222 | i want to no the truth | John 8:58 | JCrichton | 136042
Hi, Hank! Thank you for your kind words! "some people just don't get it? Or don't want to" I agree with you 100 percent! I have met quite a few... they go out of their way to learn and recite Scripture... some even call themselves "Christians..." yet they deny the Lord! Their ability to emphasize some of Jesus words (when His words seem to, at least superficially, supports their views), while completely ignoring or rejecting everything else He has said is totally bewildering! They remind me of the Pharisees and Sadducees... they recognized that Jesus claimed to be Divine, and they recongnized that His deeds were indeed of Divine origins, yet they fervently refused to humble themselves to God's revelations! (Matthew 17:5) Sadly, those who reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are being fooled by blind teachers who themselves cannot see that Jesus is God... some even attempt to compartmentalize God into levels of power or authority! These poor souls are as blind as Saul was since they persecute Christ for the sake of serving God! We must pray ardously for their release--it is evident that Satan has them under his power since they can see the Gate but they refuse to enter! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Reighn! They say that it is better late than never... here it is!: for it is not eating and drinking that make the kingdom of God, but saving justice, the peace and the joy brought by the Holy Spirit. It is the person who serves Christ in these things that will be approved by God and respected by everyone. So then, let us be always seeking the ways which lead to peace and the ways in which we can support one another. (Romans 14:17-19) God Bless! Angel |

224 | what is "catholic "church? | Matt 16:18 | JCrichton | 135898
Hi, Emmaus! Excellent post! Not being familiar with the Greek Language, I trully appreciate your annotation of the term "eklesia" as being used to define the assembly of Israel... It is wonderful to be able to trace our heritage (children of God) to Abraham with terms that are normally applied only to today's Believers! God Bless! Angel |

225 | So how do you hear God's voice? | Eccl 7:17 | JCrichton | 135897
"I feel I have been developing a close and personal relationship with Him." Hi, Joy! You've gladdened my heart! This is our (every Christian's) greatest aspiritation... that all come to know God and form that special bond with Him... Jesus welcomes us into His care as the mother hen protects her chicks under her wings!... the Holy Spirit is thisrsty for your humble obedience and desire for His Guidance and Wisdom... I pray that you stay strong in the Lord and continue your relationship with Him! Remember that to God it is not important who met Him first or who listened first... what is important is that we abide in Him! (Matthew 20:1-16) ...so don't fret about the distance you've traveled or who's ahead of you... to our Merciful and Loving Father we are all equally important no matter where we stand on the Road (Jesus): He showers us all with Love and understanding! God Bless! Angel |

226 | Joseph's iron fist | Gen 47:19 | JCrichton | 135821
Hi, JRM! Again, I understand your position... and though I do have an affinity for Joseph (being the envy of his brothers, being at the threshold of death, sold as a slave, wrongly imprisoned... and keeping his Faith through all!), my views differ because I tend to think in terms of Joseph's immediate historical era: the world was a much harsher place! People in power saw even their own offspring as a threat and they disposed of them readily! Sacrificing a person, a family or a township was nothing short of "good business sense" when conditions dictated so (not that such atrocities do not happen in our times--I hear about them happining much too often now-a-days!)... Could Joseph have engineered a different plan? Anything is possible! Would it have had benefited as much or would the Egyptian people have had to die when foreigners could outbid their purse? Would foreigners be as eager to send Pharoah a fith of their products in exchange for seeds? Would Egypt, as a nation, survive seven years of famine once people lost all hope after experiencing the first couple of years of famine? Could people exercise sound judgment during the famine years if they were provided for by the Pharoah's generosity? It is not just the unknowns that hinders our judgment, but also the fact that today's values did not exist back then... If the US (Canada) government made it voluntary, how many people do you think would send their contributions to the IRS, even those who claim to be "Christians?" How long would a nation last without the capital to bankroll an empire?... Remember reading Scripture that speak on kings purchasing their nation's freedom and autonomy or buying armies to fight for them? If Egypt's economy had lapsed, how long would they have survived the famine's devastation coupled with military assaults from the neighboring powers? God Bless! Angel |

