KJ; What would I possibly need to forgive my father about? My own physical father was never mentioned in any of my posts. Once again the story was merely an illustration used to convey a point. The people in the story were figurative and not actual. P.S. Great verse Blessings New Creature |

CDBJ It may be possible that the Lord has burdened your heart in such a manner, in order that you might be the first person to have this missed function again become part of your worship service. The church I attend, each Sunday sets aside a section of the worship service, where they pass a microphone around for a time for praise, testimony, answers to previous prayers and new prayer requests. I think this should be part of the worship service every week, as it is a the church I attend. Blessings New Creature |

Searcher I agree And we need to remember who is the audience for all our worship. All our personal and corperate worship has to be directed to Him alone to Whom all praise, honor, worship and glory is due. We worship Him because He is worthy. Blessings New creature |

Amen to that We need to remember that it is Jesus who actually does the saving. However He desires that we share His work. He desires to use us as His ambassbors, who are sent as representatives of His kingdom to reach the lost. Pray that the Lord would prepare hearts, both those who are lost, and ours as well, as each day we go into the world of lost souls, being alert and prepared to give an answer for the reason of the hope within us. And may we do so in His power and boldness and strength, and may it all be done in love. Blessings New Creature |

Dear Ken John; After reading your posts, and discovering your dislike for the NIV Bible and possibly other modern translations, I was reminded of the following short story about Bible Versions that I thought I would pass along to you. WHICH BIBLE VERSION "The story is told of four ministers discussing the pros and cons of various Bible translations and paraphrases. Eventually each stated which version, in his opinion, is the best. The first minister said he used the King James because the Old English style is beautiful and produces the most reverent picture of the Holy Scriptures. The second said he preferred the New American Standard Bible because he felt it comes nearer to the original Greek and Hebrew texts. The third minister said his favorite was the paraphrased Living Bible because his congregation was young, and it related to them in a practical way. All three men waited while the fourth minister sat silently. Finally he said, "I guess when it comes to translations and paraphrased editions of the Bible, I like my Dad's translation best. He put the Word of God into practice every day. It was the most convincing translation I've ever seen." P.S. I agree with Tim Moran that the KJV is a very good translation, and in fact was the only one I preferred to use in the early stages of my faith in Christ Jesus. These days I prefer to use the NASB, but I also enjoy the NIV and the NKJV as well. Also, when I first came to faith in Christ it was through reading the Living Bible (which is just a paraphrase) But nevertheless, God used that simplistic paraphrased translation to bring to Himself. So I must ask; can God bridge the translation barrier, and draw lost souls to Himself? Once I became saved, I began using only the KJV. I still use it to this day, but not exclusively. As Tim Moran stated to you. The authors of the KJV of long ago, did not have all the manuscripts as well as archeological findings as evidence, that are now have become available to us. So please take that into consideration if you would. Blessings New Creature |

CDBJ; My reply is a personal testimony concerning the following comment of yours; "It’s not the job of the pastor to reach the lost, it the job of the saints." While in church yesterday, the message we received in the service, was given by a missionary from Gabon, Africa. She emphazied the important fact which you mention here, that it is not just the Pastor's job to do the evangelizing, the missionary, said it's the job of each one of us to accomplish. I keep being reminded from the Lord, that I am to pray that the Lord will prepare hearts, that are ready to hear the saving message of the gospel. I then pray that the Lord would prepare me also, as I go out into the world, into my workplace, into the market place, in my neighborhood, or where ever the Lord wants to send me. I pray that I would be a clean vessel, that God can use to witness to a world that is lost and on its way to hell. Then I pray for the Lord's guidance and wisdom, and surrender my whole being, to Him. I pray and ask God to use my feet to take me to those individuals whose hearts He has made ready, and that He would use my mouth to speak His words, not my words. In my experience, when I have begun my day in prayer like I mentioned, then the Lord has giving me success in witnessing to others, and that has been in answer to prayer. It truly is God's desire to use each one of us for His glory, but it gives us each encouragement and boldness to witness further when we see success in our seed planting and witnessing. Praise be to God, to Him alone belongs the praise honor and glory. Blessings New Creature |

EdB Your reply to CDBJ was interesting and my mind raced off to remember the 2 following quotes by A.W. Tozer "Too many people consider Jesus Christ a convenience. We make Him a lifeboat to get us to shore, a guide to find us when were lost. We reduce Him simply to a Big Friend to help us when we are in trouble. That is not bibical Christianity." "Any appeal to the public in the name of Christ that rises no higher that an invitation to tranquillity must be recognized as mere humanism with a few words of Jesus thrown in to make it appear Christian. CDBJ I totally agree with your reply. Especially about hungering and thirsting after God. You made the following comment about that: "Now days, people don’t appear to have the hunger that I did when I was a new born in Christ; the desires today are closer to that of one who is stillborn and this puzzles me greatly." That reminds me of a part of a prayer I found by A. W. Tozer; "Oh God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee. I long to be filled with longing, I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Then give me the grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long. In Jesus name, Amen" It also brings to mind the words of Psalm 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; And lastly in the 42 Psalm "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?" This is deep calling unto deep, and the longing heart will understand it." Blessings New Creature |

CDBJ Good reply Below is an interesting bit of satire I found. Church-Lite Does it seem to you that churches these days just expect too much from their people? Well before you remember that Jesus told us to pick up our cross and follow Him daily, read the following announcement, then repent. Has the heaviness of you old fashioned church got you weighted down? Try us. We are the New and Improved Lite Church of the Valley. Studies have shown we have 24 per-cent fewer commitments than other churches. We guarantee to trim off guilt, because we are Low-Cal... low Calvin, that is. We are the home of the 7.5 per-cent tithe. We promise 35 minute worship services, with 7 minute sermons. Next Sunday's exciting text is the story of the Feeding of the 500. We have only 6 Commandments-- Your choice!! We use just 3 gospels in our contemporary New Testament. Good Sound Bites for Modern Human Beings. We take the offering every other week, all major credit cards accepted, of course. We are looking forward with great anticipation to our 800 year Millennium. Yes, the New and Improved Lite Church of the Valley could be just what you are looking for. We are everything you want in a church... and less!! Found on the Random Church Humor New Creature |
