3482 | the angels that sinned | 2 Pet 2:4 | Makarios | 96764
Darcy, I strongly disagree that Genesis 6:4 is speaking of angels as the 'sons of God.' And I have been over this issue many, many times on this Forum (all of my responses are in the Archives.) Makarios |

3483 | the angels that sinned | 2 Pet 2:4 | Makarios | 96785
Greetings Darcy, 1) I agree, Job 1:6 is speaking about angels when it mentions "sons of God." However, Job and Genesis were written by two different human authors, and it is not guaranteed that both of these human authors were using "sons of God" in the same sense given the context of each place in Scripture. 2) In Luke 3:38, Adam is not mentioned as a "son of God" in the same sense that Genesis 6:4 and Job 1:6 are speaking of. In fact, the only reason that Luke 3:38 mentions "..Adam, the son of God" is in reference to geneaology ONLY. Other scripture passages such as 1 Cor. 15:22,45 describe Adam as a man who sinned, and therefore, could not be a "son of God" in any more sense than we are, except for geneaology purposes ONLY. As for Christians becoming "sons of God", that is a topic that has no relation to this topic. Also, you said: "Now why there are some fallen angels bound and some not. After the Flood we know that Angels kept having relations with woman (ie. Goliath and his brothers are the offspring)Those angels are now bound." There is Absolutely NO Scriptural evidence for this statement. Also, Genesis 3:15 has Absolutely NOTHING to do with angels/line of Seth being "sons of God." You also stated: "Now I think the reasons for the Angels going into the daughters of men was to defile the seed that the Messiah would come from. Satan tried this tatic but it didn't work because Noah was righteous in God's eyes. (Gen. 6:9)" There is Absolutely NO Scriptural evidence for this statement. Blessings to you, Makarios |

3488 | the angels that sinned | 2 Pet 2:4 | Makarios | 97373
Greetings The CurtMan! I'm sorry to hear about what happened this weekend, although I am thankful that noone was hurt! Doesn't everyone use an Apple Macintosh? Just kidding.. :-) Now about Angels.. One thing to keep in mind is is that Angels and Human Beings are two very different parts of God's creation. Scripture tells us that God created the angels as angels (Colossians 1:16). We see a distinction between humans and angels in a number of biblical passages. For example, Psalm 8:5 indicates that man was made lower than the angels. In Hebrews 12:22-23 the "myriads of angels" are clearly distinguished from the "spirits of righteous men made perfect". 1 Cor. 6:3 tells us that there is a time coming when believers (in the afterlife) will judge angels (Jude 6; 2 Pet. 2:4,9). Moreover, 1 Cor. 13:1 draws a distinction between the languages of humans and angels. Clearly, human beings and angels are portrayed as different classes of beings in the Bible. How else are angels different from humans? Angels do not have fleshly bodies as we do, but are immortal (Luke 20:36). Therefore, angels do not have this body of death (Rom. 7:5,24; 8:13) that we have. Angels do not have an 'inherited depraved nature' as we do, because of our flesh (Romans 3:9-19; Ephesians 2:1-3). Angels do not have need of a Reedemer (Rom. 8:3) as we do, since they were created as His angels (Psalm 91:11). In Scripture, angels are most often described in relation to God as His angels. It is of great significance that the two angelic names mentioned in the Bible- Michael and Gabriel- emphasize this relationship (as His angels) with God with the 'el' at the end of their names, which in Hebrew, means "God." Psalm 103:20 makes reference to God's angels "who do his bidding, who obey his word." Therefore, if angels do not have a fleshly body as we do, and cannot die as we can, then they also are not tempted with "sins of the flesh" as we are. What are sins of the flesh? Galatians 5:19-21 states that they are: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these.. Therefore, angels cannot commit these types of sins, since they do not have a "body of flesh" that is tempting them to do so, as we do. But the sin that Satan and his co-conspirators (angels) did commit was the sin of pride, which is a "spiritual sin" in nature with God (Isaiah 14:14). Envy is related to pride, and is also a sin that could be spiritual in nature. Anger is a byproduct of both pride and envy, and it could also be a sin that is spiritual in nature. Matthew 27:18 tells us that it was because of envy that the people handed Jesus over to be crucified. Therefore, while the sins of the flesh are outside of the capacity for angels to commit, they were capable of committing a sin of pride, envy and anger towards God. But all of the angels who would rebel against God and commit sin joined Satan in his revolt (Rev. 12:4). All of the angels that are left remain loyal to Him and are His for all eternity (1 Tim. 5:21). The angels would not want to sin against Him, even if they were given another chance to do so! Therefore, they remain perfect in their stature and in the Lord's service for all eternity. They have no need of a "freedom of choice" as we do. They do not "wrestle with sin" as we do, since they do not have a "flesh" that they have to "wrestle" with. They are completely free of these fleshly sins that we find ourselves being tempted with, and they will never sin against Him. Blessings to you, Makarios |