227 | Joseph's iron fist | Gen 47:19 | JCrichton | 135815
Hi, JRM! I see your point... but I refer to Scripture (Genesis 47:19), it was the people themselves who bargained for their lives as they had nothing else to barter with... Now, on Joseph's defense: a) Pharoah maintained final authority on Joseph's program (Genesis 47:22), and b) Joseph's negotiation provided for both the Pharoah and for the people as he only taxed them one fifth of their production (Genesis 47:24)... ultimately both the Pharoah and the people benefited from the arrangement... perhaps 20 percent is a high tax on people but death is always a definite scourge on longevity! The Bible closes with the statement that that law has been in effect since then (Genesis 47:26); yet it does not expand on any additional levies or the Egyptians being able to buy back their lands or themselves from the Pharoah... One final point... since Jacob's people had not yet been enslaved by the Egyptians, there doesn't seem to be any ulterior motives for Joseph's illwill towards the people of Egypt... I still see his actions as a necessity to keep the people and the land safe from the devastation of the seven years of famine... I am not sure about the origins of the system of taxation here in America... but I understand that the original introduction was meant as a temporary measure to fund the war efforts... it must have worked well past everyone's expectations... I suspect that much of what happened with us happened with the Egyptians! ...so, did Joseph suffer a lapse of judgment and exploited the people or was his program too successful for the Pharaoh to allow it to lapse into oblivion?... I think that the latter is closer to what truly transpired during Joseph's command! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Reighn! I think that you are missing my point... I was attempting to convey to you that we all make mistakes... that threads are restricted... that we all have the same right to post questions as the next person... my suggestion to you was to not exile yourself from a part of the forum--I suggest that you summarize your questions and that you refine the content of your questions... I have no authority on this or any other forum, yet as a regular user I feel obligated to interact with all other users... offering both my support and observations... There has never been a single post where I have attempted to pull ranks or any other form of tenure on anyone... other than closing (exiting) my own thread (a thread on which I have engaged others) I have displayed no authority... I offer you my apologies if you have perceived any overt or covert authoritative remarks on my posts! Again, my intent was to urge you to continue posting your questions; not to censure or restrict you! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Hank! Thanks for your informative reply! I too have come accross people who preach anything they want and call it Scripture... sadly, they have been destined to destruction and though they read Scripture that warns them about the imminent peril (2 Peter 2:12-22; 3:3-7; 1 John 2:18-19; Jude 1:10-13)... It is our responsibility to pray for their reform as well as for those who they are leading astray... they are blind guides leading the blind into perdition! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Reighn! I do not think that the matter is settled by you opting to exile yourself from the question queue... I do agree with Hank that you (and other members) post lengthy questions that seem to be more of a statement of faith than a query... still, there are the sequence questioners who do not seem to breath deeply enough to allow another person to post... ...my friend, we all fall short of God's Holiness... we all err in one way or another... I just don't think that removing yourself from partial participation is the correct thing to do! ...as Colin suggested, I too suggest to you to rethink your appoach, summarize your queries, and allow the Holy Spirit to Shine! God Bless! Angel |

235 | Should we rethink the Trinity? | John 10:30 | JCrichton | 135671
Hi, SandyJones! The thread has been restricted... but I wanted to ask you (you can email me direct--so as not to cluster up the forum-- at: jcrichtonfs1 at yahoo.com)... so how would the Catholic Church topple over if Popes were removed from office? In the history of America's politics one president was removed... the Nation still survived; this country is but a few hundred years in the making, the Catholic Church has quite a few more hundreds of years (2000 years, give or take a few years); the structure is as the US: President (Pope) and the supporting bodies (Bishops)... so how's that logic?... two hundred years beats two thousand? God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Reighn! ...let me take a stab at this: Moderator(s): No! Abuse of Forum's Guidelines permitted: No! Can any member restrict a thread?: No! Can any member report abuse? Yes! Does Lockman remove posts? No! Does Lockman restrict posts? Yes! Does Lockman monitors or selectively deletes or restricts posts? No! Do people confuse this forum for an all out, all permisive forum? Yes! Do they miss the point of the forum? Yes! Could they post somewhere else? Yes! This forum is ours to use not to abuse! When a member finds a questionable post he/she has not only the right but also the obligation to report it! I've noticed that a thread to which you posted was restricted... you can check the various contributions that were made... perhaps one or more of the replies (which could even include the original post that started the thread) did break the forum's rules... I truly hope that this has help! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Says! If you are a Christian, then every Christian is your brother! BradK, as well as myself and others on this forum, do not see people as separate from Christ (unless their statements deem it so)... the term "friend" is a simple approach to a friendly exchange... As you no doubt have noticed, I do not use your complete screen name... it is for the same reservations pointed out by Hank on his thread... Please note that no one has called you Satan... the phonics related to your screen name does point out to such, though... perhaps a different screen name might serve a better purpose! ...In regards to your statement of millions and millions... could you cite the reference where you got your numbers?--though this is treading close to denominational argument so you might do better by dropping an email (jcrichtonfs1 at yahoo.com). God Bless! Angel |

