182 | Ezra and Family Values? | Ezra 10:3 | JCrichton | 118524
"While the goal in Ezra is certainly purity, this is understood in racial terms." I have to disagree with you and those who wish to see it as a racial divide! Appropriating what we seek is not new, the Pharisees and Sadducees did it to an art: they rejected the Creator for the sake of their own reasonings! In Exodus 12:48 Yahweh sets a precedence: Should a stranger residing with you wish to keep the Passover in honour of Yahweh, all the males of his household must be circumcised: he will then be allowed to keep it and will count as a citizen of the country. But no uncircumcised person may eat it. Clearly God is making a distinction between the people of Israel and the rest of the world... the problem is that God allowed the "strangers" to partake of Israel's covenant--when He did so, did God worry about their racial makeup or that they adhere to His commandments? Now, Leviticus 19:33-34 address, yet again, the "foreigners:" "if you have resident aliens in your country, you will not molest them. you will treat resident aliens as though they were native-born and love them as yourself--for you yourselves were once aliens in Egypt. I am Yahweh your God. Again, God makes a distinction about people, but not in racial lines (Leviticus 22:10-11): No lay person may eat anything holy; no guest or employee of a priest may eat anything holy. But if the priest has acquired a slave by purchase, the slave may eat it like anyone born in his household; they will sahre his food. Not only does God not concerns Himself with the people's racial background... but He even places the slave bought by the priests as part of the priest's household (which means that the slave is allowed to eat food that not even the regular Israelite is allowed to it!). Can you imagine being there as a mere Israelite, knowing that some slaves are eating that which is denied to you because you are not considered "holy" enough? Now there's the situation with the twelve tribes of Israel... did not Jacob have children by the servants of his wives? So it appears that at least a few of the tribes of Israel are made people of Israel by Yahweh not by their racial profile! "what of the Jewish women with gentile husbands?" We must remember that God did not give the Law to the sons only of Israel; though the Priesthood and other religious activities were officiated by men only, the commandments were not for the men only but for all the people of Israel! To say that the female counterpart of the male Israelite was not accountable to the Law it would be as bad as the Jews always capturing the female in the act of adultery while simultaneously always being unable to capture the male with whom the female was having sexual intercourse! "How are we to understand family, when priveleging ancestral family leads to breaking marriage bonds?" Check this out: Jesus could have come as a grown man into the world; He could have been born of a wealthy family that had closer ties to the throne of David; He could even have come to the house of the High Priest... But God chose a simple man and a simple woman to provide Christ with a family unit. When checked about divorce, Jesus tells it like this: "In the beginning it was not so... man for the woman and the woman for the man... the two would form one body!" (Paraphrased, of course!) I cannot justify the behavior of our ancestors... to me David and Solomon are two excellent examples of "...power corrupts..." These two individuals we the apex of Israel's kingdom; yet, they failed terribly! But I am not God to judge them! Rather, I see hope for me: they failed but God's Word did not! In Christ I am forgiven because God kept His promise to Abraham, Issac, Jacob, David... God Bless! Angel |

184 | Do all men belong to God? | Job 33:6 | JCrichton | 132016
"puts a big hole in the "free will" concept.." Hi, Armond! Are you saying that we were not created with the ability to freely choose to obey God or to reject Him? If so, are we living a farce hoping in vain to be Saved by Christ since only, as some groups claim, a few are actually already saved and the rest are but refuse? What then do you say of Israel, made to have a stubborn heart, mind and spirit so that the Gentiles could enter into God's Grace? Were they rejected forever, reduced to nothingness? For God to exercise His full Power does not denies Creation: image and likeness--ability to choose to Salvation of to reject HIM! God Bless! Angel |

