721 | Zsuzsi, which Scripture don't YOU keep? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Searcher56 | 123572
You said ... "There are several passages in the Bible which are, even though truly God's inspired Word (I agree- everything in the Bible is what He wants us to know), impossible to keep word-by-word today" So do YOU pick and choose what YOU want to keep? What do you do with 2 Timothy 3:16? What part of "ALL Scripture" IS NOT "profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness"? |

While Scripture was written at a time when the majority of women were considered low, and even personal property, which we do not consider this now. Does this change what the Bible says about the role of women in the church? I recently reposted an old post (127994) on this subject?

725 | Cultural errors corrected by Scripture? | 1 Tim 3:1 | Searcher56 | 159747
???? "How much culture had a part in what Scripture says" ???? ... God's day to you Justme, I would say the Holy Spirit inspired all Scripture (2 Tim 3:16) and transcends all cultures ... and may have been written to correct cultural errors, so they are in line with the Bible. Steve |

726 | The hard heart is not the adulterer. | 1 Tim 3:2 | Searcher56 | 6929
The writer has the hard heart in the wrong person. It is the hardness of the heart of the innocent spouse. Hosea did not divorce Gomer, tho she committed hard-hearted adultery. God has not divorced Israle, not Christ the church - tho we both commit hard-hearted adultery. |

You said, "He will ensure that the right revelation is made to you through the study of the Word. Other people's revelation is only an inspiration" 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness" How do you see other people's revelation is inspired? I see Scripture is inspired not what other people's revelation. |

730 | Paul's extra-biblical teaching inerrant? | 2 Tim 3:16 | Searcher56 | 8047
Lionstrong, was any of Paul's extra-biblical teaching inerrant? I believe Scripture is 100 percent God breathed. But, Paul and others taught other things that were not recorded in God's Word. My answer to Hank's question is that is is possible that his teachings not recorded in the Bible could have errors ... But, we do not know, since we do not know what he said. No one is correct all the time in their teaching all the time. Most of the teachers will agree with that. |

733 | Was Paul an overseer or deacon? | Titus 1:6 | Searcher56 | 124128
Kalos, "Further the Bible ENCOURAGES remarriage after widowhood" ... 1 Cor 7:39 says "wishes" and in verse 40 says "But in my opinion she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God". which is the opposite. I know you are quoting MacArthur, but I think he is wrong. Marriage after divorce. Again, MacArthur doesn't say the reason one can remarry after divorce. The only one FREE from the previous spouse, is when an unbeliever leaves (1 Cor 7:15) ... the passages in Matthew deal with the hard hearts, I think of the innocent person. Was Paul an overseer or deacon? I believe he started churches and preached ... but that doesn't make him either. There are men like that today. Moreover, being a 'one-woman man' is only one of the qualifications. Next on the list is children. If one has no children, are they DQed? Searcher |
