king of Tyre, describing his demise, as he followed the pattern of Satan himself. 28:17-19 I laid you before kings. It would be difficult to relate this to Satan. The earthly king of Tyre, in his downfall, would be knocked or cast to the ground, cut down, and lie before the gaze of other kings. From Is 23:17 there is the implication of a revival under Persian rule (Neh. 13:16). Two hundred and fifty years after Nebuchadnezzar, Tyre was strong enough to hold off Alexander for 7 years. The Romans made it a capital of the province. Gradually it disappeared and its location is not prominent. End of quote. Hope it helps. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Kalos, A Lteral Translation of the Holy Bible, 1985,1995, 1996 by Jay P. Green, Sr is in the margin of an Interlinear Greek-English New Testament that I use. It uses capitalization of Deity similar to the NASB and NKJ so I would recommend that book as a gift. :) From the heart, Ray |

Hi Hank, I was thinking earlier that when you wrote "And the Holy Spirit, Who illuminines our hearts and minds to receive God's truth -- the spiritual aspect" that you were putting in a vote for the capitalized "Who". The phrase could just as well be interpreted/translated "the Holy Spirit, the One who" illumines. Do you agree? From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, Like I said, I hesitate to continue this long thread. But lets go to a different thread and verse and discuss this more. 1) You have said that "Scripture is clear that there are many things that are called gods, but there is only one god!" Perhaps this is the verse where we should start our new thread. You are saying that there are many things that are called gods, but there is only one actual, true god. That is what I disagree with. 2) You have said here that God tells us that there is 'no other god'. :-) But that is not the case. You yourself have told us that the Greek says that "there is no other gods". Lets go to 1 Cor 8:5 or 6 and discuss it there, O.K.? From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, I hesitate to add to this thread because of its length already. I am wondering however, if after all this discussion whether you feel the same need to stress the fact that there is no other god. You have said that Satan is not the god of this world, I believe, because of your belief in there being no other god. Has anything changed in your thoughts on this? From the heart, Ray |

399 | I need verses that say God is the ONLY 1 | Mal 2:10 | Ray | 137384
Hi InBetween, Welcome to the forum. The verse that came to my mind with your post is James 4:12. James 4:11, NKJ, "Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 12 Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, "The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously?"" The passage goes on and says in verse 12, "There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy..." I agree that there are other gods in the world, but the One who is able to save (and to destroy) is the one and only God. Jude 24,25, "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. From the heart, Ray |