185 | Do all men belong to God? | Job 33:6 | JCrichton | 132259
"It is clear throughout the Bible that indeed ALL men do NOT belong to GOD.. not an easy pill to shallow.. puts a big hole in the "free will" concept.." Hi, armond888! The above is a quote from your post # 131917; is this found in Scripture or have you quoted this from someone else's post? I know you responded to my previous post... but I still did not receive a clear enough answer! Perhaps I did not understand your intended meaning when you said or quoted: "puts a big hole in the "free will" concept.." ...what is the point that is made here, is it that we were not created by God with free will to obey His Command or reject it? Is it that evil men will forever be evil because they are not allowed to choose righteousness? Is it that only "good" men will enter into God's Kingdom because they cannot do evil? ...I don't mean to be difficult... I just don't follow your statement--specially in light of: "I am not saying anything I am simply listing scriptures in reference to the question.." Just follow me for a second... one Scripture passage you cite speaks on those who listened and learned from the Father (John 6:45)--this of course supports a negative response to the original query posted ("Do all men belong to God?"), while simultaneously allowing for "free will," as only those who chose/choose to listen to the Father will find Life in Jesus! So to state that not all men belong to God, it is Scripturally correct, since we are all God's creatures but not all creatures are children of God (John 1:10-12). But where I become confused is with the "free will" statement since it is by free will that some believe in Jesus while others reject Him (John 3:19). The Scripture passages you have cited on this post # 132150 are excellent examples of direct dependency on God that we have... yet, I am not questioning this fact! And while 2 Peter 1:20-21 are completely devoid of men interaction, John 6:44-45 do not in any form suggests that we are empty-will automatons unable to choose to serve or not to serve God or unable to choose a change from unrighteousness (the path that ends in death) into righteousness (Salvation in Christ Jesus). If I have misunderstood your "free will" statement/quote, please accept my apologies... but if not please clarify how you come to the conclusion that we lack "free will," the choice to serve God or to defy His Authority! God Bless! Angel |

186 | Do all men belong to God? | Job 33:6 | JCrichton | 132370
Hi, Armond888! I respect your decision not to discuss this topic... I appreciate your offering of Scripture... I must state that you have proven nothing... To be devoid of will would suggest that all must do according to God's Will regardless of desire to act in a rebellious manner (sin)--this of course is proven by Scripture not to be the case as the people of Israel, God's chosen people, rebelled time and again against Yahweh's Authority. And since Scripture states that we are all sinners (Romans 5:12) when we apply your theory to humanity, then we can only condlude that man will end up in hell; if you don't believe in hell then: man will end up in a realm devoid of the Glory of God. True, in Scripture we find all answers... but when we apply Scripture in a preconceived manner that removes the Holy Spirit's guidance we end up with contorted ideas of the Word of God! Just listen to Yahweh's own words: Would I take pleasure in the death of the wicked--declares the Lord Yahweh--and not prefer to see him renounce his wickedness and live? ...Repent, renounce all your crimes, avoid all occasions for guilt. Shake off all the crimes you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why die, House of Israel? I take no pleasure in the death of anyone--declares the Lord Yahweh--so repent and live! (Ezekiel 18:23, 30-32) And our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, couldn't have made it any clearer: And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkness to the light because their deeds were evil. And indeed, everybody who does wrong hastes the light and avoids it, to prevent his actions from being shown up; but whoever does the truth comes into the light, so that what he is doing may plainly appear as done in God.' (John 3:19-21) My friend, humanity's fate is not sealed in the blood-thirstiness of a Creator that relishes in seeing His creatures in torment and pain! Not so, my friend! Our fate is sealed by the choices we make! If we rejects God's Authority the end result will always be eternal damnation (Revelation 16:9, 11)! But if we humbly subject ourselves to our Lord's Will, the end result is Eternal Life with Him and in Him! (Romans 6:23) God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Hank! I think that most of the misunderstanding amongst Christians is due to terminologies and definitions... There's an old adage, which I suspect could be found in all languages of the world: "...drowning in a cup of water..." I think that this is so exact when it comes to Christians... we look at the same side of the same coin and still come out with a multitude of interpretations... Clearly, Jesus states that only those who the Father call to Him will come to Him... and that those who come to Him He will not reject... (John 6:37, 44; Matthew 11:27) But human nature runs its course... and not all believed in Jesus nor listened to His Word (John 1:10-13; 3:17-21; 4:48; 5:36; 6:36; 6:64; 8:24; 10:25)… Paul accentuates this phenomenon when he recalls Isaiah’s words (Romans 10:16)… Now, either God allows us to chose Life or to reject Him, by choosing death (Deuteronomy 30:19-20) or He removes our ability to govern our will and we, all humanity, have no choice but to all be saved, since that is His Will (Ezekiel 18:27-32)... otherwise,if we are not all saved, than He is a strange and disturbed god who wills some to life and wills others to death! But Jesus is not strange! Jesus is not disturbed! He made Himself into nothing so that He could rescue all those who would listen to His Holy Spirit and Believe! He took my sin to the Cross, as well as that of all humanity, but just as the example of the ten lepers (Luke 17:12-19), though the RANSOM was paid, not all chose to be made whole! Not to be disagreable, my friend, but God will not force His Will upon us, in spite of His great Love for us! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Kalos! I think that my reply to Hank's post will also satisfy your post: "Hi, Hank! I think that most of the misunderstanding amongst Christians is due to terminologies and definitions... ""puts a big hole in the "free will" concept.."" Hi, Kalos! When I read your post it seemed to be supporting the original argument presented by Armond888, which claims that we are and do what we do because God Wills it so... his views support the idea that we have no choice but to be saved or damned due to God's predisposition... The Biblical passage you presented seemingly aligns with that theory, seemingly! "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God -- children born not of natural descent, NOR OF HUMAN DECISION or a husband's will, but born of God. John 1:12-13" As you can observe from your post, quoted above, you, or the Biblical version you employed, emphasized a portion of Scripture which is very important... this of course is a given! But the point emphasized does not take away from a point not emphasized: "Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name," God's Gift is Eternal and all encompassing... but not all choose to receive the Gift! For that reason, Jesus Christ did not claim that He came as ransom for all of humanity, but for "many" (Matthew 20:28)... and at the Temple, the Holy Spirit prophesized through Simon and Anna that Jesus would be the rise and fall of many (Luke 2:34-38)... So the Gift and the Call both originate in God, but He has not removed our abilities to choose to serve Him and beget Life (John 1:10-13, 3:17-21) or to choose not to serve Him and beget death (Romans 6:23)... just as in the old days, Yahweh offered Israel a choice (Deuteronomy 30:19), Jesus offers us that same choice: we have Life and death in front of us; we must chose Life (Jesus) in order that we Live! Only if we are able to exercise our free will would we be able to chose Life or death! Regretably, many, rejecting God's Gift of Salvation (Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God), choose death! This of course is my reply to Armond... when visited by your Scriptural passage I couldn't help but surmised, form the emphasis given, that you had read my post and were not clear on my argument... In the future, when I find a post that offers Scripture without comments, I will read it and move on without responding to it... if the person offering the post requires my imput I will oblige but only at his/her direct request! 190 | The Lord is my Shepherd... | Psalm | JCrichton | 136189
Hi, James! This title is well known to Israel, as Yahweh made reference to Himself as beeing Israel's Shepherd--He also promised that He would install a sheperd over Israel that would care for the flock according to His Will (Isaiah 40:10-11; 49:10; Jeremiah 31:10; Ezekiel 34:2-31;)... Jesus too makes reference to Himself as the Shepherd of Israel, but not simply to accomodate Scripture (Matthew 26:31, Zechariah 13:7), He is claiming His title as the Shepherd of Israel (as I and the Father are One) the One who unites both flocks (Jews and Gentiles) into one fold! (John 10:16) God Bless! Angel |

