Jesus ^aentered Jericho and was passing through. 2 And ¹there was a man called by the name of Zaccheus; he was a chief tax collector and he was rich. 3 Zaccheus was trying to see who Jesus was, and he was unable due to the crowd, because he was short in stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up a ^1asycamore tree in order to see Him, because He was about to pass through that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and said to him, “Zaccheus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.” 6 And he hurried and came down, and received Him ¹joyfully. 7 When the people saw this, they all began to complain, saying, “He has gone in ¹to be the guest of a man who is a sinner!” 8 But Zaccheus stopped and said to ^athe Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I am giving to the poor, and if I have ^bextorted anything from anyone, I am giving back ^cfour times as much.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is ^aa son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

11 Now while they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because ^aHe was near Jerusalem and they thought that ^bthe kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. 12 So He said, “^aA nobleman went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself, and then to return. 13 And he called ten of his own slaves and gave them ten ¹minas, and said to them, ‘Do business with this money ²until I come back.’ 14 But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ 15 When he returned after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these slaves, to whom he had given the money, be summoned to him so that he would learn how much they had made by the business they had done. 16 The first slave appeared, saying, ‘¹Master, your ²mina has made ten minas more.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good slave; since you have been ^afaithful in a very little thing, you are to have authority over ten cities.’ 18 The second one came, saying, ‘Your ¹mina, ²master, has made five minas.’ 19 And he said to him also, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ 20 And then another came, saying, ‘Master, here is your mina, which I kept tucked away in a handkerchief; 21 for I was afraid of you, because you are a demanding man; you take up what you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.’ 22 He *said to him, ‘¹From your own lips I will judge you, you worthless slave. Did you know that I am a demanding man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow? 23 And so why did you not put my money in the bank, and when I came back, I would have collected it with interest?’ 24 And then he said to the other slaves who were present, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25 And they said to him, ‘Master, he already has ten minas.’ 26 ‘^aI tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 27 But as for ^athese enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and ^bslaughter them in my presence.’”

28 After Jesus said these things, He ^awas going on ahead, ^bgoing up to Jerusalem.

29 ^aWhen He approached Bethphage and ^bBethany, near the ¹mountain that is called ^cOlivet, He sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, “Go into the village ¹ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied, on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘¹The Lord has need of it.’” 32 So those who were sent left and found it just as He had told them. 33 And as they were untying the colt, its ¹owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “¹The Lord has need of it.” 35 And they brought it to Jesus, ^aand they threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 Now as He was going, they were spreading their cloaks on the road. 37 And as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of ^athe Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to ^bpraise God ¹joyfully with a loud voice for all the ²miracles which they had seen, 38 ¹shouting:“^aBLESSED IS the ^bKing, THE ONE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD;Peace in heaven and ^cglory in the highest!” 39 ^aAnd yet some of the Pharisees ¹in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples!” 40 Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these stop speaking, ^athe stones will cry out!”

41 When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and ^awept over it, 42 saying, “If you had known on this day, even you, the conditions for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you ¹when your enemies will ^aput up a ²barricade against you, and ^bsurround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground, and throw down your children within you, and ^athey will not leave in you one stone upon ¹another, because you did not recognize ^bthe time of your visitation.”

45 ^aAnd Jesus entered the temple grounds and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, “It is written: ‘^aAND MY HOUSE WILL BE A HOUSE OF PRAYER,’ ^bbut you have made it a DEN OF ROBBERS.”

47 And ^aHe was teaching daily in the temple; but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people ^bwere trying to put Him to death, 48 and yet they could not find ¹anything that they might do, for all the people were hanging on to ²every word He said.

Did you know that I am a strict man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank, and having come, I would have collected it with interest?’ 24 Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25 And they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas already.’ 26 ‘^aI tell you that to everyone who has, more shall be given, but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. 27 But ^athese enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and ^bslay them in my presence.’”

28 And after He had said these things, He ^awas going on ahead, ^bgoing up to Jerusalem.

41 And as He approached Jerusalem and saw the city, He ^acried over it, 42 saying, “If you knew in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For the days will come upon you ¹when your enemies will ^athrow up a ²barricade against you, and ^bsurround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and ^athey will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not ¹recognize ^bthe time of your visitation.”

45 ^aAnd Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling, 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘^aAND MY HOUSE SHALL BE A HOUSE OF PRAYER,’ ^bbut you have made it a ROBBERS’ ¹DEN.”

