6021 | Christ our Superior Priest | Heb 4:14 | DocTrinsograce | 125363
Sorry... don't mean to sound preachy... I'm just adding to the "margin." I can't find the specific quote, but somehere on this website it says something to the effect of "...imagine a Bible with an infinitely large margin and thousands of people making notes..." I like that idea. :-) So I'm making notes. Isn't that the purpose of the "Note" category? Please let me know if I've missed the boat somewhere along the way.
6022 | Christ our Superior Priest | Heb 4:14 | DocTrinsograce | 125290
The book of Hebrews is about the superiority of Christ. This particular passage shows Christ as the superior high priest. First He is superior because He has been ordained directly by God. Second He is superior because He knows the inadequacies of the people for whom He intercedes. Third He is superior because He is in the order of Melchisedec, a superior line of priests than the sons of Aaron.
6023 | Superiority of Christ to Moses | Heb 3:3 | DocTrinsograce | 125289
The theme of the book of Hebrews is the superiority of Christ. This particular passage shows clearly the superiority of Christ to Moses. This was very significant to the Jews, since Moses is revered as an exceptional human being. He is called "that holy man of God" repeatedly in the Old Testament. To the Jew, Moses was the giver of the Law. They could accord no greater esteem to any man. However, the author of the book of Hebrews tells us that Moses brought the Law, but was not the originator of the Law. Christ was the originator of the Law. Indeed, He was the Word of God incarnate.
6024 | Superioirty of Christ to Angels | Heb 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 125288
The theme of the book of Hebrews is the superiority of Christ. This particular passage begins an explicit declaration of the superiority of Christ to the angels.
6025 | don't see who his wife parents are | Gen 4:17 | DocTrinsograce | 125269
With no other scripture passage to explicitly tell us, we cannot identify her parents. However, who ever her parents were, they must necessarily have been descendants of Adam and Eve. Perhaps this woman was even a sister of Cain. There is precedence for this in scripture: Sarah was the half-sister of Abraham. Due to degredation of the genetic pool, many generations later, Moses prohibitted inter-marriage by close relatives.
6026 | Seeing their lawless deeds. | 2 Pet 2:8 | DocTrinsograce | 125267
All Lot had to do was close his door to shut out the view of lawless deeds. But we actually pay someone to pipe the images of people doing lawless deeds into our homes in a far more concentrated form than Lot ever witnessed. Do we need any further scriptures to encourage us to turn off our televisions?
6027 | Six sins Lord hates; Seven detestable | Prov 6:16 | DocTrinsograce | 125265
That is a request, dear sister, that you can bank on! Per James 1:5 God is always ready to give us wisdom. That verse further says that God does so "without reproach." To me, that's the penultimate "There are no dumb questions." What a gracious God we have! Thank you for your question and for your subsequent response. Please pray with me that God will grant us both greater wisdom... but more than that, that we will grow in our knowledge of Him!
6028 | This seesm to point to preordination (I | Eph 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 125240
I agree... Please excuse my interjection. I agree that we have free will. However, salvation is not a matter of human will. John 1:12-13 says that it was a matter of God's will. Note also in Ephesians 2 that it is only God who is acting. We can take no credit for our salvation even in the tiniest degreee. This is very precious and very humbling. There is nothing in me that warranted His choice of me. The wonder is not that God did not choose some, the wonder is that He chose anyone! Remember, even God has limitted power of the will. God can do nothing that is contrary to His nature. God can do nothing that He does not want to do. But is that really different than any sapient being? We cannot do anything contrary to our nature. Even a dog cannot be a bird just by willing it to be true. |

6029 | is it ok to kill? | Eccl 3:3 | DocTrinsograce | 125227
Yes, sometimes we must use violence in order to prevent a greater sin. Note that the intent is not for any self centered or empassioned reasons. The difference is that as believers, as soon as the sinful act has been prevented, we immediately seek to aid the injured would-be-criminal by calling an ambulance. Nevertheless, I pray that God will not see fit to place me into such a situation.
