41541 | Part 1 Apologetics? | Matt 11:13 | charis | 1755
Part 1 Dear RCSCROLL, you seem intent on 'painting me with the same brush' as those who have hurt you in the past. (Important NOTE! I was re-reading my note, and saw my own PC-name, 'charis.' That's why, isn't it? You are equating this name with Charismatic. LOL! FYI, I use this name because it means 'grace,' NOT Charismatic.) Your bitterness toward anyone who believes in the present-day gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit is apparent. Just because there are a lot of rotten 'ministries' out there, does not give you the righteousness to deny categorically all 'Spirit-filled' Christians, millions of whom serve the Lord with the same faith as was bestowed upon you by grace. Even if we are proven wrong when we meet the Lord, the judgment you proclaim is not in your hands, but God's. We desire earnestly to obey "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."John 4:24 NASB. My use of the word 'restoration' is to that though many gifts were lost to the church through the ages, God desires to restore them. "And it will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions." Joel 2:28 NASB. Joel chapter 2 is a hope of strength from the Lord to prepare us for the last days, to prepare for His glorious return. 100 years ago refers to the Welsh Revival, soon followed by the Pentecostal Movement in America. These preceded the 'Charismatics' by 60 years. BTW, I am not talking about a 'super-apostle or super-prophet.' Below is an edited version of what I wrote before: Apostles impossible? Thu 03/22/01, 5:53am. Perhaps you misplaced it. My dear friend in Christ, I read with great interest your reply. I must respectfully disagree with some of the premises of your opinions on this issue. It seems that you start with the idea that we do not have apostles today, then move on to prove it. Regarding Ephesians 2:20, I agree, these ministries are the foundation Christ laid. I do not propose to re-lay, but to continue on in this foundational gift. In regard to 1 Corinthians 13:8-12, you imply that the 'perfect' has come, thus doing away with the need for spiritual gifts. Jesus is the 'Perfect' spiritual gift, and He has not yet returned. I cannot believe that you say the divided church as we know it is not in need of as many gifts of the Spirit as are made available. We NEED them, now! Unfortunately, many 'ministries' have made a mockery of these gifts, with their misuse, abuse, and just plain false use of them. These miscreants are no excuse for you to deny the Spirit, just encouragement to find their proper use. Part 2 will explain some more. In Christ Jesus. |

41545 | Please explain the Trinity. | John 1:1 | Brent Douglass | 1732
Brothersalas, Was your question dealt with beyond the one reply attached to it? The reply I saw seemed to be along unorthodox lines with no further reply. Maybe it was handled elsewhere, but I don't want to let it pass without comment, for this is a central issue. There is only one God, but He exists in 3 persons who are in relationship with one another. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit have relationship; they are not merely separate manifestations of one person. In Genesis 1:26-27, God talks to himself relationally in the plural, and yet One God creates. John 1 goes in depth about the concurrent permanent nature of the Word as God (Jesus) and God (the Father). Throughout his earthly ministry, the Son prays interactively with the Father and is confirmed through the physical descent of the Spirit ( ex. Jn 1:33) in every Gospel account of Jesus's baptism. God is One in essence, yet there is relationship WITHIN the Godhead. Members of the 3 persons consistently appear concurrently and interactively. Regardless of the terminology used, this is the essence of the Trinity concept; I suggest a study of the Gospels specifically asking the question throughout, "How does the Son interact with the Father and the Spirit?" This will bring out the concept of the Trinity. Although this inner relationship in the One God works is not fully understandable, it is clearly portrayed over and over in the Gospels. God was NOT first the Father, THEN the Son on earth, THEN the Spirit in believers after his resurrection. This is heretical. Every Gospel shows concurrent appearance, interaction and relationship among the Members of the One Godhead. |

41547 | Point of No Return | Revelation | TerryM | 1725
There is a belief that there will be a point of no return in the end times. A time when those unbelievers will want to come to God and He will harden His heart. I thought this only referred to those took the mark of the beast. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? |

