4721 | Genesis Creation, a practical example? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 20062
Charis I would humbly disagree with some of you points. I do not agree that denominations were started by people that believed they had or developed or discovered a universal way to interpret the Bible but rather they had discovered "spiritual truths" that made their continued fellowship with the body they presently affiliated with impossible and thus were forced for form a new body of believers. The discovery of the "spiritual truths" in many cases were derived by Bible interpretation, experience, or visions and etc. In most cases the understanding of the Bible was then made to fit the new found “truth”. For nearly 1500 years and with the exception of a few infractions the church did in fact handle the Bible the same way. It wasn’t until the reformation and the age of enlightenment that man started to put the various spins on the Bible. Men at this point began to intellectualize the Bible and developed plausible and explainable reasonings for various texts, many times rendering them ineffective or at least reduced in importance. Nothing was accepted by face value but everything was explored for hidden meanings, contradictory meanings, and in some cases humanist explanations. I will add that much of this was caused by the previous 1500 years of treatment of the Bible and how the bible was controlled and manipulated for the gain of man. That said and with an additional caveat, that being, I believe there is no desire for consensus within the church today, let me say I believe the Bible was written to be taken one way. The fact that it is read many ways tells me factors such as, biases, prejudices, previous teachings, intellectualism, humanism, and Satan have been allowed to get into the way. I further believe basic Christianity can be realized strictly from the Bible without the need for outside material to clarify or explain any tenet of faith. The fact that so many outside references are used in attempt to clarify biblical truths tell me the truths are questionable or at least have some base in human reasoning. I have heard many people speak that we should allow the Holy Spirit to lead us. But isn’t that exactly what men have claimed to have done all through history and the result has been the thousand of denominations each calling themselves right. I know the power of the Holy Spirit (which in many cases is overran by the will of man) and I know the power of the Bible (which in many cases has been rendered powerless by the reading of man). I firmly believe we need to take the Bible literally unless by doing so we run into a un-resolvable contradictions, or the passage tells or implies it is figurative. I further think when any form of human intellectualism becomes involved whether to analyze the language structure or to explain a difficult passage we open the door for all the failings of man to fall in and taint the truth of the word. I personally believe the various denominations and different interpretations of the Bible are an affront to Christ. Jesus prayed for unity in church in John 17:20-21 and I think it is time man puts away his pride, humbles himself and seeks the unity the Christ prayed into the church. EdB |

Casiv Again you place the problem on me. You said you had a explanation for the mark of the beast. Fine! What is it? If you have something to teach, yes I want to know what it is. However if you just want to talk in shades of mysticism, get me on the right path, teach me the ways, open my eyes and etc, we aren’t going to get very far. The question is legitimate, you said you had a explanation for the mark of the beast and I asked you to reveal it. Will you or won’t you? |

Theresa Thank you for getting backing to me. I can't say I'm delighted in the way things turned out. I had prayed the situation in the church would get resolved. As you stated nothing has really changed in the old church with the exception your not there to be the salt in the church. I will not tell you you made a bad decision nor will I tell you made the right decision only you and God know that. I will keep you and your old church in prayer. Prayer still works! Be blessed and be a blessing!! |

Casiv When we started this you said you had an explanation of the mark of the beast found in The Book of Revelation. I asked you to enlighten me and tell me what it is. Since then you have asked all kinds of questions that I can see no reason for asking unless you were trying to bait be into some kind of discussion in order to deflect my question. In any case we are back where we started, with you saying you know what the mark is and me saying okay tell me. I understand the mark of Cain which ended in the flood. It differed from the mark of Rev in that the mark of Cain was a mark for preservation while the mark of Rev is the mark of those who want to honor the beast. So I see no correlation. I have chased Greek #5480 and quite frankly I know as much now as I did when I started. It is used 7 times once in Acts referring to idols and 6 times in Revelation taking about the Mark. If you know what the mark of the beast is then tell me if you don't then just say you don't and let's get on with life. |

Casiv Whether a demon spirit or Satan can or can not take human form is beyond our understanding. I know you can argue Gen 6 but you also must know there is great division on this passage. In Job 1:7 when God asked Satan where he had been Satan clearly says earth. so we know he comes here in what form Spiritual or Physical I don't know nor do I want an introduction. No I don't think Rev 12:12-13 has happened yet. Satan is still the accuser of the saints and to accuse he has to access to the Father. Where is this all going? I'm only in hurry to find out if you have an understanding of the mark which makes sense to me. |

4727 | How can we tell figurative from literal? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 19666
Sir Pent How is this? The bible must be taken literally unless context or conflicts with other text shows it has to be a Simile, Metaphor, Exaggeration, Personification, and other such figures of speech. And if we don’t realize them to be figures of speech we will take them literally which I think would cause us to error in affirmative more often than not. We must also consider a passage to be literal unless God shows a figurative meaning to the passage. Most parables are designated as such by Scripture. I’m also thinking of the Daniel 7 and the description of the four beast. Here God reveals the fact He was using them figuratively. While in Revelation 9 the locusts must be taken literally. No wonder Calvinist and Arminianist have been fighting for nearly 500 years. I think the real tie breaker must be the Holy Spirit but even that opens a whole new door. Especially when we see two Spirit Filled people come up with two different interpretations. However I think if man ever once said that can’t be and both were forced to reconcile with each other a true meaning would be reached. EdB |