47 And ^aHe was teaching daily in the temple, but the chief priests and the scribes and the leading men among the people ^bwere trying to destroy Him, 48 and they could not find ¹anything that they might do, for all the people hung upon ²every word He said.

11 While they were listening to these things, Jesus went on to tell a parable, because ^aHe was near Jerusalem, and they assumed that ^bthe kingdom of God was going to appear immediately as soon as He reached the city. 12 So He said, “^aA nobleman went to a distant country to obtain for himself a kingdom, and then to return. 13 So he called ten of his servants, and gave them ten minas one apiece, each equal to about a hundred days’ wages and said to them, ‘Do business with this until I return.’ 14 But his citizens the residents of his new kingdom hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to be a king over us.’ 15 When he returned, after receiving the kingdom, he ordered that these servants, to whom he had given the money, be called to him, that he might find out what business they had done. 16 The first one came before him and said, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten more minas.’ 17 And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you proved yourself ^afaithful and trustworthy in a very little thing, you shall now have authority over ten cities in my kingdom.’ 18 The second one came and said, ‘Lord, your mina has made five minas.’ 19 And he said to him also, ‘And you shall take charge over five cities.’ 20 Then another came and said, ‘Lord, here is your mina, which I have kept laid up in a handkerchief for safekeeping. 21 I was always afraid of you, because you are a stern man; you pick up what you did not lay down and you reap what you did not sow.’ 22 He said to the servant, ‘I will judge and condemn you by your own words, you worthless servant! Did you really know that I was a stern man, picking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow? 23 Then why did you not at the very least put my money in a bank? Then on my return, I would have collected it with interest.’ 24 Then he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ 25 And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas already!’ 26 Jesus explained, ‘^aI tell you that to everyone who has because he valued his gifts from God and has used them wisely, more will be given; but from the one who does not have because he disregarded his gifts from God, even what he has will be taken away.’ 27 The king ended by saying, ‘But as for ^athese enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them, bring them here and ^bkill them in my presence.’”

28 After saying these things, Jesus ^awent on ahead of them, ^bgoing up to Jerusalem.

29 ^aWhen He approached Bethphage and ^bBethany, at the mount that is called ^cOlivet, He sent two of the disciples, Matt 21:1-9; Mark 11:1-10; John 12:12-15 30 saying, “Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a donkey’s ¹colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anybody asks you, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ you will say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” 32 So those who were sent left and found the colt just as He had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34 They said, “The Lord needs it.” 35 They brought it to Jesus, and ^1athey threw their robes over the colt and put Jesus on it. Zech 9:9 36 As He rode along, people were spreading their coats on the road as an act of homage before a king. 2+@Kin 9:13 37 As soon as He was approaching Jerusalem, near the descent of ^athe Mount of Olives, the entire multitude of the disciples all those who were or claimed to be His followers began ^bpraising God adoring Him enthusiastically and joyfully with loud voices for all the miracles and works of power that they had seen, 38 shouting,“^aBLESSED (celebrated, praised) IS ^bTHE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!Peace in heaven and ^cglory (majesty, splendor) in the highest heaven!” Ps 118:26 39 ^aSome of the Pharisees from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples for shouting these Messianic praises.” 40 Jesus replied, “I tell you, if these people keep silent, ^athe stones will cry out in praise!” Hab 2:11

41 As He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and ^awept over it and the spiritual ignorance of its people, 42 saying, “If only you had known on this day of salvation, even you, the things which make for peace and on which peace depends! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 For a time of siege is coming when your enemies will ^aput up a barricade with pointed stakes against you, and ^bsurround you with armies and hem you in on every side, Is 29:3; Jer 6:6; Ezek 4:2 44 and they will level you to the ground, you Jerusalem and your children within you. ^aThey will not leave in you one stone on another, all because you did not come progressively to recognize from observation and personal experience ^bthe time of your visitation when God was gracious toward you and offered you salvation.”

45 ^aJesus went into the temple enclosure and began driving out those who were selling, Matt 21:12, 13; Mark 11:15-17; John 2:13-16 46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘^aMY HOUSE SHALL BE A HOUSE OF PRAYER’; ^bbut you have made it a ROBBERS’ DEN.” Is 56:7; Jer 7:11

47 ^aHe was teaching day after day in the temple porches and courts; but the chief priests and scribes and the leading men among the people ^bwere seeking a way to put Him to death, 48 and they could not find anything that they could do, for all the people stayed close to Him and were hanging on to ¹every word He said.
