21 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | 1 Cor 1:1 | journey_me | 93522
The other day a lady wrote a question regarding the role of women in church. On tv the news compared the election of an openly-gay bishop to a similar scandal involving the appointment of the first female bishop. I was wondering why would a woamn bishop bring about a threat of separation between the episcopalan and anglican church. Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Saith what law? Is this strictly for those who are under the law? Are women under Grace permitted to speak in church? Can somone explain this to me? Are women allowed to be leaders in church or not? The scriptures clearly say no. Why are women required to be silent and seek knowledge from their husbands? I am not trying to be sexist, I am trying to understand how we can justify having women preachers, bishops, and etc if it is against the scriptures. |

24 | Homesexuality? Wrong? | Lev 20:18 | journey_me | 92986
Here I go again. Where can I find specifics dealing with homosexuality? Does the bible explicitly say homosexuality is wrong or does it implicitly say so? How can the episcopalian church elect an openly gay person as bishop, especially if he is actively gay? Or is simply not prcticing homosexuality? Is homesexuality not apart of the doctorine they teach? Please help. I am an advocate and I love to debate. Sometimes I get stuk because I can't find certain things. I need some textual evidence for this one. I remember reading something in Romans, but I can't find it. |

26 | The Gift of Tongues | 1 Corinthians | journey_me | 92887
Can every Christian or any Christian speak tongues? I went to church with a friend and the preacher asked everyone to speak in tongues and the majority of the people broke out in "tongue"? I was taught that the gift of tongues was a spiritual gift and that not all people possess all gifts. |

27 | Literal or Not? | Matt 19:4 | journey_me | 92876
Is the bible literal in regards to history and creation? Timothy 3:16 depicts the bible as being a source for living or a guide. It doesn't directly or indirectly apply that the bible is literal. With that being said, how do we distibguish metaphors, parables, and symbols? None of these ideas take away from Timothy 3:16. When discusiing creation you are lead to believe that the bible is literal? Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such? |