238 | Why bother to make requests when we pray | Eccl 7:17 | JCrichton | 135519
Hi, Joy! Glad to have been of help! ...you are so correct, Scripture offers us all the answers, we must be humble and obedient enough to listen! Sadly, too many Christians have convinced themselves that testing Scripture is more beneficial... if only they would pay attention!: The LORD said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD , but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" (1 Kings 19:11-13) Elijah, a great prophet of God, recognized that God's power, though immeasurable, can be soft and tender... when we listen to His soft and tender voice, in Scripture, we can learn well beyond our age and wisdom! God Bless! Angel |

239 | Rape, Circumcission, Slaughter. | Gen 34:31 | JCrichton | 135206
Hi, JRM! I termed your interpretation liberal because Scripture speaks of Dinah being raped, yet you insist on portraying the incident as a "perhaps she was raped" type of event... I also think that you are viewing the Old Testament in light of Christian principles and revelations--true God does not change; yet, during the Old Testament times a physical punishment was exacted for transgressions against God; while in the New Testament, it is a spiritual retribution that is exacted for the transgressions of Christians. "Can you imagine being Jacob, and only having the stories of the beginning of Genesis to work with?" Can you imagine being Jacob, and having God stand right next to you as He Commands you to do one thing or another? Can you imagine the intimacy of wrestling with God? God's Plan is revealed according to His timetable... those who were taught in the Old Covenant were just as fortunate as those who are taught under the New Covenant... the difference is that we are in the end of times (spiritual economy) rather than the beginning (physical economy); we are called to believe and trust God based on what others experienced or were commanded to write down! "the picture of God becomes a little clearer." Yet, we fall short of understanding this advantage... mostly because we seek to know not what God has expressly written for us but that which we think we might find if we search for a deeper meaning than what God has offered: "The Bible often uses few words to describe an event, leaving many questions" This is part of God's design... we are meant to rely on Him not to become experts of what He mean to say or do, but to become experts on listening and obeying His Word! If we search Scripture for deeper understanding of God, that is a profitable and honorable commission... yet, if by searching for deeper meaning and understanding we manipulate Scripture or its interpretation, then we are not serving God nor ourselves... rather, we might even be derailing those who are babes in the Faith! We can take any literary work or any artistic rendering and we can analyze it to death, offering as wild interpretations as we desire... no harm, no foul! But if we employ that same technique to Scripture... at best, we are doubting God's Word; at worst, we are contradicting God's Word! For this very reason I do not indulge in the "what if" speculations... at best, they confound the reader/listener; at worst they confound even the author/writer. "The Old Testament, in particular, is full of ethically complicated situations" Again... this is all relative... in America we have hundreds of laws that dictate what, where, or when citizenry is able to do or not do... child labor laws are a fantastic example... as moral and ethical as they are today, in the not too far past children were a little more than an opportunity being exploited by both the parents and society--this is still true in certain parts of the world... Since God dealt differently with the people of the Old Covenant than He deals with the people of the New Covenant, how can anyone compare ethical or spiritual values? It would be akin to wanting to have hundreds of wives because David and Salomon did! God Bless! Angel |
