421 | After God granted his request is there | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 151427
Hi eowyn, There's no argument with the statement of 1 Chron. 4:10. It stands as written that God granted him at least those things previously mentioned. However, the original question was, "Does Jabez have a name change after his prayer". Scripture does not plainly tell us there was a(name) change as part of verse 10. That was my point. So, beyond that, we don't know. Are you saying that from vs. 10 we can conclude his name changed? Just trying to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

422 | After God granted his request is there | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 151596
Hi eowyn, I send you this in hopes that it will be of assistance to you in your understanding of scripture:-) This is from CARM.org and "Interpretive Principles". It is not a complete- or all-inclusive list- but it's a good start. This is what we are talking about when we refer to interpreting the Bible. Biblical Interpretation The Bible is God’s Word. But some of the interpretations derived from it are not. There are many cults and Christian groups that use the Bible claiming their interpretations are correct. Too often, however, the interpretations not only differ dramatically but are clearly contradictory. This does not mean that the Bible is a confusing document. Rather, the problem lies in those who interpret and the methods they use. Because we are sinners, we are incapable of interpreting God’s word perfectly all of the time. The body, mind, will, and emotions are affected by sin and make 100 per cent interpretive accuracy impossible. This does not mean that accurate understanding of God’s Word is impossible. But it does mean that we need to approach His word with care, humility, and reason. Additionally, we need, as best as can be had, the guidance of the Holy Spirit in interpreting God’s Word. After all, the Bible is inspired by God and is addressed to His people. The Holy Spirit helps us to understand what God’s word means and how to apply it. On the human level, to lessen the errors that come in our interpretations, we need to look at some basic biblical interpretive methods. I’ll list some of the principles in the form of questions and then apply them one at a time to a passage of scripture. I offer the following principles as guidelines for examining a passage. They are not exhaustive nor are they set in concrete. 1. Who wrote/spoke the passage and to whom was it addressed? 2. What does the passage say? 3. Are there any words or phrases in the passage that need to be examined? 4. What is the immediate context? 5. What is the broader context in the chapter and book? 6. What are the related verses to the passage’s subject and how do they affect the understanding of this passage? 7. What is the historical and cultural background? 8. What do I conclude about the passage? 9. Do my conclusions agree or disagree with related areas of scripture and others who have studied the passage? 10. What have I learned and what must I apply to my life? You can read scripture like you want to. However, it does help a great deal if you have some sort of "system" to help you. God Bless, BradK |

423 | God being lonely? | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 151672
Hi Angel, I followed you up to your last point that, "God too experiences loneliness". Our suspicions or feelings are entirely separate from God on the matter of His Solitariness. Could you clarify? While we may "think" that God could be lonely, does scripture support this notion? If God experiences loneliness, then He is not entirely self-sufficient (as kalos noted). As A. W. Pink writes: "In the beginning, God" (Gen. 1:1). There was a time, if "time" is could be called, when God, in the unity of His nature (though subsisting equally in three Divine Persons), dwelt all alone. "In the beginning, God." There was no heaven, where His glory is now particularly manifested. There was no earth to engage His attention. There were no angels to hymn His praises; no universe to be upheld by the word of His power. There was nothing, no one, but God; and that, not for a day, a year, or an age, but "from everlasting." During a past eternity, God was alone: self-contained, self-sufficient, self-satisfied; in need of nothing. Had a universe, had angels, had human beings been necessary to Him in any way, they also had been called into existence from all eternity. The creating of them when He did, added nothing to God essentially. He changes not (Mal. 3:6), therefore His essential glory can be neither augmented nor diminished." 424 | God being lonely? | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 151810
Hi Angel, Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate it! That adjective, "seeming" makes all the difference:-) I didn't think you were saying that God is lonely. We have communicated in that both of us now understand what the other meant by what he said. If only others could take the time to do so... God Bless, BradK |

425 | How old is the earth? | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 158525
Hello llaws, The "young-earth" vs. "old-earth" is indeed an ongoing debatable issue:-) You say, "Significantly, the Genesis account shows that the expression “day” is used in a flexible sense. At Genesis 2:4, the entire period of six days described in the preceding chapter is spoken of as only one day. Logically, these were, not literal days of 24 hours, but long periods of time. Each of these epochs evidently lasted thousands of years." How did you come to that conclusion? BradK |

426 | Did God create Life? | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 161223
Hi abccan, I'm not the only one unclear on what you're looking for? Could you explain better what you are looking for in the way of an answer? Perhaps Psalm 33:6-9 is what you're looking for? "By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast." If not, how would you answer, "Did god Create LIFE? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

429 | Did God create Satin? | Gen 1:1 | BradK | 232684
Hello mantale, You've responded to a post that is over 1 year old and the poster hasn't been active for about that time. You may not receive a reply:-) As an observation I noticed you said, "That is why We are not to change the word as it was written. Rev. 22:18-19 King James v..." Am I correct to assume this means you hold to the KJV as being the only inerrant, inspired Word of God? Perhaps you could clarify? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

430 | Is Genesis 1:2 the fall of satan? | Gen 1:2 | BradK | 143840
Hi Appleseed, You say "God created the earth and the heavens in Genesis 1:1 then He destroyed it by casting Satan down to entire earth and removing His light from the earth"? What scriptural proof do you offer for this? I'm afraid you'll have to do better than this to get me to "buy" what you're selling! I see- like Hank- much speculation and theological "guess work" being paraded as Biblical truth:-( That's my take on this... Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

