41582 | Please explain this verse? | Mark 15:34 | kalos | 1551
Subject: Please explain this verse? Mark 15:34 Note: "That's the way I see it too. It's too bad no one responded to you directly." What in the world is this forum coming to? Out of more than a dozen replies, only one person responded to the question directly? What a pity that only one among us had the great wisdom and knowledge to respond directly -- capitalized pronouns and all! Yeah, right. |

41586 | ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI? | Mark 15:34 | kalos | 1537
Why have you forsaken me? Mark 15:34 "Jesus felt keenly His abandonment by the Father, resulting from God's wrath being poured out on Him as the substitute for sinners." (p. 1500, MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997) . . . 2 Cor 5:21 "'sin for us.' God the Father, using the principle of imputation, treated Christ as if He were a sinner though He was not, and had Him die as a substitute to pay the penalty for the sins of those who believe in Him. On the cross, He did not become a sinner (as some suggest), but remained as holy as ever. He was treated as if He were guilty of all the sins ever committed by all who would ever believe, though He committed none. The wrath of God was exhausted on Him and the just requirement of God's law met for those for whom He died." (p. 1772, MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997) . . . JVH0212 "[being] ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you." 1 Pet 3:15 (ASV 1901) |

41589 | Malachi-John 17 brain teaser | Malachi | Ray | 1514
I have an exercise, a brain-teaser, an intellectual, philosophical challenge to extend to anybody out there. After looking at the book of Malachi, three and a quarter pages, in both the NASB and NKJ, especially noticing the use of capitalization in Mal l:6 and 2:10, I suggest this exercise. Go to John 17:l-26, the high priestly prayer of Jesus or High Priestly prayer. Use a pencil, an old Bible, or your computer, and put in the capitalization you would decide appropriate. The challenge I would put forth is that you have the total capitalized pronouns be divisible by three. Anybody interested? |

41590 | Best commentary on Revelation? | Revelation | kalos | 1511
Best commentary on revelation? . . . This is another non-answer to a question originally posted on 03-13-2001, 8:56PM. I hope that some of the members of this forum find the following to be informative and of interest. . . . I fully concur with EdB's (see Answer on Revelation by EdB, 03-20-2001, 1:19PM) short list of authors recommended for their reliability and trustworthiness. Following is a list of authors who, in my opinion, are doctrinally sound, reliable, and trustworthy in their teachings and writings. They are rooted firmly in the Bible and in the mainstream of the historic Christian faith. They are: . . . 1) The Christian Research Institute; 2)David Jeremiah; 3) D. James Kennedy; 4) John MacArthur; 5) Josh McDowell; 6) Charles Caldwell Ryrie; 7) Adrian Rogers; 8) R.C. Sproul; 9) Charles Stanley; 10) Chuck Swindoll. . . . (Disclaimer: Infallibility is claimed neither for or by any man on this list. No man is infallible. No translation of the Bible is infallible. Only the Bible itself IN THE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS is both without error and incapable of error. Also, I do not claim this to be an exhaustive list of every reliable author in the history of the church. These names are merely among today's best known and most trusted teachers and writers. If I left out your favorite, I apologize. I am only speaking for myself, and no one else.) |

41592 | The sensational or the reliable? | Revelation | kalos | 1504
Has everyone read EdB's reply, quoted below? Thank you, EdB, for one of the best comments I've ever read in this forum. I agree: Stick with known, reliable authors, ones you can trust. The following names several of them. "Get away from the sensational look at books by Dr Stanley Horton pub. Gospel Publishing House, Dr. David Jeremiah pub. World publishers, Dr. John MacArthur pub Moody or Nelson. Another book you might want to look at is Revelation Four Views edited by Steve Gregg pub. Nelson. I agree with the one name given J. Vernon McGee, you can trust him." (Posted to this forum by EdB, 03-20-2001, 1:19PM.) (Note to EdB:I hope you don't mind me quoting you here. I felt that your reply deserved the widest audience possible. --JVH0212) |

