“Now you, son of man, ^aget yourself a brick, place it before you, and inscribe a city on it—Jerusalem. 2 Then ^alay siege against it, build a siege wall, pile up an assault ramp, set up camps, and place battering rams against it all around. 3 Then get yourself an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between yourself and the city, and direct your face toward it so that ^ait is under siege, and besiege it. This will be a ^bsign to the house of Israel.

4 “Then you are to lie down on your left side and put the wrongdoing of the house of Israel on it; you shall ^abear their wrongdoing for the number of days that you lie on it. 5 For I have assigned you a number of days corresponding to the years of their wrongdoing, 390 days; so ^ayou shall bear the wrongdoing of the house of Israel. 6 When you have completed these days, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and bear the wrongdoing of the house of Judah; I have assigned it to you for forty days, a day for ^aeach year. 7 Then you shall direct your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and ^aprophesy against it. 8 Now behold, I will ^aput ropes ¹around you so that you cannot turn from your one side to your other until you have completed the days of your siege.

9 “But as for you, take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and ^aspelt, and put them in one vessel and make them into bread for yourself; you shall eat it according to the number of the days that you lie on your side, 390 days. 10 Your food which you eat shall be ^atwenty shekels a day by weight; you shall eat it from time to time. 11 The water you drink shall be a ¹sixth of a hin by measure; you shall drink it from time to time. 12 You shall eat it as a barley cake, having baked it in their sight over human ^adung.” 13 Then the LORD said, “In this way the sons of Israel will eat their bread ^aunclean among the nations where I will scatter them.” 14 But I said, “^aOh, Lord ¹GOD! Behold, ²I have ^bnever been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what ^cdied of itself or was torn by animals, nor has any ^dunclean meat ever entered my mouth!” 15 Then He said to me, “See, I will give you cow’s dung in place of human dung, so that you may prepare your bread over it.” 16 Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, behold, I am going to ^abreak the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by ^bweight and with anxiety, and drink water by ^cmeasure and in horror, 17 because bread and water will be scarce; and they will tremble with one another and ^awaste away in their guilt.

“Now you, son of man, ^atake a brick, place it before you and inscribe on it a diagram of the city of Jerusalem. 2 Then ^alay siege against it, build a siege wall, raise a ramp against it; set up enemy camps and place battering rams all around it. 3 Further, take an iron plate and place it as an iron wall between you and the city, and set your face toward it so that ^ait is under siege, and besiege it. This is a ^bsign to the house of Israel.

4 “Then lie down on your left side (toward the north) to bear symbolically the wickedness and punishment of the ¹house of Israel. You shall ^abear their wickedness and punishment for the number of days that you lie on your side. 5 For I have assigned you the years of their wickedness and punishment, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days representing three hundred and ninety years; in this way ^ayou shall bear symbolically the wickedness and punishment of the house of Israel. 6 When you have completed these days for Israel, lie down again, but on your right side (toward the south) , and you shall bear the wickedness and punishment of the ¹house of Judah forty days. I have assigned you one day for ^aeach year. 7 Then you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared and ^aprophesy against it. 8 Now behold, I will ^aput ropes on you so that you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have completed the days of your siege.

You shall eat it according to the number of the days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days. 10 The food you eat each day shall be measured by weight, ^1atwenty shekels, to be eaten daily at a set time. 11 You shall drink water by measure also, ¹the sixth part of a hin; you shall drink daily at a set time. 12 You shall eat your food as barley cakes, having baked it in their sight over human ^adung.” 13 Then the LORD said, “Thus the children of Israel will eat their ^abread unclean and defiled among the nations where I will banish them.” Hos 9:3 14 But I said, “^aAh, Lord GOD! Behold (hear me) , I have ^bnever been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what ^cdied on its own or was torn by beasts, nor has any ^dunclean meat ever entered my mouth.” Acts 10:14 15 Then He said to me, “See, I will let you use cow’s dung instead of human dung over which you shall prepare your food.” 16 Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, behold (listen carefully) , I am going to ^abreak the staff of bread that supports life in Jerusalem; and they shall eat bread rationed by ^bweight and eat it with anxiety and fear, and drink water by ^cmeasure and drink it in horror of the impending starvation, Lev 26:26; Ps 105:16; Is 3:1 17 because bread and water will be scarce; and they will look at one another in dismay and ^awaste away in punishment for their wickedness.

Behold, I have ^bnever been defiled; for from my youth until now I have never eaten what ^cdied of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has any ^doffensive meat ever entered my mouth.” 15 Then He said to me, “See, I will set for you cow’s dung in place of human dung over which you will prepare your bread.” 16 Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, behold, I am going to ^abreak the staff of bread in Jerusalem, and they will eat bread by ^bweight and with anxiety, and they will drink water by ^cmeasure and in desolation 17 because bread and water will be lacking; and they will be in desolation with one another and ^arot away in their iniquity.
