The words of ^aJeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in ^bAnathoth in the land of Benjamin, 2 to whom the word of ¹Yahweh came in the days of ^aJosiah the son of ^bAmon, king of Judah, in the ^cthirteenth year of his reign. 3 And it came in the days of ^aJehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of ^bZedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the exile of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

4 Now the word of Yahweh came to me saying,

9 Then Yahweh sent forth His hand and ^atouched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me,“Behold, I have ^bput My words in your mouth.

11 Now the word of Yahweh came to me saying, “What do you see, ^aJeremiah?” And I said, “I see a rod of an ¹almond tree.” 12 Then Yahweh said to me, “You have seen well, for ^aI am ¹watching over My word to do it.”

13 The word of Yahweh came to me a second time saying, “^aWhat do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling ^bpot, facing away from the north.” 14 Then Yahweh said to me, “^aFrom the north the evil ¹will break open on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, behold, I am calling ^aall the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares Yahweh; “and they will come, and each one of them will ^bput his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the ^ccities of Judah. 16 I will speak My judgments on them concerning all their evil, whereby they have ^aforsaken Me and have ^bburned incense to other gods and worshiped the ^cworks of their own hands. 17 Now, ^agird up your loins and arise and speak to them all which I command you. ^bDo not be dismayed before them, lest I dismay you before them. 18 Now behold, I have given you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests, and to the people of the land. 19 And they will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for ^aI am with you to deliver you,” declares Yahweh.

11 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, “What do you see, ^aJeremiah?” And I said, “I see a branch of an ¹almond tree.” 12 Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for ^aI am ¹watching over My word to perform it.”

13 And the word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, “^aWhat do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling ^bpot, facing away from the north.” 14 Then the LORD said to me, “^aOut of the north the evil ¹will be unleashed on all the inhabitants of the land. 15 For, behold, I am calling ^aall the families of the kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD; “and they will come and ^bplace, each one of them, his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls around, and against all the ^ccities of Judah. 16 And I will ¹pronounce My judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, since they have ^aabandoned Me and have ^2boffered sacrifices to other gods, and worshiped the ^cworks of their own hands. 17 Now, ^abelt your garment around your waist and arise, and speak to them all that I command you. ^bDo not be dismayed before them, or I will make you dismayed before them. 18 Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like a pillar of iron and walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its leaders, to its priests, and to the people of the land. 19 And they will fight against you but they will not overcome you, for ^aI am with you to save you,” declares the LORD.

4 Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

9 Then the LORD stretched out His hand and ^atouched my mouth, and the LORD said to me,“Behold (hear Me) , I have ^bput My words in your mouth.

11 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “^aJeremiah, what do you see?” And I said, “I see the branch of an ¹almond tree.” 12 Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for ^aI am actively watching over My word to fulfill it.”

13 The word of the LORD came to me a second time, saying, “^aWhat do you see?” And I said, “I see a boiling ^bpot, tilting away from the north its mouth about to pour out on the south, on Judea.” 14 Then the LORD said to me, “^aOut of the north the evil which the prophets foretold as the result of national sin will reveal itself and spill out on all the people of the land. 15 For, behold, I will call ^aall the tribes of the kingdoms of the north,” says the LORD; “and they will come and each one will ^bset his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its surrounding walls, and against all the ^ccities of Judah as My judicial act, the consequence of Judah’s deliberate disobedience. 16 I will speak My judgments against them for all the wickedness of those who have ^aabandoned (rejected) Me, ^boffered sacrifices or burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the idolatrous ^cworks of their own hands. 17 But you Jeremiah, ^1agird up your loins in preparation! Get up and tell them all which I command you. ^bDo not be distraught and break down at the sight of their hostile faces, or I will bewilder you before them and allow you to be overcome. 18 Now behold, I have made you today like a fortified city and like an iron pillar and like bronze walls against the whole land—against the successive kings of Judah, against its leaders, against its priests, and against the people of the land giving you divine strength which no hostile power can overcome.
