Greetings PVSpud! Thank you for your words of encouragement and your prayers! I am going to limit the topics that I involve myself in on this Forum, and work towards being more selective. My wife says that I should not engage in this topic, and I'm going to listen to her good advice.. :) But I pray that the Lord continues to guide you in your spiritual walk with Him! 562 | Who wrote the book of Judges? | OT general | Makarios | 9974
As for the question of authorship for Samuel.. The New Scofield Bible states, "Author: Unknown Theme: Defeat and Deliverance Date of writing: 11th Cent. B.C." The Nelson NKJV Study Bible states, "Author and Date: The author of this collection of historical writings about the judges who ruled Israel during a span of several centuries is never identified. Neither are there any clues elsewhere in Scripture. Late Jewish tradition ascribed its authorship to Samuel. This is certainly possible, but there is no way of knowing for sure. Certainly the book was written after the last events recorded in it (about 1050 B.C.). The reference in 18:30 to “the day of the captivity of the land” refers most likely to the Babylonian exile (sixth century B.C.). This suggests that a later version of the book may have been compiled during the Exile or afterward. However, the reference to Jebusites living in Jerusalem “to this day” (1:21) suggests that a portion of the book may have been written prior to David’s capture of Jerusalem around 1000 B.C. It would seem likely that Jebusites who survived the battle would have left voluntarily or been expelled. Yet a few scriptural references suggest that some Jebusites remained in Jerusalem after David’s conquest (2 Sam. 24:16), so this is not a conclusive argument. If one believes that Judges was written sometime late in the eleventh century B.C., then it becomes more credible to suggest that Samuel wrote most or all the book. Yet, like the question of authorship, the approximate date of the composition of Judges remains cloaked in uncertainty." Nolan |

Brian In no wise have I ever not offered my advice without dignity or wisdom. You have taken it upon yourself to press your own unbiblical view on this Forum and you are resisting correction by me, your fellow Forum member. I give advice to all and I give it to you right now: Do not deceive the members of this Forum. You have much to offer the members of this Forum, but offer it based upon the Bible. Nolan |

566 | God protected Cain from whom | OT general | Makarios | 14173
Perhaps you should heed this Brian: "Why, oh why, are you people so FASCINATED with speculation about what the Bible does NOT say? Shouldn't you be watching "Unsolved Mysteries" or one of those TV shows? Does anyone here have any respect for the silence of the Bible? When you speculate on what the Bible does not say, who is edified, who is encouraged, who is comforted? You people need to study and learn what the Bible DOES say. Then you might have less questions about and interest in what it doesn't say. I assure you, the Bible is complete. God has not, as some of you have suggested, left anything out that should be there or made any mistakes in the Bible. To go on and on and on about what the Bible does not say is to cast doubt upon the inspiration and sufficiency of Scripture. Scripture surely is not sufficient if you people have to make up 1,001 questions about what it does not include. You may get some kind of kick out of questioning the reliability or sufficiency of Scripture, but all you do is add doubt and confusion to seekers and babes in Christ. And by a strange twist of logic some of you declare that this is somehow helpful in furthering the gospel and the kingdom of God. That somehow speculating on trivial matters on which the Bible is silent is going to strengthen someone's faith in God or in the essentials of the Christian faith. Read your Bible with an open mind and heart. Be willing to obey what you find there. Accept it for what it actually is, the very words of God Himself. "Therefore, the person who rejects [the Bible] does not reject man, but God, who also gives you His Holy Spirit." One more time: according to the Lockman Foundation, this is neither a discussion group, a survey, or an opinion poll. Take a hint from the Apostle Paul and do not go beyond what is written. If you find the Bible insufficient to satisfy all your curiosity, maybe you ought to discard it and turn to the Apochrypha, the Book of Mormon, the Watchtower Society, the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, or some of the more colorful and imaginative postings here at the forum. All of the above are equally spurious, fanciful and uninspired. Here at the Forum you will find all the bricks without straw, clouds without water, and idle speculation without Scripture that you'll ever need. Selah. (Pause and think about that.)" 573 | Did Adam and Eve have belly buttons? | OT general | Makarios | 24869
Greetings Kalos! I've got to say, this question about belly buttons has to take the cake, "hands down", as one of the luniest threads of the week, right up there with "Is God right handed?" and "Does God have any teeth?".. :-) It seems that we have a lot of "competition" for this "award".. Grace to you, Nolan |

574 | Why did the donkey speak in Num. 22:28 | OT general | Makarios | 24882
Ed, Good question... The only connection that I can find is that Balaam used omens (Numbers 22:7; 24:1) and soothsaying (Josh. 13:22), and was a lover of money (vv. 17,22; 2 Peter 2:15). The Ryrie NASB Expanded Edition Study Bible offers this explanation, "22:28 Balaam did not seem surprised when God caused the donkey to speak (Gen. 3:1). Perhaps he had had previous experiences with animals speaking through demonic power." (pg. 249) - Nolan |

575 | "And Cain knew his wife..." | OT general | Makarios | 25972
Greetings Dave, I do not believe that this verse should be interpreted as saying that Eve gave birth to other children prior to Cain. I interpret this verse as saying (God speaking), "The pain that I had originally intended for women to experience during child bearing will increase.." I do not believe that one can immediately assume that Eve had any prior children by reading this verse. I believe that the Lord had in mind His punishment set for Eve, if she should indeed sin, and this would be the increase of her birth pains. Cain was the first child born to Adam and Eve. Blessings to you, Nolan |

Excellent answer Elizabeth! This question was asked long before I ever came to the Forum, but here a few more prophesies that explain the suffering of Christ... Zech. 13:6,7; Daniel 9:25-26; Genesis 3:15; and many others including Isaiah, which is my favorite.. :-) Blessings to you, Nolan |

579 | Two witnesses of Revelation - prophets? | OT general | Makarios | 31875
Greetings, Listener! Some people believe that Elijah himself will be one of the two witnesses, based on Malachi 3:1; 4:5, Matthew 17:11, his appearance at the Transfiguration of our Lord, and because of the fact that he went to heaven without dying. Some people believe that one of these two witnesses will be Moses, since Moses also took part in the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:3). However, some people believe that one of the witnesses will be Enoch, since Enoch was the only other person, besides Elijah, who was taken directly to heaven without dying. Regardless of who the two witnesses turn out to be, God will use them to prophecy and 'to smite' the earth with plagues (Rev. 11:6). Blessings to you, Makarios |
