221 | The answer of a good conscience...God. | 1 Pet 3:21 | Ray | 78458
Is not this verse a good place to start with a clean slate and open mind? Consider that this verse is a definition in itself of baptism. I offer this literal translation by Jay P.Green, Sr., editor of a Interlinear by Baker Book House. 1 Peter 3:20, "...an ark having been prepared in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. 21 Which antitype now also saves us, baptism (not a putting away of (the) filth of (the) flesh, but (the) answer of a good conscience toward God through (the) resurrection of Jesus Christ; 22 who, having gone into Heaven is at (the) right hand of God, (the) angels, and authorities, and powers being subjected to Him)." I submit to you that this parenthetical verse gives us the answer of what baptism is. Note the phrase in the NASB for a shorter definition. Note Acts 8:32-37 for an example of "the answer of a good conscience toward God". The eunuch recounted, declared, related His generation to us. "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." 226 | For power is perfected in weakness? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 75030
Hi Searcher56, In 2 Corinthians 12:9 it says, "And He has said to me,'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me." Thanks for your interest. It does help to know the Scripture reference doesn't it? :) From the heart, Ray |

228 | Spirit or spirit? | Matt 12:28 | Ray | 74659
Matthew 12:28 is rendered, "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." Luke 11:20 reads, "But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you." In comparing these verses does the "finger" of God relate more to a spirit or a Spirit? I welcome any suggestions or comments from anyone. Welcome to the forum, Kayotte. From the heart, Ray |

229 | How are demons cast out? | Matt 12:28 | Ray | 74471
I believe that some of the pronouns in our translations that are capitalized should be in lower case. Matthew 12:28 for me is a case in point. I would interpret it thus and ask for your comments. "But if I cast out demons by the spirit of (God), then the kingdom of God has come upon you." From the heart, Ray |

230 | A Son will be given? | Mic 5:3 | Ray | 74099

231 | A Child shall be born? | Mic 5:3 | Ray | 74005
For Micah 5:2 I want to capitalize "Ruler" as the NKJ does and also capitalize "Child" for Micah 5:3, NASB. Can I get any feedback about this interpretation through capitalization? From the heart, Ray |

232 | Are you being put to the test? | John 6:6 | Ray | 73737
Jesus saw the multitudes were coming to Him and asked Philip, "Where are we to buy bread, that these may eat?" Why did Jesus test Philip? From the heart, Ray |

233 | The purposes of God? | Acts 13:36 | Ray | 73599
I was looking at the "purpose of God" and comparing Scriptures this morning. I have this question for our Greek students today. It concerns the translated words "He Himself"; for instance John 2:25 and John 6:66. The NASB has He Himself for both verses and the NKJ has it rendered that way only for John 6:6. Are there any rules or guidelines that can help us to be consistent in this translating? Personally, I would leave off the "Himself". John 6:6, "And this He was saying to test him; for He/ knew what He was intending to do." John 2:25, "and because He/ did not need anyone to bear witness concerning man for He knew what was in man." Zechariah 8:14, "For thus says the Lord/ of hosts, 'Just as I PURPOSED to do harm to you when your fathers provoked Me to wrath,'..." John 1:43, "The next day He PURPOSED to go forth into Galilee,..." He/ knew what He was intending to do and the purposes of God will be accomplished. From the heart, Ray |

234 | Catastrophy: Greek "katastropho" | Matt 21:12 | Ray | 73282
Hi Tim, Thanks for the information. Here is another question for verse twelve. Why is this a catastrophy?
235 | Holy Spirit and holy spirit? | Gen 1:2 | Ray | 73142
I believe that there is a difference between being "indwelt" and being "filled". I agree with the discussion here about the Holy Spirit being present right from the start of Genesis and the indwelling being after a saving faith in Christ. Colossians 1:27, "...which is *Christ in you, the hope of glory." Psalm 130:1-5, "Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord/. *Lord, hear my voice! Let Thine ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. If (Thou), Lord, shouldst mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with Thee, that Thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His/ word do I hope." They hoped in His word and we hope in His Word do we not? Psalm 51:10, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Thy presence, And do not take Thy Holy Spirit/ from me. Restore to me the joy of *Thy salvation, And sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Thy ways, And sinners will be converted to (Thee)." I have included * stars and parentheses for comparisons and contrasts. The Scriptures have the word and the Word, the Spirit and the spirit. Are you open yet to the possibility of our being "filled with holy spirit" as at Pentecost? The Psalm speaks of a steadfast spirit within them. Can we have that same spirit? From the heart, Ray |

236 | How significant is a Greek word ending? | Matt 21:12 | Ray | 73076
In Matthew 21:12 we are given the word KATESTREPSEN in one copy and KATESTREPSE in another Interlinear copy I own. How does this lack of the final N affect the verse? One copy also has Jesus entering the temple of God and the other has omitted "of God". To your mind does the inclusion of "of God" detract from the Deity of Jesus? [Rather than saying "His temple" for instance.] As I have said, I believe God turned the tables in this passage of Scripture and brought glory to Himself. From the heart, Ray |

237 | Telling the truth | 1 Tim 2:6 | Ray | 72997
I like the capitalization of the NKJ for the verse leading up to 1 Timothy 2:6. I would like the ones who know Greek on the forum to give comments on my rendering of 1 Timothy 2:6. 1 Timothy 2:5, NKJ, and verse 6 [my own rendering for what it is worth], "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 the One who gave Himself a ransom for all, the testimony to be borne in His own time." From the heart, Ray |

238 | It is time to glorify God for His mercy? | Rom 15:8 | Ray | 72287
The versions out there today do not capitalize "servant" here in this verse. Here is my rendering of the verse with an added phrase for what it is worth and for discussion and comment. Romans 15:8,9, "For I say that Christ has become a *Servant to the circumsion on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, *and I say that it is time* for the Gentiles to glorify God/ for His mercy; as it is written, "Therefore I [David] will give praise to Thee among the Gentiles, and I [David] will sing to (Thy) name."" May the name of God be praised! From the heart, Ray |

I have a question for Tim Moran or any Greek resident advisors here on the forum. Would the Greek require a pronoun for "He overthrew" or turned over the tables? From the heart, Ray |
