Bible Question:
1 Cor 8 For verse 13, was it the end of Paul's teaching concerning our careful use of freedom for the sake of not stumbling a weak brother (sister)? I think there are cases in modern days (even in church) that the weaknesses are caused by irrationality, non-sensibility or ignorance. Are there any parallel discussion (with reference to Ch 8) in Paul's letter mentioning that we are also responsible for helping the weak brother/sister to grow? (In verse 13, Paul said : ... I will NEVER eat ... - NIV). So, if a certain weakness sounds really unreasonable but risks the possibility of causing a brother/sister to stumble, do we have to really give up the specific freedom of action FOREVER? |
Bible Answer: Didn't Paul also stipulate in Romans 15:1-2 that we, the stronger brother, ought to bear the scrupoes of the weak? Is this not done out of love for the weaker brother? Are we not oblligated to watch our walk as to not to cause the weaker brother to stumble? And if it means giving up a few freedoms that we may find harmless within ourselves, is it not worth it (At least according to 1 Cor. 15:58) |
