261 | Why isn't the gift of tongues a sign? | 2 Cor 13:14 | Searcher56 | 112888
Scripture ... 1 Corinthians 12-14 ... Actually, Paul is talking about tongues in this whole section. - It is one of the gifts of the Spirit (12:4, 10, 11) - Not everyone has this or any other gift (12:28-30) - We should desire the greater gifts (vs 31) and tongues is a lesser gift (12:28-30) ... but we should not disregard any gift (12:15-24) - God still chooses who gets what gift (12:11, 18) - Speaking in a tongue w/o love is just emtpy noise (1 Cor 13:1) ... as with other gifts (1 Cor 13:2-3) - Tongues and two other gifts are temporal (1 Cor 13:8) ... Tongues by its own initative, the other two will done away with when the perfect comes (1 Cor 13:8-10). - Tongues are for a sign, to unbelievers (1 Cor 14:22) ... ans again - it is a sign of judgment to the Jews, as I have already pointed out |

268 | Tara1, Where are angels called gods? | John 3:16 | Searcher56 | 112023
In John 20:28 Thomas said to Jesus Christ, "My Lord (Kurios) my God (Theos)" It is clear to me he knew He was his God. Monogenes means "single of its kind, only". Abraham was told Isaac was this (Gen 22:2, Heb 11:17), yet we know Ishmael was his son, too (Gen 17:23-26, 25:9). Psalms 8:4-5 does not say angels are properly called gods Matthew 4:8-10 is about Satan wanting Jesus to worship him. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man - this has been proven to you by others already. |

269 | Were the 120 orphans before Penecost? | 1 Cor 12:11 | Searcher56 | 111854
I can line up experts to show "receive" in John 20:22 means they received the Holy Spirit at that time. Would you like the list? In fact, the word receive is lambano (Strong's 2983) and could be translated take. If it was the future, it would have been translated "you will receive". I am not sure when the other 109 received the Holy Spirit ... but, it had to be before Penecost. They all would have been orphans between His acsencion and Penecost. |

270 | prayon Did some not rec the Holy Spirit | 1 Cor 12:11 | Searcher56 | 111780
"Four out of 5 cases tongues was the initial evidence. In the 5th case tongues is alluded to." ... Acts 2:4 ... was not the initial evidence Acts 8:14-19 ... does not prove they spoke in tongues, only that Simon wanted to gain money by it. Acts 9:4-19 "As you stated he spoke in tongues later" therefore it was not initial evidence. Summary - Since two of the five times we see the Holy Spirit and tongues mentioned, tongues is not proof one has the Holy Spirit. Moreover, it is only one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 12). What about the other salvation experiences - are you saying the Holy Spirit was not recieved? Correction - Acts 2:27 should be Acts 5:14 |

271 | prayon, Infilling happen at salvation? | 1 Cor 12:11 | Searcher56 | 111778
Scripture ... John 20:22; Acts 2:4 4:8, 31, 9:17, 13:9, 13:52; Eph 5:18 ... Acts 2:4 ... does being "filled with the Holy Spirit" mean it was the first time they received the Holy Spirit? - John 20:22 shows they had received the Holy Spirit. - Acts 4:8, 31, 9:17, 13:9, 13:52; Eph 5:18 While Acts 13:52 says "continually filled" I believe the Greek tense indicates there is need for us to get filled with Him.
