Then King David said to the entire assembly, “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, ^ais still young and inexperienced and the work is great; for ^bthe ¹temple is not for man, but for Yahweh God. 2 Now ^awith all my power I have prepared for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, onyx stones and inlaid stones, stones of antimony and stones of various colors, and all kinds of precious stones and alabaster in abundance. 3 Moreover, in my pleasure in the house of my God, the treasure I have of gold and silver, I give to the house of my God, over and above all that I have already prepared for the holy ¹house, 4 namely, ^1a3,000 talents of gold, of ^bthe gold of Ophir, and ²7,000 talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the ³buildings; 5 of gold for the things of gold and of silver for the things of silver, that is, for all the work done by the hand of craftsmen. Who then would offer willingly ¹to ordain himself this day to Yahweh?”

6 Then ^athe commanders of the fathers’ households, and the commanders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with ^bthe commanders of the king’s work, offered willingly; 7 and for the service for the house of God they gave 5,000 talents and 10,000 ^1adarics of gold, and 10,000 talents of silver, and 18,000 talents of brass, and 100,000 talents of iron. 8 ¹And whoever possessed precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of Yahweh, ²in the care of ^aJehiel the Gershonite. 9 Then the people were glad because they had offered so willingly, for they made their freewill offering to Yahweh ^awith a whole heart, and King David also was exceedingly glad.

10 So David blessed Yahweh in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, “Blessed are You, O Yahweh, the God of Israel our father, from everlasting to everlasting. 11 ^aYours, O Yahweh, is the greatness and the ¹power and the glory and the ²victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the kingdom, O Yahweh, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. 12 ^aBoth riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and ^bin Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. 13 So now, our God, we are thanking You and praising Your glorious name.

14 “But who am I and who are my people that we should ¹be able to offer as willingly as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You. 15 For ^awe are sojourners before You, and foreign residents, like all our fathers were; ^bour days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. 16 O Yahweh our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours. 17 And I know, O my God, that ^aYou try the heart and ^bdelight in uprightness. I, in the uprightness of my heart, have willingly offered all these things. So now with gladness I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You. 18 O Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the ¹intentions of the heart of Your people, and prepare their heart to You; 19 and ^agive to my son Solomon a whole heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies and Your statutes, and to do them all, and ^bto build the ¹temple, for which I have made preparation.”

20 Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless Yahweh your God.” And ^aall the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and ^bbowed low and prostrated themselves to Yahweh and to the king.

21 And on the next day ^athey ¹made sacrifices to Yahweh and offered burnt offerings to Yahweh, 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, and 1,000 lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22 So they ate and drank that day before Yahweh with great gladness.David’s Officials and Sons Pledge Allegiance

And they made Solomon the son of David king ^aa second time, and they ^banointed him as ruler for Yahweh and Zadok as priest. 23 Then ^aSolomon sat on the throne of Yahweh as king instead of David his father; and he succeeded, and all Israel obeyed him. 24 And all the officials, the mighty men, and also all the sons of King David ¹pledged allegiance to King Solomon. 25 ^aAnd Yahweh highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel, and ^bgranted to him royal majesty which had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Now ^aDavid the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 ^aAnd the ¹time which he reigned over Israel was forty years; in Hebron he reigned seven years and ²in Jerusalem thirty-three years.

28 Then he died in ^aa good old age, ^bfull of days, riches and glory; and his son Solomon became king in his place. 29 Now the acts of King David, from first to last, behold, they are written in the chronicles of ^aSamuel the seer, in the chronicles of ^bNathan the prophet and in the chronicles of ^cGad the seer, 30 with all his reign, his might, and the circumstances which came on him, on Israel, and on all the kingdoms of the lands.

10 So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, “Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever. 11 ^aYours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. 12 ^aBoth riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and ^bin Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone. 13 Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.

For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You. 15 For ^awe are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; ^bour days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope. 16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours. 17 Since I know, O my God, that ^aYou try the heart and ^bdelight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You. 18 O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the ¹intentions of the heart of Your people, and direct their heart to You; 19 and ^agive to my son Solomon a perfect heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies and Your statutes, and to do them all, and ^bto build the ¹temple, for which I have made provision.”

