41283 | marriages begun in adultery blessed??? | Matt 12:31 | Nhymnprayr | 3001
I would like to know what the Bible has to say about remarriage when the two people were in adultery and caused the break up the first marriage and the woman also became pregnant while the man was still married, the two that were committing adultery were supposedly Christians, they are now married and have a child concieved out of adultery and caused the former wife untold grief. If God is a loving caring God why does it seem that the faithful wife has been left alone while the ex husband seemingly has a new wife new child new home and doing quite well, what does the bible have to say about this?
41284 | Women and hair | 1 Cor 11:5 | jesustheanswer | 2988
I believe in women ministering in the gifts fully, there are plenty of examples in both old and new Testaments(in Christ there is neither greek or jew, male or female) but I don't understand this verse or the one about women keeping silent in churches (1 Cor 14:34). These passages don't seem to fit in with other Scripture. Is it culture or commandment or something else?
41285 | What does "world" mean? | John 17:11 | reformedreader | 2987
Thanks Mark, I would, if you don't mind, like a further explanation as to how the term "kosmos" (referring to that of order as opposed to chaos) suddenly changes meaning and refers to human beings in John 3:16. Also, if, as you say, Christ died for mankind in general, does that mean "not specifically"? John 10:11 says Jesus laid down His life for the sheep. If that is true, then mankind in general would be His sheep. 10:27 says Christ's sheep hear His voice and they follow Him. This obviously refers to salvation since verse 28 says Christ gives those for whom He died eternal life. If then, Jesus died for all mankind, and all mankind are His sheep, then all mankind hear His voice and follow Him. Is that true of all mankind? And if so, why are some of mankind in hell? 41289 | Can a deacon drink wine with dinner? | 1 Tim 3:3 | rwash | 2960
Ref. Romans 14 Jesus and Paul repeatedly direct us to love God and love each other as ourselves. All of the Law and the Prophets are summed up in these two commands. By grace are we saved lest anyone should boast. Paul says we have freedom in Christ and that those who are trying to earn favor with God by "keeping the law" are wasting their time. "Keeping the law" to most of us is the modern day equivalent of "don't drink, don't dance and don't smoke, etc." Romans 14 says we are to keep our interpretation of "freedom in Christ" between ourselves and God, however, we are not to do anything that would cause our brother to stumble. If a deacon or elder, or pastor for that matter, desires to have a glass of wine with dinner for the culinary experience, should he or she be able to do this in moderation in his own home without guilt? And without having to explain to those who are "weak"(still seeking to obey the law in order to find favor with God - Rom. 14:1) in a deacons accountability group. Is a church within Christ's teaching to ask a deacon to abstain from every type alcohol, even in the privacy of his own home if he does not act in any way to cause his or her "brother" to stumble. All of our deacons are screened to meet the requirements for deacons and elders in I Tim. 3. Tithing and abstinence from alcohol are the two issues that are church requirements but not New Testament requirements. What say the Lochman Foundation? |

41290 | Could there be a greater calling? | Acts 22:14 | Goldengirl | 3066
Shortly after my husband was baptized with water, he began to hear the Lord speak to him more than just in his heart, he began to hear Him speak audibly. He was called into the singing ministry. On several other occasions has heard God call his name. Is it possible that by God speaking to him audibly, He may have a greater calling on his life other than singing?

41294 | History of eternal suffering doctrine? | Matt 10:28 | Brent Douglass | 2919
Thanks, JVH0212. This is a question that has puzzled me for some time; it came up in another thread, and I thought this would be a great chance to get some further input. The eternality of the soul appears to be a fundamental belief among many orthodox Christian teachers and is often mentioned as an understood fact as part of the central message of the Good News itself. Does anyone know the history of this doctrine -- when, where and-or how it began; and how it came to have such an assumed part in the presentation of the Gospel? |

41298 | Fellowship? Am I in or out? | 1 John 1:9 | Lifer1J511 | 2910
Thanks for your help. Please humor one more question. What are the consequences for Christians who are 'out of fellowship' with God? I know it seems that I'm asking alot of questions that almost seem to say, "How much can I get away with?" But, I'm not trying to imply that. I don't believe we should sin so that grace may super-abound. What I need to know, and I don't think I'm the only one, is, 'Where do I stand with God?' If I've accepted the gospel that Christ died to take away my sins, and that He now resides in me living His life through me, then where do I stand? You been gracious enough to answer that, in Christ, I AM forgiven. Can I be in and out of fellowship, too? Other than 1 John, is there any other N.T. writings that deal with Christians being out of fellowship with God - what the consequences are, and what the remedy is? Thank you.

41300 | Where is the message found? | 1 John 1:9 | Lifer1J511 | 2906
Thank you, Sam. That does help. Other than scripture itself, do you know of any other resources that I might be able to use to help others like me with this question? Every time our church has communion we are expected to sit quietly and confess all our sins to God in order to be forgiven and stay in fellowship with God. Plus, it keeps God from striking us dead for taking communion unworthily (with unconfessed sin). But then our pastor will turn right around and preach to unbelievers that all our sins are paid for at Calvary. I have spent 30 years of my life keeping short (and not-so-short) accounts with God, trying to stay in fellowship with Him. But, on the way home from church, a careless driver cuts me off and 'Raca' is the first thing out of my mouth. Suddenly, I'm out of fellowship with God again and I can't always pull over to stop and pray for God to forgive me. Then I'm haunted by 'What if I die in this car on the way home with unconfessed sin?' 1 John 1:9 has been my 'thorn in the flesh' for a long time but I know it's God's Word and that it's inspired. Thanks again for all your help. Want to be my new pastor (ha ha)? |
