41244 | Are Catholics saved because of religion? | Eph 2:8 | 3209
Are Catholics saved? My room mate is a very religious person, but I know that Jesus spoke against this to the Pharasies. I asked her if she had a personal relationship with Jesus and she hesitated. I told her that I would pray for her salvation, because when you are saved you know it. Thanks .

41246 | Women under male authority ??? | 1 Tim 2:12 | Aussie Janet | 3195
Now as to women teaching in the church....Joyce comes under the authority of her husband and I assume a pastor of a local church (which I assume approves of her ministry). Marilyn Hickey comes under the authority of her husband who is a Pastor of a Church...and Gloria comes under the authority of her husband also who is a Pastor/teacher/leader. So even though these women teach OVER men in church/meetings/crusades etc are they not still under biblical authority and able to teach as such.....???
41247 | Protestantism challenged? | Matt 18:17 | reformedreader | 3188
jim, It seems as though you have the basic principle and practice correctly, however, what you stated is not always as simple as it sounds. Having ought against a brother could involve many things of which disfellowship is not an option. Since you are being general in your statement, my response can only be general also. Don't forget that we are to still love and forgive those who have wronged us. Can you reconcile forgiving and disfellowshipping at the same time? I think that will be difficult while remaing biblically accurate in your assesment. Also, I still don't understand how this challenges Protestantism. Could you be a little more specific in that regard? Sam Hughey |

41248 | Please consider Jn 3:5 water and Spirit | 1 Pet 3:21 | jim | 3187
Do we need to be baptized to be saved? those who hunger and thirst will fine the answer. Jesus told Nicodemus in Jn 3:5 you must be born again to enter the kingdom, not only by water but by the Spirit. this was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost we can debate this until Jesus comes I know we must have faith and grace also but we must obey. yours in Christ Jim

41250 | The Rapture, when will it be? | Bible general Archive 1 | reformedreader | 3179
LVDTHELORD, With all due respect, this statement is not correct. Dispensationalism may want to insert a gap in this prophecy but scripture does not. Nothing in these verses, including Daniel speaks of any gap. We do not have authority to create gaps or break down a whole period of time into lesser periods of time and say it is biblical unless scripture itself is crystal clear on this matter. Now, if anyone can show the gap without "assuming" it, then I will accept it as biblical authority. Is that fair? Sam Hughey |

41251 | What does "world" mean? | John 17:11 | reformedreader | 3173
HeirofGod, Thanks for the response. I don't want to misunderstand anything you are stating, so please correct me if I am wrong. I'm assuming your conclusion is that in John 3:16, the word "world" should be interpreted as "all humans without exception" and this would refer to all humans from Adam until the end of the world and would include every soul in the grave (or hell) at this time and every human ever mentioned in scripture. Is that correct? Sam Hughey |

41255 | Adultery Sexual or Covenant Breaking | NT general Archive 1 | PiRaTe | 3176
Recently I was approached by some people who presented an intriguing argument regarding adultery. These people stated that adultery, more fully understood Biblically is the willful and harmful violation(adulteration) of the primary, the permanence, and the honesty of the marriage. Thus, some extramarital relationships that involve no physical sexual expression whatever can be adultterous. On the other hand, extramarital sexuality with the active participation of both spouses that is marriage enhancing many not be adulteress at all. They state, that the Jews understood, "Thou shalt not commit adultery" very differently than Church tradition. It onely applied to men if they had intercourse with someone else's wife. Bit iwas allowable for a married man to have intercourse with a single woman. Adultery was the sin of "of trespassing" on a man's property. Until marriage, women were the property of their fathers. after marriage they became the property of their husband. In addition, these people state that Christ's laws of love and the golden rule support today's loving, respecting, non-monogamous relationships. The only real difference is that women now have the same rights of sexual enjoyment and variety that men had in the time of Christ Since Christ never condemned the unloving O.T. practices, he certainly wouldn't condemn today's loving, consenting, non-cheating relationships, Cheating adultery is cleary wrong since it involves lying and deception and clearly violates Christ's law of loving one another as ourselves. Therefore, their position is that in a marital-covanent relationship, if both husband and wife agree to these relationships, there is no adultery since the covanent is not broken. These folks are the most committed and caring Christians I have ever known and at the same time they challenge everything that the church has taught and the context of the words pornea, translated as fornication. It does seem to be always tied with temple prostitution when I read the texts. I would greatly appreciate other views as I study and test these thoughts against the orginal languages. Thanks |

41256 | You shall not Murder, then told too?? | OT general | TShea | 3182
EX20:13 You shall not murder. A command from God. Then the people get out of control in Ex 32:27 He said to them, "Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.' " Question is Why would God Say not to Murder then turn around and tell them too? |

41257 | No more Israel? | John 14:6 | charis | 3158
Dear Sgt_Z_Squad, Yes, friend, I did look at the Bible. Yes, that is what Hebrews 8:8 says, but nobody is sure that Paul wrote the book of Hebrews. Yes, in the New Testamant, Jesus speaks in the context of the kingdom of God, that the gate is small, and the way narrow. However, when God makes an everlasting covenant, I still suspect that He means what He says. Your analogy is interesting, but could it not be that the sign says, "Old bridge ahead, but new (better) bridge turn toward Jesus."(?) If the Lord God made a bridge, it would last an eternity. My fellow saint, you seem to have made up your mind on this issue. By the way, does it not seem to you that Israel plays some part in the end-time? Are all those references pre-New Testament Israel, or 'spiritual Israel,' the church of Christ? I do not find an absolute answer on this one, so I give it to God. When I meet Him, I'm sure He will make everything clear. In the meantime, when I meet a Jew (not many in Japan :-), I will tell him there is a better covenant in the Lord Jesus Christ. Love in Jesus' name, charis |
