61 | How much does salvation cost us? | Matt 13:46 | Lionstrong | 5282
How much does salvation cost us? Nothing and everthing. Mark 10:45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Only the sacrifice of the sinless, Son of God could ransom us from our enslavement to sin, from our debt to the righteous law of God. Any attempt to pay the debt we owe only cheapens the the blood of Christ and insults the total sufficiency of His finished work on the cross. Salvation costs us nothing. Christ's ransom fully satisfied the justice of God. Phil 3:8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, I disagree that "Christianity is not a religion; it is a relationship." Our religion IS a relationship, God reconciled to man through Christ. And as we realize the value of this great pearl, we give up all as rubbish and suffer its loss to gain more of the value of this new relationship. Lionstrong |

Matt 7:22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' Matt 7:23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' What's your point, Jim? Elaborate, please? Lionstrong |

63 | Them or All of Us? | Mark 16:15 | Lionstrong | 62967
Mark 16:14 Afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen. Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. How do you know that the authority to preach the gospel was given to all believers rather than to the leadership alone? Peace, |

64 | No one or no thing? | Luke 8:13 | Lionstrong | 9714
John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; John 10:28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. John 10:29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. Hi, KM, "No external force can drive me out of the fathers hand. Jesus was not convering the free choice of man." So, "no ONE" means "no external FORCE." Jesus said "one", and you say "external force." Jesus is talking about someONE, and you are saying it means someTHING. How do you get from "one" to "force?" |

"Continue reading past verse 27. Wow! context, context, context. No external force can drive me out of the fathers hand. Jesus was not convering the free choice of man." Hello, KM, How do get from "one" in Jn 10:28, 29 to "force?" |

66 | Is some truth relative? | John 14:17 | Lionstrong | 8848
Hello, Nolan, Just a question for clarification: Whereas it is false that ALL truth is relative, is it true that SOME truth is relative? If so, what truths? |

67 | A Wonderful Plan? How do you know? | Rom 1:18 | Lionstrong | 20259
In other words how can my Arminian brother tell an unbeliever that God loves him and has a wonderful plan for his life? Does he know what plans God has for his life? And if the Almighty Soveriegn God has plans, who can change them? Can the Almighty's plans be frustrated by a mere man? Is 14:27 "For the LORD of hosts has planned, and who can frustrate it? And as for His stretched-out hand, who can turn it back?" Peace, Lionstrong |

68 | The Spirit and the Word: How Related? | Rom 8:11 | Lionstrong | 29264
Christ's gift of Holy Spirit to his people is great. But the comments of some of the members of our forum raises a question for me. This question might be a good one to study God's word for an answer. (Or by the indwelling Spirit do we need to consult God's Word?) The general question is what is the relationship between the Spirit and the Word? More specifically, does the indwelling of the Holy Spirit make the Word or parts thereof superfluous? When indwelt by the Holy Spirit do we "automatically know" the will of God? And if the work of the Holy Spirit is to dispense knowledge "automatically," what sense do we make of the verses where God commands us to grow and learn? (Eph. 5:10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 2 Pet. 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. ) Those who have been in the forum for more than a day will know that there won't be agreement on this issue, so let's not try at first to persuade but to clearly present our biblically supported opinion. Peace, Lionstrong |

69 | Mercy Essential? | Rom 9:15 | Lionstrong | 13573
According to this verse, does God have to be merciful? Romans 9:15 For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." The answer is no. God's essential nature is goodness, not mercy. God can be merciful because he's good, but he's not obligated to show mercy. It is totally up to him. Ps 34:8, "O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!" Peace, Lionstrong |

70 | IfGodMakesPeopleJealous,Why is it Wrong? | Rom 13:13 | Lionstrong | 62574
This question grew out of my thinking about the second commandment. As a kid growing up I'd here people saying that jealousy was wrong for man. Then they'd have to turn around and argue how it was ok for God. I've never understood that. Why was jealousy thought to be wrong? In the civil law (Numbers 5) God does not forbid a man's jealousy. Num 5:14, "if a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife when she has defiled herself, or if a spirit of jealousy comes over him and he is jealous of his wife when she has not defiled herself..." etc. So where does this concept that it's always wrong for a man to be jealous come from? At present I don't believe it's wrong. Just as our anger can become sin, I believe our jealousy can become sin. There are several examples of this in the NT (note the verse this question is posted under). But if jealousy were inherently sin for man, why would God and Paul induce the Jews to it? Rom 10:19 But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, "I WILL MAKE YOU JEALOUS BY THAT WHICH IS NOT A NATION, BY A NATION WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING WILL I ANGER YOU." Rom 11:11 I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. Rom 11:14 if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them. From the hip, Lionstrong |

