261 | Will suicide condem my soul to hell? | Bible general Archive 2 | New Creature | 101457
Scott My personal conviction is as follows: Since God's word says, "Thou shalt not kill" Exodus 20:13, then the killing of ones self by any form or method of suicide is self murder. I personnaly wouldn't want to committ suicide to find out later (in the next life) that the last act I committed in life was an act that God was displeased with. While we are living God gives us living grace, especially in difficult moments When it comes time for us to die, then God will likewise provide dying grace. But our times our in His hands, not ours. If you, or someone you know is considering suicide, I would reconsider, and not follow through with any attempts to KILL ones self. New Creature |

262 | Is there a way out of hell? | 1 Pet 3:19 | New Creature | 99493
DL5 Where do you read that I ever said there is an escape from hell. Or that I said that there is a purgatory? My statement was merely that "death and hell will be one day thrown into the lake of fire" just as the verse says which I quoted from Revelation. Being thrown into the lake of fire is not an escape!!! Blessings NC |

you said; "we have free will" "We are all sinners by birth" "In his sovereign will he has determined that anyone who repents and believes in Christ will be saved. 266 | Is the Potter free to do as He pleases? | Eph 2:3 | New Creature | 99231
John Where do you find your support that the group labeled "objects of wrath" has within it a sub group. Throughout Scripture there is always a division of two groups. The Saved and Lost The Elect and non-elect Those in the light and those yet in darkness The children of God and children of the devil Believers and unbelievers The above distinctions can easily be proven from Scripture. The sub-group within a group you mention, cannot in my opinion be founded upon Scripture. It's one thing to say there is a sub group. But before it can be accepted, it must find support throughout Scripture. Blessing to you New Creature |

267 | Is the Potter free to do as He pleases? | Eph 2:3 | New Creature | 99213
John Just as an additional note your interpretation makes a distinction between three classes of people 1. "objects of wrath" (prepared for destruction) 2. "objects of mercy" (prepared for glory) 3. "objects of wrath" (which are not prepared for destruction) I find clear indication in Scripture for class 1 and 2 but not 3 I see the elect and the non-elect, the saved and the lost, those in the light and those who remain in darkness. Those whose Father is God, and those whose father is the devil. In each each instance there are two classes described. I can't find an in-between third class of people mentioned. So I doubt the possibility of the distinction you seem to mention. Blessings to you New Creature |

268 | Turning to sin after salvation | Eph 2:8 | New Creature | 98935
BradK Thank you for your reply It just appeared to me that your advice in this instance promoted a life-style of sin. And I personally believe that being a Christian is not merely a label but a life-style. The person who is a born-again Christian will sense the Holy Spirit's conviction for sin. This conviction in the believer's life should bring remorse, and the felt need to confess that sin to God, and ask Him for the power and strength to turn away from any known sin, so that fellowship can be restored. The Christian who persists in what he knows is sin, is not walking in the light and is out of fellowship with Christ Jesus, and is not being cleansed by the blood by which fellowship can be restored. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If a person thinks he can remain in a chosen life-style of sin and still be in fellowship with Christ, then that person deceives himself and gives evidence that he is not a Christian. The church is to tolerate everything but sin in the life of those who profess to have a saving relationship with the Savior And we are to rebuke those who sin 1 Tim. 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. Now if I misunderstood your advice or motive, I apologize. But once again your advice appeared to give license to sin. Another "Eternal Security" teacher that your probably familar with also gives the same license to sin. "When you are born again by the grace of Almighty God,...It doesn't make any difference how wicked and how vile you act." (Charles Stanley) (Eternal Security You Can Be Sure) (Part 2, Tape #4, RH190 "You can sin like the devil down here and... you won't lose your salvation." (Charles Stanley) in his audio tape #3, MH190 Now I hope you don't also agree with these unBibical statements of Stanley's which also promote license to sin as well. Grace to you New Creature |

269 | Turning to sin after salvation | Eph 2:8 | New Creature | 98872
BradK This advice ignores Scripture which clearly says; Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, not idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor theives, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kindom of God. (1 Cor. 6:9-10) Many times I see where those that believe in the "Eternal Security" theory turn God's grace into a license to sin. Grace does not give us license to sin, and still retain belief that we are heaven bound. Rom. 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Jude verse 4 warns about those who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality This sounds like the same advice that I hear being spewed from liberal main-line denominations like the United Methodist's and others. John The point still remains that those who once were (past tense)"objects of wrath" are no longer (present tense) considered as being "objects of wrath" My question wasn't about the identity of who these individuals were, but rather that the individuals mentioned, no matter who you view them as being, were not in a fixed or unmovable state of being "objects of wrath" "were (past tense) by nature the children of wrath, even as (just like) others." Eph. 2:3 But since God is rich in mercy Eph. 2:4 these mentioned in Eph 2:3 can no longer be labled as "objects of wrath" although in the past they were labeled as such, just like all others. John Moran I see eye to eye with you on the fact that I also believe God's mercy extends to all, not just some. Today was the first time I noticed that Eph. 2:3 speaks about those who were at some time in the past labeled as "objects of wrath" and how they no longer can rightly be labeled as such. The interesting point that stood out was that they were in the past "objects of wrath" This proved to me as I earlier stated that being an "object of wrath" was not a fixed permament condition. I realize that this topic reopens the whole C and A debate. God's grace to you NC |

John; I appreciate your response. After reading it, the following statement you made stuck out. "it is important to remember that those who were not chosen by God to receive mercy have no right to protest" I personally believe God has mercy on all. The reason I state that is because of the following Scripture Rom. 11:30 For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: Rom. 11:31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. Rom. 11:32 For God hath concluded them all (Jew and Gentiles) in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. Could you please explain this? Grace be unto you New Creature |