3489 | were angels saved by works? | 2 Pet 2:4 | Makarios | 97380
Greetings John, Yes, God is at work in those who believe (Phil. 2:13). However, we were also given a sin nature (Rom. 3:9-19), and we are constantly battling it in our state of imperfection (Romans 3:23). We are in need of a Savior, a Redeemer. And that Redeemer is Christ. Our sin nature is what separates us from angels. God does not extend grace where there is no need to extend grace (Rom. 9:15). There is no need for God to extend grace to Angels who have not sinned. God does not extend grace to fallen angels who sinned against Him. However, in regards to human beings.. "But God demonstates His own love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 Angels are in no need of grace, since they have never sinned. In fact, they look at human salvation in wonder and amazement: "It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven- things into which angels long to look." 1 Peter 1:12 "In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10 Therefore, angels are not in need of grace, repentance, or salvation. And no, I do not believe that man can thwart any purpose of God's. Blessings to you, Makarios |

3490 | were angels saved by works? | 2 Pet 2:4 | Makarios | 97387
Greetings John, I am not saying that angels or humans are "elect" based on any work on their part. What I am saying is, is that God does not extend grace to angels. There is not a need for God to extend grace to angels in the same way that He extends grace to us. You see, neither angels nor humans are justified by their works, so that no one may boast. But, at the same time, Angels do not have the same problem with faith as we do! :-) Angels cannot help but be in the Lord's presence, and they worship God continually (Luke 2:13-14). We must have faith in Him: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;" According to Ezekiel 28:12-19, (v. 15) iniquity was found in the guardian cherub (v. 14). And I believe that this bit of Scripture is a reference to Satan's fall. I agree: it is hard to grasp how a being such as an Angel, who was created solely for God's service, could somehow fall from that state, and be "found with iniquity." But it happened, and Satan and his co-conspirators are part of that. Evidently, Satan had widespread influence in heaven to convince a third of all angels to revolt against Holy God, but it happened. But does that mean that angels continue to "fall"? No. God kicked Satan and his cohorts out of heaven (v. 16). Does God continue to kick angels out of heaven today? No. They are permanently His angels. All angels that could have or would have sinned did so in Satan's rebellion. Blessings to you, Makarios |

3494 | The Righteousness of Lot | 2 Pet 2:7 | Makarios | 34138
Greetings all! Here is an interesting quote concerning the righteousness of Lot from the MacArthur Study Bible, page 1955. "2:7,8 delivered righteous Lot. He was righteous, as all the saved are, by faith in the true God. Righteousness was imputed to him, by grace through faith, as it was to Abraham (Gen. 15:6; Rom. 4:3,11,22,23). There was spiritual weakness in Lot (Gen. 19:6), e.g., immorality (Gen. 19:8) and drunkenness (Gen. 19:33-35). His heart was in Sodom (Gen. 19:16), yet he did hate the sins of his culture and strongly sought ways to protect God's angels from harm. He obeyed the Lord in not looking back at Sodom (Gen. 19). In both of the illustrations where God rendered a wholesale judgment on all living people (once on the whole earth, and once in the whole region of the plain South of the Dead Sea), Peter pointed out that God's people were rescued (v.5; cf. v.9). The Greek word for "oppressed" implies that Lot was troubled deeply and tortured (the meaning of "tormented") with the immoral, outrageous behavior of the people living in and around Sodom and Gomorrah. Tragically, it is ordinary for believers today no longer to be shocked by the rampant sin in their society." 3496 | Does this verse refer to purgatory? | 2 Pet 2:9 | Makarios | 13851
Greetings Rose! Here is a little additional commentary on this verse.. "2:9 The unrighteous not only will be punished in the lake of fire but also are being punished either in this life while alive or in the intermediate place of hades between death and the lake of fire (Luke 16:19-31)." (Ryrie's Study Bible) "And to reserve the unjust—As he does the rebel angels, 2 Pet. 2:4. The case of the angels shows that God can keep wicked men, as if under bonds, reserved for their final trial at his bar. Though they seem to go at large, yet they are under his control, and are kept by him with reference to their ultimate arraignment." (Barnes' Notes on the NT) "On the other hand God holds (, “keeps under guard”) the unrighteous for the coming day of judgment (cf. 3:7), the great white throne judgment and the lake of fire (Rev. 20:11-15). Meanwhile God continues their punishment in this life (cf. Rom. 1:27b) and in hades after death (Luke 16:23). The participle (“punishing, injuring”) is another of Peter’s words that occurs only once in the New Testament." (The Bible Knowledge Commentary: NT) "to be punished--Greek, "being punished": as the fallen angels (2Pe_2:4), actually under sentence, and awaiting its final execution. Sin is already its own penalty; hell will be its full development." (Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary) --Nolan |

