Bible Question: Why does Jesus speak in third person at first then change His voice to 1st prson a couple verses later? |
Bible Answer: John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. A mark of divine utterance. The fact that this would be recorded and that we might preach it to all the world is a good reason to have spoken in this manner. Now we may say "It is written..this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." The beauty and perfection of the wording of this prayer of John 17 reveals the divine inspiration of the writing. |