Amen Hank below is a comment I came across. I thought you might be interested in this. Specific Bible Knowledge Declining Ninety-two percent of Americans own a Bible. Two-thirds of Americans say that the Bible holds the answers to the basic questions of life. However, as pollster George Gallup points out, apparently "We revere the Bible, but we don't read it." That is, while general esteem of the Bible is high among Americans, knowledge of its basic content as well as the specific use of the Bible are on the decline: Less than half of Americans can name the first book of the Bible. Two-thirds do not know who delivered "The Sermon on the Mount." One-fourth do not know what event is celebrated on Easter. Twelve percent of Christians thought Noah's wife was Joan of Arc. Eighty percent wrongly thought that the phrase, "God helps those who help themselves" was found in the Bible. (It is actually from Benjamin Franklin's writings.) Over the past two decades, those who read the Bible, at least occasionally, has dropped from seventy-three percent to fifty-nine percent. Only fifteen percent of Americans participate in Bible studies. Two-thirds of Americans say that they are just plain "too busy" to read the Bible. This growing Biblical illiteracy causes pastors too much time explaining common Bible stories to parishioners rather than teaching what those stories mean for daily living. Pastor Andy Dzurovcik of Faith Lutheran Church in Clark, New Jersey, is on target when he declares, "The Bible is the bestselling, least read, and least understood book." “Mother, I found this old dusty thing high on the shelf.” “Why that’s a Bible, Tommy dear; Be careful that’s God’s book!” “God’s book!” the child exclaimed; “Then mother, before we lose it. We’d better give it back to God, for you know we never use it.” Blessings New Creature |

277 | Reconciling 1 Tim 2:4 with Rom 8:29 | 1 Tim 2:4 | New Creature | 96625
1 Tim 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. Branes notes on this verse Who will have all men to be saved. That is, it is in accordance with his nature, his feelings, his desires. The word will cannot be taken here in the absolute sense, denoting a decree like that by which he willed the creation of the world, for then it would certainly be done. But the word is often used to denote a desire, wish, or what is in accordance with the nature of any one. Thus it may be said of God that he "wills" that his creatures may be happy--because it is in accordance with his nature, and because he has made abundant provision for their happiness--though it is not true that he wills it in the sense that he exerts his absolute power to make them happy. God wills that sickness should be relieved, and sorrow mitigated, and that the oppressed should go free, because it is agreeable to his nature; though it is not true that he wills it in the sense that he exerts his absolute power to produce it. A parent wills the welfare of his child. It is in accordance with his nature, his feelings, his desires; and he makes every needful arrangement for it. If the child is not virtuous and happy, it is his own fault. So God wills that all men should be saved. It would be in accordance with his benevolent nature. He has made ample provision for it. He uses all proper means to secure their salvation. He uses no positive means to prevent it, and if they are not saved it will be their own fault. For places in the New Testament where the word here translated "will" (\yelw\) means to desire or wish, Luke 8:20; 23:8; John 16:19; Galatians 4:20; Mark 7:24; 1 Corinthians 7:7; 11:3; 14:5; Matthew 15:28. This passage cannot mean, as many have supposed, that God wills that all kinds of men should be saved, or that some sinners of every rank and class may be saved, because (1.) the natural and obvious interpretation of the language is opposed to such a sense. The language expresses the desire that "all men" should be saved, and we should not depart from the obvious sense of a passage unless necessity requires it. (2.) Prayer and thanksgiving 1 Timothy 2:1 are directed to be offered, not for some of all ranks and conditions, but for all mankind. No exception is made, and no direction is given that we should exclude any of the race from the expressions of our sympathy, and from an interest in our supplications. The reason given here for that prayer is, that God desires that all men should be saved. But how could this be a reason for praying for all, if it means that God desired only the salvation of some of all ranks? (3.) In 1 Timothy 2:5,6, the apostle gives reasons showing that God wished the salvation of all men, and those reasons are such as to prove that the language here is to be taken in the most unlimited sense. Those reasons are, (a) that there is one God over all, and one Mediator between God and men--showing that God is the Father of all, and has the same interest in all; and (b) that Christ gave himself a ransom for all--showing that God desired their salvation. This verse proves (1.) that salvation is provided for all --for if God wished all men to be saved, he would undoubtedly make provision for their salvation; and if he had not made such provision, it could not be said that he desired their salvation, since no one can doubt that he has power to provide for the salvation of all; (2.) that salvation should be offered to all men--for if God desires it, it is right for his ministers to announce that desire, and if he desires it, it is not proper for them to announce anything contrary to this; (3.) that men are to blame if they are not saved. If God did not wish their salvation, and if he had made no provision for it, they could not be to blame if they rejected the gospel. If God wishes it, and has made provision for it, and they are not saved, the sin must be their own--and it is a great sin, for there is no greater crime which a man can commit than to destroy his own soul, and to make himself the eternal enemy of his Maker. And to come unto the knowledge of the truth. The truth which God has revealed: the "truth as it is in Jesus." See Barnes "Ephesians 4:21". (b) "Who will have" John 3:15,16; 2 Peter 3:9 God Bless you NC |

Emmaus We have to be careful and discerning about the content in any extra-Biblical writtings, no matter how old they maybe. Whatever source the wriitings may be, we need to compare them with our final authority for truth which is Scripture. Even before our Bibles were completed, we were warned that false teachers and prophets already existed. 2 Pet. 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Brother Tim; Excellent answer It is true as you stated that false teachings and doctrines had already arisen even in the early church, and that fact is easily proven from Scripture. 2 Pet. 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you 1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