71 | The Unity of Faith, Hope and Love | 1 Cor 13:13 | Lionstrong | 120251
1 Cor 13:13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love. A very interesting quote this verse is! But into what category of thought do these three things fall? The Apostle Paul just says “these three.” And my question is, “these three what?” What are these three things; are they three concepts, three principles, three moral values, three what? I’m looking for a unity here. In what class of things do these three things belong? What word, what concept, or what idea unifies faith, hope and love? |

74 | How do we do the How? | Gal 5:16 | Lionstrong | 4013
Paul tells believers by what means (how) they can avoid carrying out the desires of the flesh, namely, by walking by the Spirit. But I don't remember hearing an explanation of this verse that didn't sound like a buch of religious, pious mumbo-jumbo. Does anybody out there want to take a shot at explaning how to walk by the Spirit (how do we do the How)? Please be biblical and sensible. |

75 | "Catch Twenty-two?" | Gal 5:16 | Lionstrong | 4105
Thanks for your answer, JohnyRay. It seems clear enough. A couple of questions come to mind if you will bear with me: 1. Gal 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. and: Rom 7:18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. Rom 7:19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. These verses, including the very context of my question, say that I can't keep God's good and holy law. If I could I wouldn't need to walk by the Spirit in order to avoid carrying out the desires of the flesh. So doesn't this seem like a "catch twenty-two?" 2. If yours is the correct answer, how did you arrive at this answer, that the way to walk in the Spirit is by walking in the light of the Law of Christ? I hope I'm not being quarrelsome, but I believe the transforming of my mind will conform me to Christ and not to the world. And I believe that struggling over the Scriptures, with God's help, will move us to that end. Thanks again for your help. Lionstrong |

76 | Covenants and Dispensation? | Eph 1:10 | Lionstrong | 5101
In the KJV the word is dispensation, whence dispensationalism. I disagree with dispensationalism and hold to what's call covenental theology. But I'm weak in my knowledge of both. Can we get in this forum a well versed dispensationalist and a well versed covenanter to present a page on the biblical pros and cons of their view? And may there be more light and heat. Lionstrong |

77 | Propitiation or Faith? | Eph 3:6 | Lionstrong | 19202
Which is it, Bill? "It [propitiaiton] is forgiveness for all sins (unrighteous acts) for all people for all time. It is reconciliation." "But if, while here on earth, you accept God's provision by faith, you are indeed forgiven for all your sins and you have eternal life." Are we forgiven by our Savior's propitiation or by accepting God's provision? Or both? Peace, Lionstrong |

78 | Propitiation: Forgiveness or Provision? | Eph 3:6 | Lionstrong | 19209
So which is it, Brother Bill? "It [propitiation] is forgiveness for all sins (unrighteous acts) for all people for all time. It is reconciliation." "Forgiveness was provided at the cross by Christ's blood." Do we have forgiveness in the propitiation of our Savior or just the provision of it? Which statement are you standing by? Peace, Lionstrong |

79 | Propitiation: Forgiveness or Provision? | Eph 3:6 | Lionstrong | 19213
Dear Brother Bill, "It [propitiation] is forgiveness for all sins (unrighteous acts) for all people for all time. It is reconciliation." This statement means that I am forgiven. "Forgiveness was provided at the cross by Christ's blood." This statement means that I am not forgiven. So, what are saying about propitiation of the Savior. Are we forgiven by it, or not. Or does it only provide for forgiveness? Peace, Lionstrong |

80 | Is long life in this world a desideratum | Phil 1:23 | Lionstrong | 4471
Eph 6:2 HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), Eph 6:3 SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH. In light of the fact that it is better to depart and be with Christ, is long life in this sin cursed world a desideratum? |
