For the Law, since it has only ^aa shadow of ^bthe good things to come and not the very ¹form of things, ²can ^cnever, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, ^dmake perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have ^aconsciousness of sins? 3 But ^ain ¹those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. 4 For it is ^aimpossible for the ^bblood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 Therefore, ^awhen He comes into the world, He says,“^bSACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED,BUT ^cA BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME;

8 After saying above, “^aSACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND ^bBURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices ^cFOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them” (which are offered according to the Law), 9 then He ¹said, “^aBEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. 10 By ¹this will we have been ^asanctified through ^bthe offering of ^cthe body of Jesus Christ ^donce for all.

11 And every priest stands daily ministering and ^aoffering time after time the same sacrifices, which ^bcan never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice ^afor ¹sins ^bfor all time, ^cSAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, 13 waiting from that time ^aUNTIL HIS ENEMIES ARE PUT AS A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. 14 For by one offering He has ^aperfected ^bfor all time those who are being sanctified. 15 And ^athe Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,

18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.

19 Therefore, brothers, since we ^ahave confidence to ^benter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by ^aa new and living way which He inaugurated for us through ^bthe veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and since we have ^aa great priest ^bover the house of God, 22 let us ^adraw near with a ¹sincere heart in ^bfull assurance of faith, having our hearts ^csprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies ^dwashed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the ^aconfession of our ^bhope without wavering, for ^cHe who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how ^ato stimulate one another to love and ^bgood deeds, 25 not forsaking our own ^aassembling together, as is the habit of some, but ^bencouraging one another, and all the more as you see ^cthe day drawing near.

26 For if we go on ^asinning willfully after receiving ^bthe knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of ^ajudgment and ^bTHE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. 28 ^aAnyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy by the mouth of two or three witnesses. 29 ^aHow much worse punishment do you think he will deserve ^bwho has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as defiled ^cthe blood of the covenant ^dby which he was sanctified, and has ^einsulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “^aVENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “^bTHE ¹LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” 31 It is a ^aterrifying thing to fall into the hands of the ^bliving God.

32 But remember ^athe former days, ¹when, after being ^benlightened, you endured a great ^cconflict of sufferings, 33 partly by being ^amade a public spectacle through reproaches and afflictions, and partly by becoming ^bsharers with those who were so treated. 34 For you also ^ashowed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted with ^bjoy the seizure of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves ^ca better and lasting possession. 35 Therefore, do not throw away that ^aconfidence of yours, which has a great ^breward. 36 For you have need of ^aendurance, so that when you have ^bdone the will of God, you may ^creceive the promise.

39 But ¹we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the ²preserving of the soul.

For since the Law has only ^aa shadow just a pale representation of ^bthe good things to come—not the very image of those things—it can ^cnever, by offering the same sacrifices continually year after year, ^dmake ¹perfect those who approach its altars. 2 For if it were otherwise, would not these sacrifices have stopped being offered? For the worshipers, having once for all time been cleansed, would no longer have a ^aconsciousness of sin. 3 But as it is ^athese continual sacrifices bring a fresh reminder of sins to be atoned for year after year, 4 for it is ^aimpossible for the ^bblood of bulls and goats to take away sins. 5 Therefore, ^awhen Christ enters into the world, He says,“^bSACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED,BUT instead YOU HAVE PREPARED ^cA BODY FOR ME to offer;

8 After saying in the citation above, “YOU HAVE NEITHER DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN DELIGHT IN ^aSACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND ^bWHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR ^cSIN” (which are offered according to the Law) 9 then He said, “^aBEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL.” And so He does away with the first covenant as a means of atoning for sin based on animal sacrifices so that He may inaugurate and establish the second covenant by means of obedience. Ps 40:6-8 10 And in accordance with this will of God we who believe in the message of salvation have been ^asanctified that is, set apart as holy for God and His purposes through ^bthe offering of ^cthe body of Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) ^donce for all.

11 Every priest stands at his altar of service ministering daily, ^aoffering the same sacrifices over and over, which ^bare never able ¹to strip away sins that envelop and cover us; 12 whereas Christ, having offered the one sacrifice the all-sufficient sacrifice of Himself ^afor sins ^bfor all time, ^cSAT DOWN signifying the completion of atonement for sin AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD the position of honor, 13 waiting from that time onward ^aUNTIL HIS ENEMIES ARE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. Ps 110:1 14 For by the one offering He has ^aperfected ^bforever and completely cleansed those who are being sanctified bringing each believer to spiritual completion and maturity. 15 And ^athe Holy Spirit also adds His testimony to us in confirmation of this; for after having said,

18 Now where there is absolute forgiveness and complete cancellation of the penalty of these things, there is no longer any offering to be made to atone for sin.

19 Therefore, ¹believers, since we ^ahave confidence and full freedom to ^benter the Holy Place the place where God dwells by means of the blood of Jesus, 20 by ^athis new and living way which He initiated and opened for us through ^bthe veil as in the Holy of Holies, that is, through His flesh, 21 and since we have ^aa great and wonderful Priest Who rules ^bover the house of God, 22 let us ^aapproach God with a true and sincere heart in ^bunqualified assurance of faith, having had our hearts ^csprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies ^dwashed with pure water. 23 Let us seize and hold tightly the ^aconfession of our ^bhope without wavering, for ^cHe who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful to His word; 24 and let us consider thoughtfully how we may ^aencourage one another to love and to do ^bgood deeds, 25 not forsaking our ^ameeting together as believers for worship and instruction, as is the habit of some, but ^bencouraging one another; and all the more faithfully as you see ^cthe day of Christ’s return approaching.

26 For if we go on ^awillfully and deliberately sinning after receiving ^bthe knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice to atone for our sins that is, no further offering to anticipate, 27 but a kind of awful and terrifying expectation of divine ^ajudgment and ^bTHE FURY OF A FIRE and BURNING WRATH WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES those who put themselves in opposition to God. Is 26:11 28 ^aAnyone who has ignored and set aside the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Deut 17:2-6 29 ^aHow much greater punishment do you think he will deserve ^bwho has rejected and trampled under foot the Son of God, and has considered unclean and common ^cthe blood of the covenant ^dthat ¹sanctified him, and has ^einsulted the Spirit of grace who imparts the unmerited favor and blessing of God? Ex 24:8 30 For we know Him who said, “^aVENGEANCE IS MINE retribution and the deliverance of justice rest with Me, I WILL REPAY the wrongdoer.” And again, “^bTHE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” Deut 32:35, 36 31 It is a ^afearful and terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the ^bliving God incurring His judgment and wrath.

32 But remember ^athe earlier days, when, after being spiritually ^benlightened, you patiently endured a great ^cconflict of sufferings, 33 sometimes by being ^amade a spectacle, publicly exposed to insults and distress, and sometimes by becoming ^bcompanions with those who were so treated. 34 For you showed ^asympathy and deep concern for those who were imprisoned, and you ^bjoyfully accepted the unjust seizure of your belongings and the confiscation of your property, conscious of the fact that you have ^ca better possession and a lasting one prepared for you in heaven. 35 Do not, therefore, fling away your fearless ^aconfidence, for it has a glorious and great ^breward. 36 For you have need of patient ^aendurance to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising, so that when you have ^bcarried out the will of God, you may ^creceive and enjoy to the full what is promised.

39 But ¹our way is not that of those who shrink back to destruction, but we are of those who believe relying on God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Messiah and by this confident faith preserve the soul.
