In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, ^aAhaz the son of Jotham, king of Judah, became king. 2 ^aAhaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned for sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the LORD his God, as his father David had done. 3 But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, ^aand he even made his son pass through the fire, ^bin accordance with the abominations of the nations whom the LORD had ¹driven out before the sons of Israel. 4 And he ^asacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.

5 Then ^aRezin the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem for war; and they besieged Ahaz, ^bbut ¹were not capable of fighting him. 6 At that time Rezin king of Aram restored ^aElath to Aram, and drove the Judeans away from ¹Elath; and the ²Arameans came to Elath and have lived there to this day.

7 ^aSo Ahaz sent messengers to ^bTiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son; come up and save me from the ¹hand of the king of Aram, and from the ²hand of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me.” 8 And ^aAhaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and sent a gift to the king of Assyria. 9 ^aSo the king of Assyria listened to him; and the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and ^bcaptured it, and led the people of it into exile to ^cKir, and put Rezin to death.

10 Now King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet ^aTiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he saw the altar which was at Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to ^bUrijah the priest the ¹pattern of the altar and its model, according to all its workmanship. 11 So Urijah the priest built an altar; according to everything that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, in that way Urijah the priest made it, ¹before the coming of King Ahaz from Damascus. 12 And when the king came from Damascus, the king saw the altar; then ^athe king approached the altar and ¹went up to it, 13 and ¹burned his burnt offering and his meal offering, and poured out his ²drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 14 And ^athe bronze altar, which was before the LORD, ¹he brought from the front of the house, from between ^bhis altar and the house of the LORD, and he put it on the north side of his altar. 15 Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “Upon the great altar ¹burn ^athe morning burnt offering, the evening meal offering, the king’s burnt offering and his meal offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their meal offering, and their ²drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. But ^bthe bronze altar shall be for me, for making inquiries.” 16 So Urijah the priest acted in accordance with everything that King Ahaz commanded.

17 Then King Ahaz ^acut off the borders of the stands, and removed the wash basin from them; he also ^btook down the ¹Sea from the bronze oxen which were under it and put it on a pavement of stone. 18 And the covered way for the Sabbath which they had built in the house, and the outer entry of the king, he removed from the house of the LORD because of the king of Assyria.

19 Now as for the rest of the acts of Ahaz which he did, are they not written ^ain the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 20 So ^aAhaz ¹lay down with his fathers, and ^bwas buried with his fathers in the city of David; and his son Hezekiah reigned in his place.

5 Then ^aRezin the king of Aram (Syria) and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to wage war. They besieged Ahaz, ^bbut could not overcome and conquer him. 6 At that time Rezin king of Aram recovered ^1aElath in Edom for Aram, and drove the Jews away from it. The Arameans came to Elath, and live there to this day.

7 ^aSo Ahaz sent messengers to ^bTiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and son. Come up and rescue me from the hand of the kings of Aram and of Israel, who are rising up against me.” 8 And ^aAhaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king’s house, and sent a gift to the king of Assyria. 9 So the ^aking of Assyria listened to him; and he went up against Damascus and ^bcaptured it, and carried its people away into exile to ^cKir, and put Rezin king of Aram to death.

10 Now King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet ^aTiglath-pileser the king of Assyria, and saw the pagan altar which was at Damascus. Then King Ahaz sent a model of the altar to ^bUrijah the priest along with a detailed pattern for all its construction. 11 So Urijah the priest built an altar; in accordance with everything that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, that is how Urijah the priest made it before King Ahaz returned from Damascus. 12 When the king came from Damascus, he saw the altar; then the king approached the altar and ^aoffered sacrifices on it, 13 and burned his burnt offering and his grain offering, and poured out his drink offering, and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 14 ^aHe brought the bronze altar, which was before the LORD, from the front of the house (temple) , from between ^bthe new altar and the house of the LORD, and put it on the north side of the new altar. 15 Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “Upon the great new altar, burn ^athe morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their grain offering and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on the new altar all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. But ^bthe old bronze altar shall be kept for me to use to ¹examine the sacrifices.” 16 Urijah the priest acted in accordance with everything that King Ahaz commanded.

17 Then King Ahaz ^acut away the frames of the basin stands in the temple, and removed the basin from each of them; and he ^btook down the large Sea from the bronze oxen which were under it, and put it on a plastered stone floor. 18 He removed from the house of the LORD the covered way for the Sabbath which they had built in the house, and the outer entrance of the king, because of the king of Assyria who might confiscate them.

19 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaz, are they not written ^ain the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 20 ^aSo Ahaz slept with his fathers in death and ^bwas buried with his fathers in the City of David; and his son Hezekiah became king in his place.

10 Now King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet ^aTiglath-pileser king of Assyria and saw the altar which was at Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to ^bUrijah the priest the likeness of the altar and its pattern, according to all its workmanship. 11 So Urijah the priest built an altar; according to all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, thus Urijah the priest made it, ¹before the coming of King Ahaz from Damascus. 12 So the king came from Damascus, and the king saw the altar; then ^athe king drew near the altar and ¹made offerings on it, 13 and offered his burnt offering and his meal offering up in smoke, and poured his drink offering and splashed the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 14 ^aNow as for the bronze altar, which was before Yahweh, ¹he drew it away from the front of the house, from between ^bhis altar and the house of Yahweh, and he put it on the north side of his altar. 15 Then King Ahaz ¹commanded Urijah the priest, saying, “Upon the great altar offer up in smoke ^athe morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering and the king’s burnt offering and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land and their grain offering and their drink offerings; and splash on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. But ^bthe bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by.” 16 So Urijah the priest did according to all that King Ahaz commanded.