3497 | Who are the mockers, evolutionists? | 2 Pet 3:3 | Makarios | 27700
Greetings Pastor John! Excellent insight! Yes, 2 Peter 3:4-7 does draw out a sense that these mockers will not believe (v. 4) and maintain that unbelief (v. 5), while ignoring the creation and the flood (v. 6). This description would just "fit" that of present day evolutionists who deny both the creation and the flood. And yes! These are both major clamactic events, with the Second Coming as being THE Event. I appreciate your insight here, since you have now helped me to see these verses in an entirely new way! :-) I also believe that the Second Coming of Jesus could happen at any moment, even before I finish writing this post! Blessings to you, Nolan |

3498 | end time fire, is it real or not? | 2 Pet 3:7 | Makarios | 107873
Greetings Dan, However, at the same time, we are told by Scripture that we are indeed living in the end times (Isaiah 26:21; 66:15-16; 1 Peter 4:7-11; Hebrews 10:37; Revelation 3:11; 22:7,12,20; 1 Tim. 6:14; Titus 2:13; 1 John 2:28; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; Matthew 24:42-44; 1 Thessalonians 5:2). And Isaiah himself confirms 2 Peter 3:7.. "For behold, the LORD will come in fire, and his chariots like the whirlwind, to render his anger in fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. For by fire will the LORD enter into judgment, and by his sword, with all flesh; and those slain by the LORD shall be many." Isaiah 66:15,16 [ESV] Blessings to you, Makarios |

3499 | end time fire, is it real or not? | 2 Pet 3:7 | Makarios | 107965
Greetings Dan, Very well spoken! "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." 2 Peter 3:8-9 I fully agree! 3500 | Created for heaven or hell? | 2 Pet 3:9 | Makarios | 11305
Greetings again, proorizo, I can clearly discern that it is obvious that you do not understand this Forum's history. I actually looked through all ten of your posts, and you have not convinced me that you have taken the effort to see or understand the viewpoints that have already been well stated here, regarding the debate that you are just itching to fight! :) Yes, you have the 'same old questions', my friend, that is quite clear! :) If you are looking for a fight, then you should go elsewhere, because it would be a waste of this Forum's time to respond or engage in any of your 'preconceived' new ideas that you think that you can bring to the table on this topic that has already been well addressed by this Forum. And you cannot play the idiot and think that I do not know which topic that you and I am referring to. :) I refuse to debate or discuss this topic with you since I know well your position and where you are coming from. However, I will not 'leave you alone', my friend. I will not address this topic with you anymore until you have seen and read every single one of the posts on this Forum that deal with the fight that you are trying to pick. Believe me, I will know if you are bringing up anything 'new' or not, and your intentions are proven when you post the same question twice in a row, my friend! :) Are you a troublemaker looking for trouble? I, for one, will see to it that your 'damage' will be minimal, my friend. The last thing that this Forum needs is another debate/discussion such as the one that you are proposing, and I am making every effort here to WARN you to stop. Take my advice and show yourself to be peaceful. Nolan |