20 Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless the LORD your God.” And ^aall the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers, and ^bbowed low and did homage to the LORD and to the king.

21 On the next day ^athey ¹made sacrifices to the LORD and offered burnt offerings to the LORD, 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams and 1,000 lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22 So they ate and drank that day before the LORD with great gladness.Solomon Again Made King

28 Then he died in ^aa ¹ripe old age, ^bfull of days, riches and honor; and his son Solomon reigned in his place. 29 Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the chronicles of ^aSamuel the seer, in the chronicles of ^bNathan the prophet and in the chronicles of ^cGad the seer, 30 with all his reign, his power, and the circumstances which came on him, on Israel, and on all the kingdoms of the lands.

And King David said to all the assembly, “My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, ^ais still young and inexperienced and the work is great; for ^bthe ¹temple is not for man but for the LORD God. 2 So ^awith all my ability I have provided for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, silver for the things of silver, bronze for the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, as well as onyx stones and stones to be inlaid, stones of antimony (a brittle, silvery-white metal) and stones of various colors, and all kinds of precious stones and alabaster in abundance. 3 Moreover, because I delight in the house of my God, the personal treasure that I have of gold and silver, I give to the house of my God, in addition to all that I have already provided for the holy house: 4 namely, ^a3,000 talents of gold from the ^bgold of Ophir, and 7,000 talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings; 5 gold for the things of gold, silver for the things of silver, that is, for all the work to be done by craftsmen. Now who is willing to ¹consecrate himself today to the LORD?”

6 Then ^athe rulers of the fathers’ households, and leaders of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with ^bthe overseers of the king’s work, offered willingly 7 and gave for the service of the house of God: 5,000 talents and 10,000 ^adarics of gold, and 10,000 talents of silver, and 18,000 talents of bronze, and 100,000 talents of iron. 8 Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, in the care of ^aJehiel the Gershonite. 9 Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for ^awith a whole and blameless heart they had offered freely to the LORD. King David also rejoiced greatly.

10 Therefore David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly and said, “Blessed (praised, adored, and thanked) are You, O LORD God of Israel (Jacob) our father, forever and ever. 11 ^aYours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and on the earth; Yours is the dominion and kingdom, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all. 12 ^aBoth riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all. ^bIn Your hand is power and might; and it is in Your hands to make great and to give strength to everyone. 13 Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.

14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your own hand we have given to You. 15 For ^awe are ¹sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; ^bour days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope of remaining. 16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build You a house for Your holy Name, it is from Your hand, and is all Your own. 17 I know also, my God, that ^aYou test the heart and ^bdelight in uprightness and integrity. In the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things. So now with joy I have seen Your people who are present here, make their offerings willingly and freely to You. 18 O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the minds of Your people, and direct their hearts toward You; 19 and ^agive to my son Solomon a perfect heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies, and Your statutes, and to do all that is necessary ^bto build the temple for You, for which I have made provision.”

20 Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless (praise, thank) the LORD your God.” And ^aall the assembly blessed the LORD, the God of their fathers, and ^bbowed down and honored the LORD and the king as His earthly representative.

21 The next day ^athey offered sacrifices and burnt offerings to the LORD: 1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, and 1,000 lambs, with their drink offerings (libations) and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel. 22 They ate and drank that day before the LORD with great rejoicing.Solomon Again Made King

They made Solomon the son of David king ^aa second time, and ^banointed him as ruler for the LORD and Zadok as high priest. 23 Then ^aSolomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of David his father; and he prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All of the leaders and warriors, and also all the sons of King David, pledged allegiance to King Solomon. 25 ^aThe LORD highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel, and ^bbestowed on him royal majesty which had not been on any king before him in Israel.

26 Thus ^aDavid the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel. 27 ^aThe time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

28 He died in ^aa good old age his seventy-first year, ^bfull of days (satisfied) , riches and honor. Solomon his son reigned in his place. 29 Now the acts of King David, from first to last, are written in the chronicles (records) of ^aSamuel the seer, in the chronicles of ^bNathan the prophet, and in the chronicles of ^cGad the seer, 30 with accounts of all his reign, and his power, and the times and circumstances which came on him, on Israel, and on all the kingdoms of the surrounding lands.