41548 | Salvation in other religions? | John 14:6 | TruthSeeker | 1717
I'm not up-to-date on the other religions so please forgive my ignorance but do the other religions also teach a salvation story? I know one of them teaches that if you do good, you'll be reincarnated to a higher level - whatever that means. I assume there must be a final "salvation" level they strive to attain. I know we are told to go make disciples of all peoples but when I try to look at it in reverse and if a Hindu (or whaterver) came up to me and told me their way was the only true path, I would find it hard to believe. Mostly because I was brought up in a Christian environment and have studied the bible and believe what it says. I assume that the Hindu would also find it hard to accept Jesus because of how they have been raised and come to believe through their own studies of their "bible". Couldn't it be possible that God is much bigger than we imagine and have provided multiple paths to Heaven - or maybe different Heavens based on what the individual believes? I base this thought mostly on our Bible teaching that God is a loving God and we are told many times to love God and each other. |

41553 | 3 gifts, or less? | Eph 4:11 | charis | 1687
Dear RCSCROLL, I am afraid that I don't understand your point. I am not thinking of superceding the Apostles to the Lamb, but continuing their ministry. In any case you have not explained to me when these gifts were rescinded. I have used scripture to prove that there were more than 12 apostles, and that Paul clearly spoke of the gifts in the present-tense. Even the original 12 disciples did not heal 'all' on a 24-7 basis, only according to the faith of the recipient. Prophets proclaim the word of God, bu they are not soothsayers, per se. Sometimes the future is spoken, but not always. Jeremiah 23 speaks of false prophets. They have been around since way back, and will continue to be around until the return of the Lord Jesus. Since the above scripture describes 5 gifts, and you have tried to do away with 2 of them, are the others invalid, too? With respect in Christ Jesus. |

41554 | Is prophecy dead? Since when? | Matt 11:13 | charis | 1683
Dear Whyndell, (PROPHET.) "One who is divinely inspired to communicate God's will to His people and to disclose the future to them." (New Unger's Bible Dictionary) I am sorry, I did not make part of my question clear. The scripture from Matthew 11 is talking about John the Baptist. Some use this as a proof that prophets and prophecy were invalidated after John (the Baptist) died. My point was that AFTER John (the Baptist) died, Jesus continued to prophesy, John (the apostle) continued to prophecy, Paul spoke of prophecy in the present tense, and "Judas and Silas, also being prophets themselves, encouraged and strengthened the brethren with a lengthy message." Acts 15:32 NASB. If prophecy is dead, when did it die? It seems that you have a problem with those who believe in the present-day validity of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Or , more correctly, certain gifts. It also seems that your judgment is based on the abuse you have seen. This is flawed logic. "I have not met a balanced Charismatic, so there are no balanced Charismatics." By the way, I am not Charismatic. Period. I am not Pentecostal, either. Your 'facts' are bigotry. Also, the first widely documented restoration of the gifts of the Holy Spirit was in Wales over 100 years ago. Soon after, the Pentecostal movement started in the United States. Please answer the question using scripture, not sentiment. Blessings in Christ Jesus. |

41557 | Does Jude 1:17 answer Eph 4:11? | Eph 4:11 | kalos | 1676
Jude 1:17 proves that the 'pneumatika', spritual gifts, ceased at some point in the past? I hardly think so. Quoting Jude 1:17 to prove this point is really stretching things a bit, don't you think? Why do people quote 1-2 lines of Scripture followed by 20 lines of "reasoning" to make their point? Is there no clear verse of Scripture that answers Charis' question?

41560 | Yes, but Is Easter of pagan origin? | NT general Archive 1 | kalos | 1658
My sincere thanks for your answer. Can you support your answer with either Scriptural or historical references? Generally, I sort of agree with you. Nowhere in the Bible are we commanded to remember the birth of Jesus (Christmas). But we are definitely commanded to remember his death and resurrection (Easter). However, this alone doesn't answer the questions, "Is Easter derived from a Pagan celebration? What is the historical origin of Easter?" Surely the Bible makes no mention of bunny rabbits, Easter eggs, Easter egg baskets and hunts, Ft. Lauderdale, chocolate candy, etc.