431 | Is Genesis 1:2 the fall of satan? | Gen 1:2 | BradK | 174865
Hello in the vine, You state that, "This leads me to believe that Bible talks about life that existed before Adam and Eve (higher probability it existed based on scripture than not)" My main challenge with that is this: your whole supposition is based upon speculation, not scripture! 432 | world vs age | Gen 1:5 | BradK | 215983
Hello nocompromise, Your statement about the NWT, "the beleif is that the world will not end, it is heaven" may be that held by the Jehovah's Witness, but it stikes me as curious. The NWT is not a translation, but rather a badly done mis-translation- a perversion. No serious, Orthodox scholar places any trust in it as there are no known, credible or otherwise reputable OT Hebrew or NT Greek authorities among the JW's! It is a mis-translation done soley for the purpose of supporting and promulgating their heretical teachings/doctrines! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

434 | world vs age | Gen 1:5 | BradK | 216025
Hello FTK, Welcome to the Forum. Possibly you could enlighten me on a couple items?: 1. In regard to Bible translations, you state, "There is much error". That's a very general statement. Can you provide specific examples?; 2.You also state, "Truth it will feel wonderful", and "All Truth from God produces feelings that are good, warm, loving" Quite honestly, this seems foreign to Biblical theology! Do you have solid scriptural support for this notion? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

435 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | BradK | 54722
Dear Jeshuafreak, I trust that I understand the question being asked. Certainly, what someone purposes to do in the privacy of their own home is between them and the Lord. However, in my estimation it's a smoke-screen to justify un-godly conduct (pun intended). Galatians 6 speaks to our focus and the results of our reaping. I speak from extensive personal knowledge and experience. Prior to my coming to the Lord in 1985, I had been a heavy user of marijuana and other substances. Let me offer 3 brief points in comment: 1. This appears to be a Libertarian issue. I'm very familiar with their position on a number of issues and endorse most of their Political/Economical views. However, I would take strong exception to their stance on most social issues, such as this because I feel they take personal freedom beyond Biblical injunctions; 2. Marijuana and other such controlled substances are ILLEGAL! Do we advocate that a "Christian" knowingly and willingly break the law? I think not. Christ spoke to this matter in general in Matt. 22:21. How do we reconcile breaking the law with Pauls' admonition in Titus 2;6-7, "to be sober minded?" (See also Tit. 3:3,..."serving various lusts and pleasures..."); 3. I had a brother in the Lord ask me this past year,'what legalizing marijuana had to do with being a Christian?' I challenged him to provide me with any scriptural support or basis to his arguement. He never answered back. My question would be this: Where do we find Biblical admonition to smoke pot? We can't appeal to this based upon the silence of scripture. However, here's what we do know. Paul in 1 Cor.6 and 10 says, "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are not helpful (profitable)... I don't know how being "stoned" would be profitable or for that matter edifying! Further, in Gal.5:13 we have the practice of liberty with parameters,..."do not use liberty as an opportunity for THE FLESH, but through love serve one another." If marijuana is not a desire of the flesh I don't know what is. Lastly, how would Pauls' imperative in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 be viewed? How would my getting high "glorify God in my body?" I hope this perspective is of help. Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |

436 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | BradK | 54731
Dear Hank and 2 Samuel 22, Your observations are noted and applauded. I have to add a couple final notes to this topic. 1. christiansforcannabis.com is a sad but sorry attempt to justify their behavior from a scriptural standpoint. But, where do we stop? How about: Christians for Heroin, Christians for Acid, or Christians for Mescaline, etc. Where does it end?; 2. Can anyone seriously picture our Lord, Jesus Christ, in His Holiness engaging in illicit drug use? If He wouldn't, why should we? Lets'get real! Speaking the Truth In Love, BradK |

437 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | BradK | 54734
Dear Jeshuafreak, I would trust that my somewhat sarcastic remarks did in no way offend you, brother. I am not a Doctor obviously, so there may well be some legitimate medical useage for Marijuana. I would venture to say it's a small minority. My points are strictly intended for those who would use their "liberty in Christ for an opportunity for the flesh". The distinction between drug abuse and "legitimate" medical applications is pretty fine. Yours In Christ, Bradk |

439 | Quotes from where? | Gen 1:26 | BradK | 65932
Dear zerotheory, In scripture we have Is. 48:11, where God says "My GLORY I will not give to another". Also, in Rom. 3:23 we have the statement " that ALL have sinned and fall short of the GLORY of God". My friend ,what glory do we possess outside of God? Biblically, none! "To Him be the glory forever".(Rom. 11:36) Speaking the truth In Love, BradK |

440 | Creation Account: Mythical or Not? | Gen 1:27 | BradK | 85204
Hank and Scribe, Well said gentlemen. A "myth" aside from its' defined meaning in Websters, to me implies humanism, i.e. liberalism. It is therefore mans' attempt to explain away the Word of God. Our faith is founded on fact, not myth! Notice that Jesus said "thy word is truth", not myth in John 17:17. And in His rebuke of satan in Matt. 4, He says "it is written". Surely our Lord is not referring to a mythological tale, but the living Word of God. Similarly, if Paul merely quotes a myth in 1 Timothy 2:13-14, is he not then contradicting himself in 2 Timothy 3:16? Certainly not! I think Paul aptly said it when he wrote "May it never be! Rather, let God be found true, though every man be found a liar,..." ( Rom. 3:4) Speaking The Truth In Love, BradK |