41593 | Define "Pope." | 1 Pet 2:9 | kalos | 1493
Thank you for the challenge of a question that is harder to answer, more controversial and emotional. Before I can answer your question, I will ask you one. Define "Pope." 41595 | Is vegetarianism okay with God? | 1 Cor 8:13 | shorty | 1502
I am feeling a strong pull towards vegetarian eating and am wondering if this would in any way conflict doctrinally with my beliefs as a Christian. I am having difficulty finding other Christian vegetarians. I feel that a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet is healthier for me and feel better eating that way but would not continue it if it would be unbiblical to do so.
41596 | Remember the rest of Christianity? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1487
Whatever happened to Deductive Reasoning. I was under the impression that the study of the Bible should begin with investigation of the all the relevant scriptures, known data and possible viewpoints. Under the unction of the Holy Spirit, and using the reasoning ability given us, we are to create hypothesis. The next obvious step is to apply these hypotheses to real life, and confirm them with actual people and situations in the word. All these steps should be in harmony, and the result should be 'livable' by all believers. Some of the doctrines and dogmas put forth here and in many churches are narrow spectrum. They might work fine in the U.S.A. or in the middle-class, or in a nice big, established church, but they are inapplicable or useless in another environment. Many of the views stated are obviously certain personal thoughts or opinions, then the Bible is used to back it up, with little regard to the rest of the church. I have met many Christians who know that Jesus died for them. But they do not care about the end-time, because circumstances do not allow them the luxury. Please, friends and colleagues, remember the rest of Christianity when you create your arguments and confirm your traditions. Just because someone taught you something very convincingly does not make it right. Understand that I am not speaking to one or two individuals, but to us all. I have been challenged by this forum, and had to repent of much assumption. But God is faithful to exhort us all to better understanding is we hear and think, as well as speak. Blessings to all in Christ Jesus.
41597 | How about common sense? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1483
Good morning, bjanko! Awake, now? I read your answer, and could not but agree with you that children are a gift from God. However, 'it follows that a gift not be returned to the Giver' speaks maybe of abortion, but hardly about preventing conception for reasons of common sense(not personal self-interest). I am absolutely against abortion. I also do not believe in couples 'waiting for better days' or 'deciding not to have kids (at all).' I am not sure of the 'inference' connection between this and salvation or obedience/disobedience. Please do be more specific, especially about the common sense issue. I agree that young couples should hope and desire for children, but after a certain amount of blessing, with some volition of the participants, prevention makes sense. You may live in a society where unlimited blessing is not a problem, but many do not. And how about illness or danger to the woman? How about the danger of abstinence to a middle-age couple? These may not be concerns to YOU, but many would disagree. Or do we make holy exemptions, and based on whose decision? Because ALL is in God's hands, do complications or death become His fault? Or is it the judgment of sin? I don't believe in 'situational ethics,' But without a bit more specific scriptural direction, I cannot see throwing out common sense. The Bible does, however, tell us to be wise and discerning. To throw away the gift of reason is also foolish. Finally, a properly shepherded marriage will find personal direction from the Lord through His church. My friend this is a good discussion. I appreciate your input, and await your answer. In Christ Jesus.
41598 | Scripture please? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1481
Dear bjanko, Scripture please? I wrote a pretty good (in my humble opinion) reply and asked for some references. Perhaps you didn't like my tone, and for that I apologize. Or, perhaps you forgot, or didn't want to answer. Then, I take back the apology :-) Please, friend, the question was 'hanging' until Lady Magdelon accidently 'answered' it. In Christ Jesus.

Personal Introduction Services? Dear Cking_Hisface, Though this is in the 'questions' column, that is for the purpose of letting all the participants of this forum see it. If you want to contact me, or any other saint or saints in this forum that have sent me their personal email, I will forward messages anonymously, without publishing it to this forum.
