1 | Christian man wants to remarry | 1 Corinthians | studiosus.theologiae | 170208 | ||
I think this post makes a good point. The remarriage of one party in the Bible does make a distinction between the innocent party (the one who was wronged) and the guilty party (the unchaste/fornicator). The fact that you were not a Christian does not give you the right to say that your ex-wife had not business marrying you in the first place. At best she made a mistake on you, and you rewarded her with infidelity (sounds harsh, sorry, couldn't find words to make it have less of an impact). I agree with Justme that biblical counseling is probably a necessity for you two because you are A) both previously divorced (zero percent success rate in marriage), and B) you personally were the guilty party in the previous marriage. It is hard to put numbers on a persons relationship, but some counselors will probably recommend 8 months to 1 year of engagement and 3 to 6 months of premarital counseling for you and this other woman. Maintain Christ as your focus throughout these situations. |

The comments of Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown could be useful here on Matthew 5:31-33, "Whether the innocent party, after a just divorce, may lawfully marry again, is not treated of here. The Church of Rome says, No, but the Greek and Protestant Churches allow it." |
