501 | Did Uzzah has given chance to repent | Num 4:15 | Emmaus | 93891
Aixen, On another side note: If Uzzah had been transporting the Ark in the proper manner according to God's instructions, instead of treating it like some cheap piece of unwieldy furniture to be loaded on a cart, he would not have put himself in the position that led to his death. Emmaus |

502 | Did Uzzah has given chance to repent | Num 4:15 | Emmaus | 94436
Aixen, We just don't know all the details on Uzzah other than the one incident recounted. It certainly is a sobering and cautionary story. Let me pose you a question. It is real life, happens often. A murderer who is killed by the police during the commission of his crime. Did that person have an oppourtunity to repent? Yes, long before he committed that last sin, but perhaps not after his last sin, because he dies in the very act of committing it. Maybe he or Uzzah repented in the last fraction of a second of life and God forgave them, but only God knows. As C.S. Lewis said od his Godlike charater Aslan: "He is not a tame Lion." Emmaus |

504 | Are we jealous for the Lord's sake? | Num 11:29 | Emmaus | 98908
Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was upon him and put it upon the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did so no more. Now two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the spirit rested upon them; they were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp. And a young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." And Joshua the son of Nun, the minister of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, "My lord Moses, forbid them." But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD's people were prophets, that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!" (Numbers 11:25-29) John said to him, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he was not following us." But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is for us. For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward. "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea. And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched. 505 | Midianites reappear? | Num 31:1 | Emmaus | 109047
Terry, Yes it does. But Joshua 13: 20-23 indicate that the Midianites who were wiped out were vassels of the Amorite knig, Shihon. Their lands were given to Rueben. We know the Midianites covered a much wider range in cluding the Sinai penninsulas because in Ex 6 we are told that Jethro, Moses father in kaw was the Midianit priest in Sinai. Moses married one of his daughters and was living with Jethro and tending his flocks when he saw the burning bush on Mt. Sinai. Emmaus |

506 | Why change order of commandments? | Deut 5:21 | Emmaus | 32279
Joe, My point about the lists used by Protestants and Catholics for Sunday school are that they are both edited for teaching and memorization purposes. And in Deuteronomy you will note that wife is before the posessions, but in Exodus 20:17 the wife is in the middle of the posessessions, so the division there is not as logical as in Deut 5:21. Do you think the Jews venerated the Ark? "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. " How about those angels on the Ark Ex 25:18-20 and the tapestry 26:1 and 1 Kings 6:23-28? How about the brass serpent Num 21:9 and those 1 Kings 7:29 and 1 King 7:36 and 2 Chronicles 4:4? Who told Solomon to add those oxen? How about photos of our deceased loved ones? Do you own any books with illustrations of God, Jesus or the saints? Is one perhaps a Bible? Did the Jews or are you violating the commandment in any of these ways? Or is veneration different from idolatry? Or was God confused giving contradictory orders? "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth." Joe, You have already accused me of idolatry directly. Why dance around by implication now? Hindus are not Christians, Catholics are. Of course you may disagree. But the Catholic creed makes it explicit that they do not worship more than one God nor worship statues. Hindus are polytheists. Emmaus |

507 | Why change order of commandments? | Deut 5:21 | Emmaus | 32350
Joe, You asked:"Please remind me of where I have accused you of idolatry directly." I was think of your post of 12-13-01 "Stop making so much of the wedding at Cana! It is such blasphemy to suggest that Mary has to "prod" Jesus -- very God of very God -- into doing what He purposed to do before the foundation of the world. A contemptible heresy is hat it is, Emmaus. A violation of the First Commandment, too, at its heart." Emmaus |

Joe, "You cannot honestly tell me that you don't know of those things going on without a word of rebuke from Rome. --Joe!" Well, If you say so I guess I cannot. I am sure you have researched to all Vatican coresponence to make sure your assertion is true. I can't say that I have had the time, nor can I read the hearts and minds of those you may have observed. But you obviously have discerned the sin in them. Now, about that beam. 510 | Why change order of commandments? | Deut 5:21 | Emmaus | 32581
Johnny, Catholic doctrine does not approve serving idols, it condems it. We do not pray for saints. We ask saints, living here on earth or in heaven to pray with us and for us. We are all in Christ. Death does not separate us in Him. I hope in honor of the literal commandment as you quoted it, you have destroyed all photographs of all your loved one. Emmaus |

prosemetic, See Matt 9:20 And a woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; The word fringe is also sometimes translated as "tassel." I know it is in the NAB. "A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak." NAB footnote: [20] Tassel: possibly "fringe." The Mosaic law prescribed that tassels be worn on the corners of one's garment as a reminder to keep the commandments (see Numbers 15:37-39; Deut 22:12 See also Matthew 14:36 "and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed." 516 | How did Hannah decide to give up Samuel? | 1 Sam 1:11 | Emmaus | 37108
Searcher, I am sure the reference was to 1 Samuel 2:20. 18: Samuel was ministering before the LORD, a boy girded with a linen ephod. 19: And his mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year, when she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. 20: Then Eli would bless Elka'nah and his wife, and say, "The LORD give you children by this woman for the loan which she lent to the LORD"; so then they would return to their home. 21: And the LORD visited Hannah and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the boy Samuel grew in the presence of the LORD. Emmaus |

518 | One Way NOT to Study the Bible | 1 Sam 17:49 | Emmaus | 147942
The whole article in context. http://gregscouch.homestead.com/files/biblestudyfrom_hell.htm Here is the section just before where Doc started his quote. "The fact is that most believers already know what they’re supposed to be doing. What they lack is the motivation and empowerment to do so. On our own, we simply aren’t able to obey God. When grace comes to us, however, we aren’t on our own anymore. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us—grace makes all the difference. “Grace gives us both the motivation and the ability to live Godward lives.” "Real growth in holiness—the kind that’s in the heart first and only secondly in our actions—such growth flows not from of a desire to be good enough, but from a thankful heart that says, “I do believe, help me overcome my unbelief” (Mark 9:24)." "I think that Ed is simply trying to say that one does not have to choose between the two." (faith or obedience) Heb. 11 is not 'either or', but 'both and'!"Tim, Precisely. And on the subject of God's glory: God's saints do not steal or diminish His glory. God is glorified in His saints. As Mary says in Luke 1:46-47 "My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior." 2 Thess 1:10 "when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed--for our testimony to you was believed. " 2 Thess 1:12 "so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. " God Himself glorifies His saints. Rom 8:17 "and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him." Rom 8:30 "and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified." Emmaus |
