Greetings Tim Sheasby! I will begin a Forum-wide study on 1 John, the entire book, very soon! In it the subject of 'antichrist' comes up (as you have previously pointed out), and I would appreciate any input there that you have to offer. I have not started the study yet for two reasons- 1) I'm feeling a little less than 100 percent healthy right now (probably the change in weather here in Indiana), 2) I haven't had a whole lot of time this week to devote to it. Greetings Colin, God desires all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4) and doesn't want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9). He certainly takes no pleasure in the death of the unsaved (Ezekiel 18:23). At the same time, God is a 'fair' Judge (Job 34:12; Genesis 18:25), and the heathen (unbelievers) are really lost (Acts 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:5). John 12:32 says that Christ's work on the cross makes possible the salvation of both Jews and Gentiles. Notice, however, that the Lord-in the same passage- warned of judgment of those who reject Christ (verse 48). Philippians 2:10,11 assures us that someday all people will acknowledge Jesus as Lord, but not necessarily as Savior. The divine desire for all to be saved (1 Tim. 2:4) will only be realized in those who exercise faith in Christ (Acts 16:31). Scripture consistently categorizes people into one of two classes (saved/unsaved or believers/unbelievers), and states that the final destiny of every person is one of two realities (heaven/hell) [Matthew 13:49; 25:32,34,46]. As far as God loving 'everyone,' even unbelievers, I would say that God's love extends to all men, since Scripture teaches that God's salvation has 'appeared' to all men, not merely the elect (Titus 2:11; 1 Tim. 2:6; 4:10; Heb. 2:9; 1 John 2:2; John 3:16). However, God's love will only be realized, or made effectual, in those who believe in Him (John 6:37,44; 17:2,6,9; Rom. 9:10-16; Acts 13:48). Luke 19:10 "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost." I pray that this post will speak to all who doubt that God loves them, so that they will accept His Son as Lord and Savior. Greetings my friend, As a followup, the same grace that the Lord has extended to those of us who believe is not extended to Satan or any of his co-conspirators (Jude 6; 2 Peter 2:4). They are irredeemably lost, condemned to a final and everlasting fate (Revelation 20:10), of which there is no hope of redemption. Satan's sin of pride can be compared, in a much lesser sense, to the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which our Lord will not forgive (Matt. 12:31; Mark 3:29; Luke 12:10; 1 John 5:16,17; Num. 14:26-45; 1 Sam. 3:14). Greetings again my friend, Hank had some excellent comments on this topic.. Ephesians 3:18-19 "..And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God." [NIV] Ephesians 3:18-19 makes it altogether clear that God 'could' very well still love Satan in a sense that Satan still remains a part of His creation, but went so terribly and irredeemably astray. However, Satan, in all his capacity, cannot reciprocate God's love, since he has been forever cursed to destruction. A child would be able to show love to a parent in return for the love that the parent has shown for the child. Satan does not have the capacity nor chooses to reciprocate God's love, as a child of God would. "3:14-19 HOLY SPIRIT, Revelation- The Spirit gives revelation so we may have power to understand and act. Paul prayed that the Ephesians would be given power, not power to act but power to understand the extent of God's love. Only the Spirit could reveal this. That limitless and gracious love is revealed ultimately in Jesus and His sacrifice. The Spirit always works to help the church remember Jesus and His gospel (see note on Jn. 14:26), appreciate the love of God demonstrated at the cross (Rom. 5:8), and understand the purpose of God being carried out there. See note on Eph. 3:2-6. When we begin to comprehend this love, the Spirit give us power to act in this love." (1) Satan does not have access to the Holy Spirit and has been corrupted by his own sin.
