in terms of interpretation of the word used for evil in the passage, "Ra," these are all the possible definitions: bad, evil bad, disagreeable, malignant bad, unpleasant, evil (giving pain, unhappiness, misery) evil, displeasing bad (of its kind - land, water, etc) bad (of value) worse than, worst (comparison) sad, unhappy evil (hurtful) bad, unkind (vicious in disposition) bad, evil, wicked (ethically) in general, of persons, of thoughts deeds, actions n m evil, distress, misery, injury, calamity evil, distress, adversity evil, injury, wrong evil (ethical) n f evil, misery, distress, injury evil, misery, distress evil, injury, wrong evil (ethical) my question to you is why do you choose to believe the word means ethical evil when it clearly states in other passages that God does not tempt man with evil and that He himself hates evil and commands man not to commit evil? and the biggest of all, sent His Son to die to save us from sin (evil)? in that same passage of isaiah 45 it speaks of bringing righteousness several times. also, you need to take note that in 45:7 each version of the bible indicatres opposites (light and dark, peace and calamity) except for the versions that say "evil." maybe that's because the translation of "evil" is not refering to ethical evil. You know, if God is the author of sin, he cannot also be the author of righteousness. he would not create that which he hates. he may allow it, but He does not create it. it really is common sense. unfortunately, we do not live in times of common sense as you may have noticed. of course i would like to see the passage of scripture that says all sin comes from God. concerning God being good, you say that He is above good, but how so? what does that mean? So since the only thing that existed eternally was God himself... without characteristics? was he as formless and void as the earth before creation? He had no characteristics at all? explain yourself. |

10 | God created satan, did he create evil ? | Is 45:7 | skrittt | 65865 | ||
actually, the notion of creating evil is a mistaken one. God's character is morally good. it is actually his very character that definess moral good. in this sense good was not created and is eternal as God is eternal. evil as the antithipas of good also has existed eternally, but has existed more as a "possibility" rahter than something that was acted out. you must distinguish evil it self from acts of evil. concerning the verse isaiah 45:7, notice that the word hebrew word being used there is Ra which refers to evil in the sense of destruction or situationally bad things (not morally bad things). Rasha is the hebrew word for moral evil, not ra. so the thing here is trnslation of the word in hebrew and the understanding of the word evil as it is used in this passage. |