191 | Does God hate some people? | Ps 5:5 | JCrichton | 124914
"Unlike us, Yahweh is able to separate sin from sinner: When we wre still helpless, at the apointed time, Christ died for the godless. You could hardly find anyone ready to die even for someone upright; though it is just possible that, for a really good person, someone might undertake to die. So it is proof of God's own love for us, that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:6-8)" Hi, Hank! If you read the complete text and follow the thought being expressed, you can see the evidence that God did not destroy humanity in order to eradicate sin nor did He forsake man due to his wicked nature! God so loved man--aside from his sin--that He provided the Sacrificial Lamb (Christ Jesus) that would cleanse man of all sin! As oppose to humanity, God does not throw out the baby along with the bath water! Further, I never suggested that Psalm 5 was presenting such argument. The question posed was the reconciliation of God hating those who work iniquity while still professing being a merciful and loving God. If God does not make a distiction from man and sin are you then suggesting that in Isaiah 1:18-20 God is simply calling His devoted servants who are keeping His Laws and Commandments? Surely God is calling the sinner to repent, to give up the fallacies of their rebellious lives, and to return to Him and abide in Him! If God were to pass judgment, as humans do, truly none would be saved for we are all sinners (Psalm 53:3). Yet, Salvation did not come to a select few; it came to all, as Christ took upon the Cross all of humanity's iniquity (past--prior to His incarnation, present--during His contemporary's existence, future--the rest of humanity's existence till the end of Times): When we wre still helpless, at the apointed time, Christ died for the godless. (Romans 5:6) Had God not made a distinction between man and his carnal state why would Jesus surrender His Life for us? Why would He come to the godless (sinners)? It is no human maxim: the Word became flesh to wrench us from the venomous grasp of sin! But it is evident that not all accepted (or will accept) God's redemptive Gift: He came to his own and his own people did not accept him. (John 1:11) And the judgement is this: though the light has come into the world people have preferred darkeness to the light because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19) The fifth angel emptied his bowl over the throne of the beast and its whole empire was plunged into darkness. People were biting their tongues for pain, but instead of repenting for what they had done, they cursed the God of heaven because of their pain and sores. (Revelation 16:10-11) In other words, since they would not consent to acknowledge God, God abandoned them to their unacceptable thoughts and indecent behaviour. and so now they are steeped in all sorts of injustice, rottenness, greed and malice; full of envy, murder, wrangling, treachery and spite, libellers, slanderers, enemies of God, rude, arrogant and boastful, enterprising in evil, rebellious to parents, without brains, honour, love or pity. They are well aware of God's ordinance: that those who behave like this deserve to die--yet they not only do it, but even applaud others who do the same. (Romans 1:28-32) Jesus did not say that He came to give His life as ransom for all; He said that He came to give His life as ransom for many (Matthew 20:28). But this has never been God's choice; this is our choice! It is not that God's Love and Mercy is limited to a few; rather, it is that we incur His wrath because we refuse to allow Him to rescue us from ourselves! God's Mercy is always abundant; God's Love is always constant... but there are so many of us who will choose to face His Wrath rather than submit in humble obedience! The Love is always there. The Mercy is always there. The Wrath will last till judgment: Shake off all the crimes you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why die, House of Israel? I take no pleasure in the death of anyone--declares the Lord Yahweh--so repent and live!' (Ezekiel 18:31-32) God refuses to fuse man to his sins. It is God's Will and Pleasure that we repent, change our wicked lives, and submit to His Love and Mercy, rather than be consumed by His Wrath, which will be revealed at the apointed time! God Bless! Angel |

