In the third year of ^aCyrus king of Persia a ¹message was revealed to ^bDaniel, who was named Belteshazzar; and the ^2cmessage was true and one of great ³conflict, but he understood the ⁴message and had an ^dunderstanding of the vision.

2 In those days, I, Daniel, had been ^amourning for three entire weeks. 3 I ^adid not eat any ¹tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all until the entire three weeks were completed. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, while I was by the bank of the great ^ariver, that is, the ¹Tigris, 5 I lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a certain man ^adressed in linen, whose waist was ^bgirded with a belt of pure ^cgold of Uphaz. 6 His body also was like ¹beryl, his face ²had the appearance of lightning, ^ahis eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and feet like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a ³tumult. 7 Now I, Daniel, ^aalone saw the vision, while the ^bmen who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great ^cdread fell on them, and they ran away to hide themselves. 8 So I was ^aleft alone and saw this great vision; yet ^bno strength was left in me, for my ¹natural color turned to ²a deathly pallor, and I retained no strength. 9 But I heard the sound of his words; and as soon as I heard the sound of his words, I ^afell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face to the ground.

10 Then behold, a hand ^atouched me and set me trembling on my ¹hands and knees. 11 He said to me, “O ^aDaniel, man of ¹high esteem, ^bunderstand the words that I am about to tell you and ^cstand ²upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up ^dtrembling. 12 Then he said to me, “^aDo not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on ^bhumbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response ^cto your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was ¹withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, ^aMichael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to ^agive you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the ^1blatter days, for the vision pertains to ^cthe days yet future.”

15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I ¹turned my face toward the ground and became ^aspeechless. 16 And behold, ^1aone who resembled a human being was ^btouching my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, “O my lord, as a result of the vision ^2canguish has come upon me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For ^ahow can such a servant of my lord talk with such as my lord? As for me, there remains just now ^bno strength in me, nor has any breath been left in me.”

18 Then this one with human appearance touched me again and ^astrengthened me. 19 He said, “O man of ¹high esteem, ^ado not be afraid. Peace ²be with you; take ^bcourage and be courageous!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I received strength and said, “May my lord speak, for you have ^cstrengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you ¹understand why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the ²prince of Persia; so I am going forth, and behold, the ^3aprince of ⁴Greece is about to come. 21 However, I will tell you what is inscribed in the writing of ^atruth. Yet there is no one who ¹stands firmly with me against these forces except ^bMichael your prince.

10 Then behold, a hand ^atouched me and set me shaking on my ¹hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “O ^aDaniel, man of ¹high esteem, ^bunderstand the words that I am about to speak to you and ^cstand ²upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up ^dtrembling. 12 Then he said to me, “^aDo not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you gave your heart to understand this and to ^bhumble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response ^cto your words. 13 But the ¹prince of the kingdom of Persia was ²standing against me for twenty-one days; then behold, ^aMichael, one of the chief princes, came to help me. Now I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to ^agive you an understanding of what will happen to your people in the ^1blast days, for the vision pertains to ^cthe days yet future.” 15 Now when he had spoken to me according to these words, I ¹turned my face toward the ground and became ^aspeechless.

16 And behold, ^aone ¹in the likeness of the sons of men was ^btouching my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, “O my lord, as a result of the vision that appeared, ^cpains have come upon me, and I have retained no might. 17 Now ^ahow can such a servant of my lord talk with such as my lord? As for me, right now ^bno might stands within me, nor does any breath remain within me.”

18 Then this one with the appearance of a man touched me again and ^astrengthened me. 19 And he said, “O man of ¹high esteem, ^ado not be afraid. Peace ²be with you; gather ^bstrength and be strong!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I received strength and said, “May my lord speak, for you have ^cstrengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you know why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the ¹prince of Persia; so I am going forth, and behold, the ^2aprince of ³Greece is about to come. 21 However, I will tell you what is ¹inscribed in the writing of ^atruth. Now there is no one who ²exerts strength with me against these forces except ^bMichael your prince.

