Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, “Keep the entire commandment which I am commanding you today. 2 ^aSo it will be on the day when you cross the Jordan to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, that you shall set up for yourself large stones and coat them with lime 3 and write on them all the words of this law when you cross over, so that you may enter the land which Yahweh your God gives you, ^aa land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, ¹promised you. 4 So it will be when you cross the Jordan, you shall set up ^aon Mount Ebal, these stones, ¹as I am commanding you today, and you shall coat them with lime. 5 Moreover, you shall build there an altar to Yahweh your God, an altar of stones; you ^ashall not ¹wield an iron tool on them. 6 You shall build the altar of Yahweh your God of ¹uncut stones, and you shall offer on it burnt offerings to Yahweh your God; 7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and eat there and ^abe glad before Yahweh your God. 8 And you shall write on the ¹stones all the words of this law very distinctly.”

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel, saying, “Be silent and listen, O Israel! This day you have become a people for Yahweh your God. 10 You shall therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and do His commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today.”

11 Moses also commanded the people on that day, saying, 12 “When you cross the Jordan, these shall stand on ^aMount Gerizim to bless the people: ^bSimeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 For the curse, these shall stand on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 The Levites shall then answer and say to all the men of Israel with a loud voice,

15 ‘Cursed is the man who makes ^aa graven image or a molten image, an abomination to Yahweh, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And ^ball the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’

16 ‘^aCursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

17 ‘^aCursed is he who moves his neighbor’s boundary mark.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

18 ‘^aCursed is he who leads a blind person astray on the road.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

19 ‘^aCursed is he who perverts the justice due a sojourner, ¹orphan, and widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

20 ‘^aCursed is he who lies with his father’s wife because he has uncovered his father’s skirt.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

21 ‘^aCursed is he who lies with any animal.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

22 ‘^aCursed is he who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

23 ‘^aCursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

24 ‘^aCursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

25 ‘^aCursed is he who takes a bribe to strike down ¹innocent blood.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

26 ‘^aCursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel, saying, “Be silent and listen, Israel! This day you have become a people for the LORD your God. 10 So you shall ¹obey the LORD your God, and do His commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today.”

11 Moses also commanded the people on that day, saying, 12 “When you cross the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on ^aMount Gerizim to bless the people: ^bSimeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 For the curse, these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 The Levites shall then respond and say to all the people of Israel with a loud voice,

15 ‘Cursed is the person who makes ^aa carved image or cast metal image, an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of a craftsman, and sets it up in secret.’ And ^ball the people shall reply and say, ‘Amen.’

16 ‘^aCursed is one who treats his father or mother contemptuously.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

17 ‘^aCursed is one who displaces his neighbor’s boundary marker.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

18 ‘^aCursed is one who misleads a person who is blind on the road.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

19 ‘^aCursed is one who distorts the justice due a stranger, an ¹orphan, or a widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

20 ‘^aCursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, because he has ¹uncovered his father’s garment.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

21 ‘^aCursed is one who has sexual intercourse with any animal.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

22 ‘^aCursed is he who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or of his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

23 ‘^aCursed is he who sleeps with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

24 ‘^aCursed is he who attacks his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

25 ‘^aCursed is he who accepts a bribe to attack an innocent person.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

26 ‘^aCursed is anyone who does not fulfill the words of this Law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people, saying, “Keep (remember, obey) all the commandments which I am commanding you today. 2 ^aSo it shall be on the day when you cross the Jordan to enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set up for yourself large stones and coat them with plaster (lime, whitewash) . 3 You shall write on the stones all the words of this law when you cross over, so that you may go into the land which the LORD your God gives you, ^aa land of plenty ¹flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers has promised you. 4 Now when you cross the Jordan you shall set up these stones ^aon Mount Ebal, just as I am commanding you today and coat them with plaster. 5 There you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones; you ^ashall not use an iron tool on them. 6 You shall build the altar of the LORD your God with whole uncut stones, and offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God; 7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and shall eat there, and shall ^arejoice before the LORD your God. 8 And you shall write very clearly on the stones all the words of this law.”

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests said to all Israel, “Be silent and listen, O Israel! This day you have become a people for the LORD your God. 10 So you shall obey the voice of the LORD your God, and do His commandments and statutes which I am commanding you today.”

11 Moses also commanded the people that day, saying, 12 “These tribes shall stand on ^aMount Gerizim to bless the people when you have crossed the Jordan: ^bSimeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, ¹Joseph, and Benjamin. 13 These tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce the curse for disobedience: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. 14 The Levites shall answer with a loud voice to all the men of Israel:

15 ‘Cursed is the man who makes ^aa carved or cast image (idol) , a repulsive thing to the LORD, the work of the hands of the artisan, and sets it up in secret.’ ^bAll the people shall answer and say, ‘Amen.’

16 ‘^aCursed is he who dishonors (treats with contempt) his father or his mother.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

17 ‘^aCursed is he who moves his neighbor’s boundary mark.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

18 ‘^aCursed is he who misleads a blind person on the road.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

19 ‘^aCursed is he who distorts (perverts) the justice due to a stranger, an orphan, and a widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

20 ‘^aCursed is he who is intimate with his father’s former wife, because he has ¹violated what belongs to his father.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

21 ‘^aCursed is he who is intimate with any animal.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

22 ‘^aCursed is he who is intimate with his half- sister, whether his father’s or his mother’s daughter.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

23 ‘^aCursed is he who is intimate with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

24 ‘^aCursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

25 ‘^aCursed is he who accepts a bribe to strike down an innocent person.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

26 ‘^aCursed is he who does not confirm the words of this law by doing them keeping them, taking them to heart as the rule of his life.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’
