Casiv Then your saying it isn't a real physical mark, but rather an idea or ideology that is being talked about here? Is that right? Then what about the verse that says they wohn't be able to buy or sell without the mark? How do you check for a mark if it is just an ideology or belief system? I think I need more details. EdB |

Tim I wonder have you seen this new comic book character from Japan. I don't know what it is called but they have almost human like characters in it, and at times they nude and engage in sex. To me it pornography and I think you would agree. However by your reasoning since it isnn't real people and your kids would know it is make believe would you allow them to view it. I think not. Yet this is the same thing God told us to stay away from witchcraft, notice He didn't say it was groundless, God stay stay away from it. |

Norrie To some Shakespear is just as goofy, yet many see much more in it and consider it great writting. I'm not comparing Harry Potter to Shakespear but I'm saying writting and writing styoles mean different things to diferent people. EdB |

Norrie Here I go quoting a woman I only listened to for about 10 minutes. She claimed what you describe as silliness was in fact a mask that children see through. The only real knowledge I have of the books are this 10 minutes and the previews of he movie on TV. If the book is anything like the previews I wouldn’t read them myself. I have had to deal with a kid up to his ears in this. He opened the door harmlessly enough and end up with a talking statue made of concrete that he could only get to shut up by feeding blood. His arms, legs and most reachable parts of his body looked like they went through a war. Whether it was real or not, it was real to him and after I got involved it became very real to me. No thanks I can entertain myself other ways. |

Tim I really wish you had heard this woman speak, now I wish I had listened more. She was clear and articulate and was able to back up everything she said with fact. The woman that wrote Harry Potter had apparently admitted this is based on real witchcraft and her purpose was to give children a "new world view" of spiritually. That alone worries me. The author on TV then explained how the curses and incantations are authentic with some words changed. She raised the biggest question to my mind. What happens if a child goes to bed a night angry and begins to speak a curse he learned from Harry Potter on the person. In effect he could be construed to praying and asking for the power of darkness to intervene. They had a child behavior specialist on the program also and he agreed that there was real danger in this. He explained that many cases of children that are hard to handle the beginning of the problems can be traced back to such behavior. I too like Sci fi but this is far more than your run of the mill entertainment. This book, by the authors own admission, was written with a purpose and that I don’t believe is okay. I think this is far more dangerous than we would give it credit and this involves something God warned us to stay clear of. EdB |

4692 | Magicians, frogs, blood? | Ex 8:7 | EdB | 21292
Tim I have many Christian brothers and sisters from the "Islands" and I have a neighbor that was born and raised in Africa to missionary parents (18 plus years). All tell of demonic activity that is real and, quite frankly if I did not know Jesus, would be terrifying. All of this is spur of moment without prop or preparation. This is one reason that once you share Jesus with these people groups they willingly accept the light since they are very familiar with the dark. EdB |

4693 | Magicians, frogs, blood? | Ex 8:7 | EdB | 21283
Tim I wonder if it wasn't demonic forces behind their magic, even the best magicians need preparation time. These all seem to be done spur of the moment to duplicate what Moses did. I go back to Moses staff turning to a snake. We see the court magicians doing the same thing, which to me is mighty impressive for spur of the moment, but nonetheless God's snake devours theirs, showing God was still in control. EdB |

4695 | Muselim Religious | Eph 2:8 | EdB | 21257
Schwartzkm First we have to be careful not to mix Black Muslims with true Islam. The Black Muslim was an invention of Timothy Drew a used car salesman from Carolina. It had some base in Islam but not a lot. After Drew future leaders tried to gain some legitimacy with Islam but I think Farrakhan's recent proclamation that he was the Messiah opened a new gulf. Black Muslims are dwindling here in the states, however true Islamic Muslims are growing at alarming pace. In your note you expressed a concern that if Islam should become a majority force in the US would they try to suppress Christianity? The answer in a word is YES. The Quran instructs all true followers to either convert or eliminate non believers. There is no tolerance, just ask the hundred of thousands of Christian martyrs that have lost their lives to Islam beginning around 600AD. Islam like Mormonism and JW promises salvation by works and people have a innate desire to believe this. Also Islam promises to address the injustices many see existing in this country. It also offers a higher moral standard than our weakened and compromised Christianity does. Also Islam gives a sense of belonging something many of our cliquish churches full short of doing. EdB |

4697 | What was/is a temple prostitute? | Gen 38:21 | EdB | 21253
Jensen 1. Check the timing, this is from Genesis before the temple of God was established. It was also before “organized woship” of God was introduced. The temple mentioned here were temple's made to other Gods that happen to be within the land God Abraham. I imagine the descendants of Abraham visited them. Later during the Kings we see pagan worship begin again in Israel and here again the Word of God says the people worshipped other Gods which I think we can safely assumed included temple prostitutes. 2. Yes the temple was the “pimp” as you put it, all funds were considered religious tribute and kept and used by the priest. Many pagan temples had chambers for this particular purpose. However many times pagan worship often turned in orgy with everything being done in the open. 3. Again in those days things were fast and loose and most anyone could worship at a temple, in fact that is one of things that make our God so unique His insistence of having no other Gods before him. As for the carnival ran by the church near were you live I see this as one of the many compromises that creep into the church. Look at the message it is sending to the world. We wonder why we don’t see the power of God in our churches, look what they have become. Everyone takes the story of Jesus cleansing the temple as throwing out the “crooked money changers” but if you read the passage he also drove out the people buying. Mt 21:12; Mk 11:15; Lu 19:45; Jn 2:15. I do not believe the church should engage in commerce of any type. EdB |

4698 | Who are the Gog and Magog? | Rev 20:8 | EdB | 21241
Tim I agree with most everything you said but I wonder about your conclusion of King Gyges as being Gog. In Ezekiel 38:2 "Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him,” The scriptures refer to Gog as prince of the area or Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal. Many have identified Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal to be the northern Africa, and the area we call the Middle East and the parts of southern Russia, Turkey and that area. Most of what we recognize as the Islamic world or area having the highest concentration of Muslems. Many times the term “prince” in the Bible is used to talk about demonic spiritual beings cf. Daniel 10:20. I wonder if the scripture isn’t talking about Islam and spiritual force behind Islam when it is talking about Magog and Gog. Just a thought. EdB |

4699 | Why do people lose interest and leave? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 21215
Tim Rather than assigning books and such why not just start at the beginning of Genesis and go through the bible verse by verse chapter by chapter, book by book until we get to the end. Some verses/chapters would be nothing more than saying meaning is obvious or no comment needed. EdB |

4700 | Why do people lose interest and leave? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 21202
Tim I have always felt the general none specific questions are the ones that lead to problems. I agree if each question and each response was geared to a particular verse it would probably eliminate most of this confusion. However that would severely impact new Christians that have no idea what verse or even book they are asking about. What would we do with those that ask is divorce okay and etc? Remember the forum is driven as much by newcomer questions as it is by someone examining a book. How do we limit questions to just the books being examined. EdB |
