Bible Question:
if i'm not sure if i'm worshipping in spirit and in truth.... example - the song with lyrics 'though none go with me, still i'll follow' can i still sing this song during worship service? |
Bible Answer: Word study ... proskuneo, pneuma, aletheia ... ldi, greetings. I do hear/see people sing words without meaning what they say, I take it you do. I've sang these words in church, meaning it. The Scripture I think you have in mind is John 4:23-24. Proskuneo is the Greek word, translated worship, meaning to kiss the hand to (towards) one, in token of reverence ... fall upon the knees and touch the ground with the forehead as an expression of profound reverence ... kneeling or prostration to do homage (to one) or make obeisance, whether in order to express respect or to make supplication. Notice the position. It is seen in each scene of heaven in Revelation ... 22 uses. This fits with "But an hour is coming." It is not just being phyiscally on our knees, but in out hearts and souls, else it is an empty action. Shall we practice? He also said "and now is" ... the word is used 25 times in the Gospels (13 in Matthew). In between we have forgotten to get onour knees as we worship (only 7 other uses in the NT). Shall we get on our knees, in worship? In spirit and in truth does not say or mean "in the Spirit and the truth" ... if anyone says that, they are adding words to the Bible. It says "spirit and truth". Pneuma is the Greek word for spirit. We see in this passage "God is spirit" Aletheia is the Greek word for truth. John 17:17 says "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth" ... Therefore, I see that we are to worship in God and the His word, which I believe is the Bible. Which means I am to worship God, alone (Matt 4:10) accorsding the Bible, when Jesus quoted this passage to Satan. I do hear/see people sing words without meaning what they say, they also can just go thru the motions of bowing low. Searcher |