192 | Does God hate some people? | Ps 5:5 | JCrichton | 124992
"paradox" Hi, Hank! You've hit center bull's eye! We (humanity) attempt to understand God with our finite abilities and we run into problems when we seek to express our thoughts... I've found that many times we (Christians) engage in squabbles that seem to go on forever... if only we wouldallow for a moment of reflection we would find that opposite parties have been engaged in a one-sided discourse... the rudimentary problem lies in the selection of our vocabulary: what is clear and comprehensible in our mind's eye, is not necessarily so to our audience! I believe that we both think that God can have immeasurable Love and Mercy while still holding sin as an absolute abomination and sinners as His Blood enemies. It is our limitations that forces us to become fixated in reasoning that God can only do one thing or another; in essence, we are divesting God of His Power and Authority. Your Mother, God Bless Her, seemed to be a humble person--she reasoned that she did not need to own all of the answers as God would provide them, in time. God Bless! Angel |

Hi, TKBjork! I did not mean to imply that you did not understand the Biblical passage... I think that I get into the old mode of writing (Intro, body, conclusion)... also the initial thought helps me focus on the task ahead--I draw from both the original post and my desire to offer assistance... Recap: Use various passages of the Bible to demonstrate God's Love and Mercy, interject with their own life's experience (cause - effect), and clarify that it is our choice (obedience or disobedience) that determines if we live in God's Love or if we ultimately are subjected to His wrath. God Bless! Angel |

195 | What does this verse mean along with v-6 | Ps 126:5 | JCrichton | 155242
Hi, matronsgt13! True that much is written in the Old Testament that is dealing directly with the Old Covenant... but much of what is written transcends into the Second Coming... the final victory for Israel is not the earthly Mount Zion but the Spiritual Zion the one that comes at the fullness of times... There's a wonderful duality in Scripture that not only applies to a moment in time when Israel was composed of only the twelve tribes... but it encorporates the Incarnation of the Word, the inclusion of the Gentiles and the restoration of Israel. God Bless! Angel |