Casiv First Satan and his demon hoard are spirit beings, and yes we know Satan is here. The Book of Job confirms this also Jesus told us Satan comes to kill steal and destroy. When did Satan get here? I think he always had access to earth, again Job shows he travels between earth and heaven. It isn’t until Rev 12 where we see Satan lose access to heaven, in the meantime he is still the accuser of the saints which requires him access. I’m not sure what you mean when do they get here in person. Since they are spirit beings they don’t have ‘person’. Yes I think Revelation happens in the future but that is not saying all of it does. In fact Revelation jumps forward and backward in time many times. That is why it seem so confusing to many. As far as the tribulation I hope for a pre trib rapture but I can also accept mid trib. We don't know who is saved only God, why? Because only God can look at the heart. Again I have answered all your questions, we have hiked all around the forest when are you going to tell me about this mark or at least tell me where you are getting this so I can read it for myself EdB |

Tim Language was always my nemesis. I spent 2 years in Latin 1 and only got out after I cut a deal with the teacher to never take Latin 2. I then spent a 2 years in French and promised never to take French 3, the poor women cried with joy. We weren’t required to take Hebrew and Greek was exciting to say the least. I really think I understood it better before I took the class and I didn’t know anything then. Therefore I depend on the expertise of the NASB and NLT translators to keep be out of trouble. In this case they used different manuscripts and that made for disaster. Now I wonder if I can once again wedge this Greek text book back under the corner of my copier table to keep it from wobbling. :-) Be Blessed and be a Blessing EdB |

Casiv As for 12:9 I don't think that necessarily has to be in the future. I think in this case it has already taken place. As for Rev 13:12-15 I think Satan will deceive everyone that is not saved. Where is this all going? |

Casiv I have made every effort and afforded you every opportunity to explain this to me. I think that shows a sincerity on my part. I will answer your questions but I ask you not to divert to an analysis of these without first explaining the Mark and how my observations do or do not apply. Also you said your not making this up on your own is there a book or another person that agrees with your interpretation of the these passages? Here is the answer to your questions. Ephesians 6:12 states that we are up against spiritual wickedness not flesh and blood. Before I go further with Revelation I need to know what this means to you? It means that it is not the flesh but the spirit that initiates the action. We shouldn’t come against the person but rather the spirit behind that person that is causing them to do something we see as wrong. And what does the Lords Day in Rev 1:10 also mean to you? I think John was saying it was Sunday or the first day of the week when he had the vision. However I also think the Day of Lord is something quite different in that it is represents the Judgement day. Do you believe Revelation is history or future? Revelation to me is future it has not happened, although I understand the Historic and Preterist view of Revelation. Do you believe we are to read the bible for our physical well being or spiritual well being? I read the Bible for both. If I keep my self from fornication I assure that I will never encounter a STD (sexually transmitted disease) thus my physical well being is assured. Also if I feed my spirit the Bread of Life the Word of God my spirit does prosper so I read the Bible for both. |

Casiv Clarify the mark then I will answer your questions. I don't want to get lost in a discussion on any other aspect of revelation or prophecy or bible interpretation before I understand what your saying about the mark. So please don't confuse me with more information just clarify what we have already discussed. EdB |

Tim Your right I went back and dug up some of my old Greek text book Yech!!!!! I'm still working on English :-) The stigma refered to in Strong's 5516 was a mark that slaves and other bond servants and sometimes soldiers had placed on them. Casiv is way off base!!! Sir Pent Your right after I went to bed I laid there and thought about what I had wrote, my definition left a lot to be desired. While it is all true, the problem remains of how to define such. Your right making a person out of dirt does violate common sense yet we know that is exactly what happened. Or the Sun going backwards or ... the list goes on. Let me ponder this and I will get back. Tim I have two Bible programs and both have Strong's both point to Greek 5516 and this is a word for word copy from them. And they both say the 14 and obsolete letter was a cross. See below. chi xi stigma, Greek 5516, Strong’s chi xi stigma, the twenty-second, fourteenth and an obsolete letter (Greek 4742 (stigma) as a cross) of the Greek alphabet (intermediate between the fifth and sixth), used as numbers; denoting respectively six hundred, sixty and six; six hundred sixty-six as a numeral :- six hundred threescore and six. This in no way is saying that Casiv is right in his interpretation only in what he said Strong's says. Your also right all other manuscripts seem to use 'hexakosioi hexakonta hex' or six hundred sixty six. EdB |

Casiv See here is where I have my problem with what your teaching. In Revelation 14 there is definite indications that some men will willingly take the mark. Nobody had to identify any bad teaching they just wanted to be able to buy and sell. So if the mark comes from when a saint seals a false teachers how do we explain Rev 14? Also the identity of horsemen wawsn't my conception but rather the explanation of the horsemen from the Bible itself. Yes the original language verifies that. So while your meanings are certainly interesting they actually are changing scripture. Paul said if anyone came to you with a different scripture than what is given then that person is to be considered a false teacher. This gets real scary you said if I found a false teacher and identified him then … Well I just don’t want to think about it. Brother I thought sure you were getting this teaching from another source and I was trying to identify that source. However the longer we correspond I’m getting more convinced you have developed this teaching yourself. It is interesting but since in has conflicts with scripture and actually disagrees with the meaning of the 4 horse men of Rev 6 I have to say your off track. EdB |

Casiv Thank you for getting back to me!!! Is what your saying every time I realize a Satanic deception I’m marking the beast? Every time I realize a man’s teaching is false I’m marking him with the mark? Can man take this mark willingly or does he have to be a false teacher and have me realize it before it becomes manifest? As for the horses of Revelation. I always thought the White Horse represented – conquest, a lust for conquest similar to the one seen in men like Alexander the Great. The Red Horse – Represented War, the stealing of peace from the world. The Black Horse – Represented Famine, food would be in short supply and very precious. The Pale Horse – Represented Death, life ripped from its owners. Casiv can you recommend a good book that would explain what your teaching here? EdB |