10 Then behold, a hand ^atouched me and shook me on my ¹hands and knees. 11 And he said to me, “^aDaniel, ¹you who are treasured, ^bunderstand the words that I am about to tell you and ^cstand at your place, for I have now been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up ^dtrembling. 12 Then he said to me, “^aDo not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on ^bhumbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come ^cin response to your words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing ¹in my way for twenty-one days; then behold, ^aMichael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to ^aexplain to you what will happen to your people in the ^1blatter days, because the vision pertains to ^cthe days still future.”

15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I ¹turned my face toward the ground and became ^aspeechless. 16 And behold, ^1aone who resembled a human was ^btouching my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, “My lord, due to the vision ^2canguish has come upon me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For ^ahow can such a servant of my lord talk with such as my lord? As for me, there remains just now ^bno strength in me, nor has any breath been left in me.”

18 Then this one with human appearance touched me again and ^astrengthened me. 19 And he said, “¹You who are treasured, ^ado not be afraid. Peace be to you; take ^bcourage and be courageous!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I felt strengthened and said, “May my lord speak, for you have ^cstrengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you ¹understand why I came to you? But I shall now return to fight against the prince of Persia; so I am leaving, and behold, the ^aprince of ²Greece is about to come. 21 However, I will tell you what is recorded in the writing of ^atruth. Yet there is no one who ¹stands firmly with me against these forces except ^bMichael your prince.

2 In those days I, Daniel, had been ^amourning for three entire weeks. 3 I ^aate no tasty food, nor did any meat or wine enter my mouth; and I did not ¹anoint (refresh, groom) myself at all for the full three weeks. 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was on the bank of the great ^ariver Hiddekel which is the Tigris, 5 I raised my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a ¹certain man ^adressed in linen, whose loins were ^bgirded with a ²belt of pure ^cgold of Uphaz. 6 His body also was like beryl with a golden luster, his face had the appearance of lightning, ^ahis eyes were like flaming torches, his arms and his feet like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words was like the noise of a multitude of people or the roaring of the sea. Rev 1:12-16; 19:6 7 And I, Daniel, ^aalone saw the vision of this heavenly being, for the ^bmen who were with me did not see the vision; nevertheless, a great ^cpanic overwhelmed them, so they ran away to hide themselves. 8 So I was ^aleft alone and saw this great vision; yet ^bno strength was left in me, for my normal appearance turned to a deathly pale, and I grew weak and faint with fright. 9 Then I heard the sound of his words; and when I heard the sound of his words, I ^afell on my face in a deep sleep, with my face toward the ground.

10 Then behold, a hand ^atouched me and set me unsteadily on my ¹hands and knees. 11 So he said to me, “O ^aDaniel, you highly regarded and greatly beloved man, ^bunderstand the words that I am about to say to you and ^cstand upright, for I have now been sent to you.” And while he was saying this word to me, I stood up ^dtrembling. 12 Then he said to me, “^aDo not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on ^bhumbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response ^cto your words. 13 But the ¹prince of the kingdom of Persia was standing in opposition to me for twenty-one days. Then, behold, ^aMichael, one of the chief of the celestial princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia. 14 Now I have come to ^amake you understand what will happen to your people in the ^blatter days, for the vision is in regard to the ^cdays yet to come.”

15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and was ^aspeechless. 16 And behold, ^aone who resembled the sons of men ^btouched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who was standing before me, “O my lord, because of the vision ^canguish has come upon me, and I have retained no strength. 17 For ^ahow can such a weakened servant of my lord talk with such a being as my lord? For now there remains ^bno strength in me, nor has any breath been left in me.”

18 Then the one (Gabriel) whose appearance was like that of a man touched me again, and he ^astrengthened me. 19 He said, “O man, highly regarded and greatly beloved, ^ado not be afraid. Peace be to you; take ^bcourage and be strong.” Now when he had spoken to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have ^cstrengthened me.” 20 Then he said, “Do you understand fully why I came to you? Now I shall return to fight against the hostile ¹prince of Persia; and when I have gone, behold, the ^2aprince of Greece is about to come. 21 But I (Gabriel) will tell you what is inscribed in the ¹writing of ^atruth. There is no one who stands firmly with me and strengthens himself against these hostile spirit forces except ^bMichael, your prince the guardian of your nation.
