Let me ask a question was Noah saved by works or by faith when he built the ark?
42 | Teacher, when were the 11 rebaptized? | Romans | One | 67217
Brother this is exactly how I see baptism. There is nothing magical in the water. It is not because we are so good in obeying. Just as the grace of God spared the physical life of Naaman God has spared our spiritual life. Just as dipping seven times in the murky Jordan did not earn the right to be healed baptism does not earn us our salvation. Now you may sill disagree with me on baptism but at least you can understand why I feel baptism is not a work of our own. |

Ok we agree to disagree I wil note you said, "Scripture consistently calls for us to make a volitional response to His offer of salvation, but nothing more. To me Baptism is included in the volitional response. PS Im glad you have like some of my other posts Peace to you my Brother |

44 | Are christians sinners or not? | Rom 3:23 | One | 69371
1 Tim 1:15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. Notice he said this in the present tense. |

45 | Are christians sinners or not? | Rom 3:23 | One | 69380
What does 1John 3 mean? I like the way Jesus taught so let me start with a story. When I was seventeen my dad got me a job where he worked. There was a man that worked with him who claimed to be filled with the Holy Spirit 24 hours a day. He would then have a problem and he would say my stupid (expletive) truck that dumb (more expletives) mechanic was suppose to fix it. The mechanic, whom I worked with all summer, said you really take you religion seriously I never hear you speaking bad or listening to company gossip. This person did not even consider himself religious yet they knew the difference between someone who lived it and someone who did not. Now was I perfect? No. Have I been made perfect? Yes. To me verses if looked at out of proper context they conflict. Compare these two: 1 John 3:6 No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him. 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. So how do we bring these passages to a resolution? Let do another story. Say you’re a police officer and you come to a car wreck. You ask, “What happened?” One person says this blue van came up from the left and hit the brown car in the middle of the intersection. You speak to another witness and they say the van came from the right. Who is right, both are it is all just a matter of perspective when you consider the people where standing on opposite sides of the street. So what does this have to do with the price of a steak in St Paul MN? I think one passage sees us from mans perspective the other from Gods. One of the teachers in college said that the idea of justification was, just as if I never had sin. So when we see our selves and others we see sinners. People who have sinned and who win sin again. However when God looks at us, it is as if we never have sinned because He sees the blood of His perfect Son covering our shortcomings. 1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. I hope this explains my line of thinking well enough, one. |

Luke 18:13 "But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me, the sinner!' Luke 18:14 "I tell you, this man went to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted." To me it is a matter of humility. Paul says he is chief of all sinners because Paul considers his sin not as now and then but as a whole. I this would do all Christians well to see our sin as a whole and think of ourselves as chief of all sinners. When I was in ministry full time I saw to much of, "Well in not as bad as this person or that group." Notice Jesus say the man who beats his chest and says I am a sinner is forgiven. Peace, one. |

48 | Isn't Baptism neccessary for salvation?? | Rom 10:9 | One | 73097
The thief on the cross is such a mute point. It’s like saying Adam and Eve was not baptized. Look at Romans 6 there is speaks of baptism as being symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and it is our death, burial, and resurrection. So how could the thief be baptized into Christ death when Christ had not even die??????

Because the theif was not commanded to we are therefore if we don't obey we don't have faith.
50 | Isn't Baptism neccessary for salvation?? | Rom 10:9 | One | 73218
People quote John 3:16 so much do you understand the context of John 3:16? Nicodemus was told we must be born again of water and the spirit but Nic didn't get it so Jesus had to try to make it simpler for him. To me if we believe we will be baptised. Here lies my bone about baptism too, many people teach people to be save you must quote a prayer thats not in the Bible nor do we have and example of any where. Yet when it comes to baptism, wich is in the bible they leave it out all together when teaching of Jesus. Yes they do baptize them a year or a month later and I chanlange any one to show me a passage there anyone waited for any length of time to be baptised.
51 | Isn't Baptism neccessary for salvation?? | Rom 10:9 | One | 73220
So just how is someone saved in the church you’re at? The ironic thing I find people who don't say Baptism is essential have require the recitation of a man made pray to be the work they do prior to salvation. A prayer, I might add that is found no where is scripture.

Thank you for explaining to me only Greek scholars will go to heaven. Thank you for also in forming me Acts 2:38 and first Peter 3:21 have been destroyed by translation I never new that. In the future I would caution you one point. Matt 7:1 "Do not judge so that you will not be judged. "For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Therefore I would be very careful of your condemnation over doctrinal matters unless you feel you have attained doctrinal perfection. |

54 | Human judgement | 2 Cor 13:5 | One | 70246
John 7:24 "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment." I think in this case it is important to note that it is an unrighteous judgment that is wrong. At time Christians have to judge. If I were cheating on my wife my brothers in Christ would be obligated to tell me I was wrong. The problem arises when people judge by external things, like someone one told me, "If you don't wear a tie on Sunday you don't respect God.” So judge but only according to what God calls sin, nothing more or less. |

55 | What is the Link of faith and works? | Gal 5:6 | One | 70663
Rom 9:31 but Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not arrive at that law. Rom 9:32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone, I think Paul clarifies the whole works, faith issue. Paul uses Israel as an example and says they did not arrive at the law even though they pursued the law of righteousness because they didn’t do it by faith. It shows to me a condition of the heart. We can obey Gods law, give to the poor, and treat others well and not make it to heaven if we do it to earn our salvation. We can never become worthy of heaven by just doing good things because I can help 100 widows and 1,000 orphans and it still does not cover my wrong. Yet, I feel works are and essential part of a Christian life. Remember what Jesus said to the servant in the parable of the talents. He said, “You lazy, wicked servant.” Note working for Gods Kingdom is wickedness according to God. |

Im not sure what you mean by teaching. In some ways I see teaching as a gift that not all people have. Not every one can get up and teach a Bible class, although I do think every Christian should be a role modle and teach in this way. I would also say I would steer clear if you are trying to come up with a check list of I have to do X, X,X, and X before I can go to heaven. Well I am at work and leaving for the rest of the year, ha ha. I won't be back till Jan 6. |

58 | What is the Link of faith and works? | Gal 5:6 | One | 71625
Well I as I said in the proceeding note Bible class teaching and preaching I believe are gifts, these gifts can be developed as well. When I say it’s a gift is like God made some people to be naturally good at public speaking, with a quick wit. I don’t think though for a minute this lets us off in our role to be a witness of what Christ has done for us. I remember a guy named Brad who attended a church with me in Indiana, Brad had the IQ of a ten-year-old child. Brad did not have the ability to do a Bible study or teach a class. However, Brad when out every chance he could with another man from church and offered to cut peoples lawn if the would listen about Jesus. Did Brad have the gift to teach, No! Did Brad teach others about commitment to Christ, Yes! Hope this answers you question, one. |

59 | Only 144,000 to asend to heaven? | Rev 7:9 | One | 67817
I am sorry if I came across as abrupt but there is a certain religious group that says only 144,000 will be in heaven. I don’t believe that to be true and to the best of my knowledge there is not another denomination that accepts that view of this passage. I hope this did answer your question that before the throne of God the will be a vast number of people from every tribe on the earth. Again I am sorry if I jumped to quickly to a conclusion. I also hope this does not discourage you from asking more questions. The Bible is a great book and Revelations is a wonderful part of the Bible, although it is probably not the book to start with as Revelations has nearly 400 or more illusions back to the Old Testament.
