3044 | When did Paul go to Arabia? | Gal 1:17 | Makarios | 27272
Excellent find, Steve! The MacArthur Study Bible has this quote... "Rather than immediately travel to Jerusalem to be instructed by the apostles, Paul instead went to Nabatean Arabia, a wilderness desert that stretched E of Damascus down to the Sinai peninsula. After being prepared for ministry by the Lord, he returned to minister in nearby Damascus." Your Brother in Christ, Nolan |

Wow! Its interesting to note that Moses did not mention any angels with him on the Mountain.. :) It's a reminder that there are 'angels among us' helping us to accomplish His work! Thank you, Steve, I also love going through the Bible like that! :) |

3047 | Male-female equality? | Gal 3:28 | Makarios | 7796
Thanks for a good, sound answer, Hank! Throughout Scripture, I see Jesus as having a very high view of women. In a Jewish culture where women were discouraged from studying the law, Jesus taught women right alongside men as equals (Matthew 14:21; 15:38). And when He taught, He often used women's activities to illustrate the character of the kingdom of God, such as baking bread (Luke 13:20), grinding corn (Luke 17:35), and sweeping the house to find a lost coin (Luke 15:8-10). Some Jewish Rabbis taught that a man should not speak to a woman in a public place, but Jesus not only spoke to a woman (who was a Samaritan) but also drank from her cup! (John 4:1-30) The first person He appeared to after resurrecting from the dead was Mary and not the male disciples (John 20). Clearly, Jesus had a very high view of women. Galatians 3:28 (which you cited) tells us that there is neither male nor female in Christ. 1 Peter 3:7 says men and women are fellow heirs of grace. Ephesians 5:21 speaks of mutual submission between man and wife. In John 7:53-8:11 Jesus wouldn't permit the double standard of the woman being taken in adultery and letting the man go free. In Luke 10:39 Jesus let a woman sit at His feet, which was a place reserved for the male disciples. Verses such as these show that in God's eyes men and women are spiritually equal. Nevertheless, Scripture also speaks of male leadership in the family and in the church (Ephesians 5:22; 1 Corinthians 11:3; 14:34; 1 Timothy 2:11).. Thanks for your thoughts! |

3049 | God's laws or what? | Gal 4:9 | Makarios | 28741
"Gal 4:9 - But now, after that ye have known God, God in Christ, as their covenant God and Father, through the preaching of the Gospel, and in the light of divine grace; God having caused light to shine in their dark hearts; and having given them the light of the knowledge of himself in the face of Christ, and having sent down into their hearts the Spirit of his Son, crying "Abba", Father. Or rather are known of God; for it is but little that the best of these, that have the greatest share of knowledge, know of him; and what knowledge they have, they have it first, originally, and wholly from him: that knowledge which he has of them is particular, distinct, and complete; and is to be understood, not of his omniscience in general, so all men are known by him; but of his special knowledge, joined with affection, approbation, and care: and the meaning is, that they were loved by him with an everlasting love, which had been manifested in their conversion, in the drawing of them to himself, and to his Son; that he approved of them, delighted in them, had an exact knowledge, and took special care of them: but, oh, folly and ingratitude! how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto you desire again to be in bondage? meaning the ordinances of the ceremonial law, he before calls "the elements of the world", and here "weak", because they could not give life, righteousness, peace, joy, comfort, and salvation; and, since the coming of Christ, were become impotent to all the uses they before served; and beggarly, because they lay in the observation of mean things, as meats, drinks. and which were only shadows of those good things, the riches of grace and glory, which come by Christ. The Galatians are said to turn again to these; not that they were before in the observation of them, except the Jews, but because there was some likeness between these, and the ceremonies with which they carried on the service of their idols; and by showing an inclination to them, they discovered a good will to come into a like state of bondage they were in before; than which nothing could be more stupid and ungrateful in a people that had been blessed with so much grace, and with such clear Gospel light and knowledge." 3051 | Observation of time | Gal 4:10 | Makarios | 55809
Greetings Anhill05, Here is a some commentary on this verse.. "Galatians 4:10 Verse 10. Ye observe. The object of this verse is to specify some of the things to which they had become enslaved. Days. The days here referred to are doubtless the days of the Jewish festivals. They had numerous days of such observances; and in addition to those specified in the Old Testament, the Jews had added many others, as days commemorative of the destruction and rebuilding of the temple, and of other important events in their history. It is not a fair interpretation of this to suppose that the apostle refers to the Sabbath, properly so called, for this was a part of the Decalogue, and was observed by the Saviour himself, and by the apostles also. It is a fair interpretation to apply it to all those days which are not commanded to be kept holy in the Scriptures; and hence the passage is as applicable to the observance of saints' days, and days in honour of particular events in sacred history, as to the days observed by the Galatians. There is as real servitude in the observance of the numerous festivals and fasts in the Papal communion, and in some Protestant churches, as there was in the observance of the days in the Jewish ecclesiastical calendar; and, for anything that can see, such observances are as inconsistent now, with the freedom of the gospel, as they were in the time of Paul. We should observe as seasons of holy time what it can be proved God has commanded us, and no more. And months, The festivals of the new moon, kept by the Jews, #Nu 10:10, 28:11-14. On this festival, in addition to the daily sacrifice, two bullocks, a ram, and seven sheep of a year old, were offered in sacrifice. The appearance of the new moon was announced by the sound of trumpets. See Jahn, Archae, 352. And times. Stated times; festivals returning periodically, as the passover, the feast of Pentecost, and the feast of tabernacles: See Jahn, Archae., chap. iii. 346--360. And years. The sabbatical year, or the year of jubilee. See Jahn as above." (1) Blessings to you, Makarios (1) Barnes' New Testament Notes |