197 | will pour out My (my) spirit?Who?What | Prov 1:23 | JCrichton | 108716
Hi, Ray! Sorry for the confusion. What I mean is that in Proverbs 1:20 as in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 the Bible is talking about the abilities or gifts of the Spirit (Holy Spirit). Some denomenations grab on to such passages to attempt to deny that there is a Divine Person known as the Holy Spirit (John 14:26, 15:26). While just a few short verses away Provebs 1:23 (as 1 Corinthians 2:6-16) the Bible clearly demonstrate that there is a Holy Power at work: the Holy Spirit! How a person, nay, a people can read the Bible and figure out that God has abilities (sometimes referred to as wisdom or knowledge) which can be defined in human terms (as Proverbs 1:20; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11), and yet not be able to distinguish between God's abilities and God's revelations about His existance as the Holy Spirit (Proverbs 1:23; Isaiah 44;3; 1 Corinthians 2:6-16; John 15:26) is way beyond my comprehension! When referring to man and our spiritual nature I would never capitalize (spiritual, spirit...) when referring to the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit or words that describe or symbolize their deity I will emphasize by capitalizing the first letter--with the exception of defining the term LORD which in the old testament was a title reserved for Yahweh (at least in some old Bible versions). Also, I tend to always capitalize Bible and Biblical to differentiate between the Scriptures and all source/material of human origin. Deity, Truth, Light, Beginning, End, Rock, Salvation, Refuge, Hope... these words (and others like them) when directly related to God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) I capitalize as per personal preference. In this forum, since I have no knowledge of how emphasize with variations of font/color, I may use Caps Lock to create a tone (i.e.: JESUS IS LORD!). Now, when quoting a Biblical passage I would simply transcribe the text without adding any personal emphasis. So if I were to cite John 14:16-17, and the passage would include the phrase "Spirit of Truth" is so depicted I would transcribe per context. When I am defining my thoughts and I find that the passage or word directly reflects the Father, Son and/or the Holy Spirit, or if I am expressing a thought with my own words (i.e.: Jesus is Love!) I would most likely capitalize the adjective/pronoun directly related to God or to the three Persons of God's Deity! I hope this served to clarify your questions! Thanks for your interest in finding common grounds and understanding! God Bless! |

198 | People want answers! | Prov 3:5 | JCrichton | 107817
Indi, hi! Though it may seem that "I have no life" I came to this Forum searching for eBibles and dictionaries (hopefully I'll find some free or low cost that can assist me in my relegious endeavor). At first sight I thought I was in the wrong place: disrespect; name calling; oral assaults, gangs... My nearly 1st and last question was preceeded by a statement that expressed such concern. I was greeted by several members (one post included what I considered a hidden assault) yet I decided to stay. If this were an "expert" forum I would not be here! From early life I have learned that feeding answers to people does not equate to true teaching/learning, with the exception of Jesus Christ who by His Divine Will connected with the spirit of those he sought out. But the most forceful He ever got was: "those who have eyes; those who have ears..." "You can't do serious Bible study by asking questions and passively accepting the answers." Why doesn't every body see this? Children do not learn from their parents' tight reign and total dictatorship; they learn from their parents' vigilance, assistance and guidance! Believing in Christ Jesus requires an individual undertaking: "those who do not hate their... cannot be my disciples." Further, the only true way that there could be a clinically synchronized forum is if the "expert" are members of a single denominational congregation or if they condescend to one another: there's a phrase for that: political correctness (a misnomer attested by our recent and not so recent history). Again I quote you: "I commend the Lockman Foundation for having the courage and the faith to make this forum available. You folks are asking for a different web site with a different purpose." God Bless! |

200 | Is civil disobedience OK when... | Prov 3:13 | JCrichton | 107467
Hi, kalos! So how would you interpret James 4:7? Jesus never called the disciples to confront the Roman occupation with any type of disobedience. Can you imagine the caos that could have been caused with a peaceful sit-in? He told Pontius Pilate that "my kingdom is not of this world." And though He warned the disciples about the treacherous times to come they misunderstood; Peter even jumped the gun and cut one of the goons (true Jesus confused them a little when He told them to buy a sword(s); Jesus reacted by healing the man that was cut and admonishing Peter (and the rest of the disciples) about the ineffective use of violence! We must be on guard. We must face any and all attacks on our Christianity--but our Lord demands love, peace (Jesus'), the Scriptures and prayer as our weapons! Civil disobedience would be against all that Christ taught. But that does not mean that we cannot work to make a better world nor that we cannot peacefully assemble to demand justice (in Christ)! God Bless! |