3052 | The cross of Jesus:10. The world:0 | Gal 6:14 | Makarios | 42562
Greetings dnbborch! One thing is for certain, and that is that Paul had his eyes fixed on Jesus Christ! "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2) Paul might not have written the book of Hebrews, but if he did, then he is telling us here the very concentration of his heart! Blessings to you, Makarios |

3053 | What were the "marks of the Lord Jesus"? | Gal 6:17 | Makarios | 9009
The Zondervan NASB Study Bible states here, "'brand-marks of Jesus.' In ancient times the Greek word was used of the brand-marks that identified slaves or animals. Paul's suffering (stoning, Acts 14:19; beatings, Acts 16:22; 2 Cor. 11:25; illness, 2 Cor. 12:7; Gal. 4:13-14) marked him as a "bond-servant of Christ" (Gal. 1:10; cf. 2 Cor. 4:10)." The Ryrie Expanded Edition NASB Study Bible suggests, "'brand marks.' I.e., scars suffered in persecution, which spoke more eloquently than the mark of circumcision that the Judaizers sought to impose." Nelson's NKJV Study Bible adds, "Paul's physical body carried the hard evidence of his allegiance to the Lord Jesus, the marks of harsh persecution (see 2 Cor. 11:23-26) suffered for preaching the gospel. Paul's scars branded him as a slave for Christ (Rom. 1:1). Such marks far outweighed the 'mark' of circumcision so valued by the false teachers in Galatia (vv. 12-15)." |

3054 | What were the "marks of the Lord Jesus"? | Gal 6:17 | Makarios | 9086
Hello Steve! I'm not sure exactly where you are coming from here or what you "have problems" with, but I must say that this is just my own interpretation of the subject "marks of the Lord Jesus" and I am not always right and I may not have the 'best interpretation' of this verse. However, I will share with you how I see it.. I see the "marks of the Lord Jesus" being something that is physical and can be seen by others; (Gal. 6:17) a 'blemish' or scar on someone's body, which was inflicted upon them while the individual endured bodily harm or 'punishment' for speaking in Jesus' Name (Acts 4:18-20). Yes, Steve, 2 Cor. 11:23-28 speaks of the hardships that Paul went through. I believe that 2 Cor. 11:23-25 speaks volumes about the brand-marks that Paul endured for the Lord Jesus! Verse 23 states, "beaten times without number", Verse 24 states, "five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes", Verse 25 states, "three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked.." All three of these verses mention bodily punishment or affliction that occurred while Paul was acting as a servant of Christ! So I believe that 2 Corinthians 11:23 speaks volumes about the brand-marks upon Paul's body that he suffered while spreading the Gospel. 2 Cor. 11:23 even tells us a little about how Paul received these 'brand-marks'.. So I believe that 2 Cor. 11:23-28 has everything to do with the brand-marks that Paul suffered under persecution (and these marks being a 'witness' of that persecution). And we should also be willing to suffer 'brand-marks' in Jesus' Name, glorifying Jesus Christ and having joy that we have suffered because of Him, even to the point of losing our own lives for Jesus Christ! Why should we be afraid of death if we are in love with Jesus Christ? For suffering because of Jesus produces this reward: reigning with Him in heaven forever! Believe me: it is better to suffer for His Name and the Gospel than it is to sit back and not take a stand for Jesus! We must be on fire for Him, not caring about this world, but to share the Gospel and love of Jesus to everyone you come in contact with! What or whom do we have to fear? We have Jesus on our side! If we die because of persecution, then we will 'regain' our lives in Paradise, forever reigning with Him! Nolan |

3059 | explain ephesians 4:1-4 | Ephesians | Makarios | 97281
Greetings Erizapata, Ephesians 4:1-4 "Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (There is) one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;" [NASB] I interpret these 4 verses in Ephesians to explain how God wants us to live and work together in unity with each other (all believers), and to grow and mature together (in unity) in our walk with Him. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Medchill, Perhaps your question should be redirected back to the originator of the thread, since it is his church (and his situation) that he has asked assistance for. In regards to Matthew 18:15, I have already alluded to it in my post: please see where I mentioned that 'the teaching of Jesus Christ and the apostles, all believers participate in the church's mutual care and discipline as appropriate.' Blessings to you, Makarios |
