O Yahweh, Remember Us!

Remember, O Yahweh, what has happened to us;Look, and see our ^areproach!2 Our inheritance has been turned over to ^astrangers,Our ^bhouses to foreigners.3 We have become orphans ^awithout a father;Our mothers are like widows.4 We drink our ^awater by means of silver;Our wood comes to us at a price.5 ¹Our pursuers are at our necks;We are worn out; there is ^ano rest for us.6 We have given over our ¹hands to ^aEgypt and Assyria ²to get enough bread.7 Our ^afathers sinned; they are no more;It is we who have borne their iniquities.8 ^aSlaves rule over us;There is ^bno one to tear us away from their hand.9 We get our bread ¹at the ^arisk of our lives²Because of the sword in the wilderness.10 Our skin has become as ^ahot as an ovenBecause of ¹the burning heat of famine.11 They violated the ^awomen in Zion,The virgins in the cities of Judah.12 Princes were hung by their hands;¹^aElders were not respected.13 Young men ^alifted up the stone at the grinding mill,And youths ^bstumbled down under loads of wood.14 Elders have ceased from being at the gate,Young men from their ^amusic.15 The joy of our hearts has ^aceased;Our dancing has been turned into mourning.16 The ^acrown has fallen from our head;^bWoe to us, for we have sinned!17 Because of this our ^aheart is faint;Because of these things our ^beyes are dim;18 Because of ^aMount Zion which lies desolate,^bFoxes walk about in it.

19 ^aYou, O Yahweh, sit enthroned forever;Your ^bthrone is from generation to generation.20 Why do You ^aforget us forever?Why do You forsake us ¹so long?21 ^aCause us to return to You, O Yahweh, that we may be returned;Renew ^bour days as of old,22 Even if ^aYou have utterly rejected usAnd are exceedingly ^bangry with us.

A Prayer for Mercy

O LORD, remember what has come upon us;Look, and see our ^areproach (national disgrace) !2 Our inheritance has been turned over to ^astrangers,Our ^bhouses to foreigners.3 We have become orphans without a ^afather;Our mothers are like widows.4 We have to pay for our drinking ^awater;Our wood comes to us at a price.5 Our pursuers are at our necks;We are worn out, there is ^ano rest for us.6 We have given the hand as a pledge of fidelity and submission to ^aEgypt and Assyria to get enough bread.7 Our ^afathers sinned, and are no more;It is ¹we who have carried their sin. Is 65:7; Jer 16:11, 12; 31:29; Ezek 18:2-48 ^aServants rule over us;There is ^bno one to rescue us out of their hand. Neh 5:159 We get our bread at the ^arisk of our livesBecause of the sword of the Arabs in the wilderness who may attack if we go out to harvest the crop.10 Our skin is ^aas hot as the heat of an ovenBecause of the burning heat of the fever of famine.11 They ravished the ^awomen in Zion,The virgins in the cities of Judah.12 Princes were hung by their hands;^aElders were not respected.13 Young men ^aworked at the grinding mill,And boys ^bfell staggering under loads of wood.14 Elders are gone from the gate;Young men from their ^amusic.15 ^aThe joy of our hearts has ended;Our dancing has been turned into mourning.16 The ^acrown has fallen from our head our honor is covered with dust!^bWoe to us, for we have sinned!17 Because of this our ^aheart is faint,Because of these things our ^beyes are dim.18 As for ^aMount Zion, which lies desolate,^bFoxes and the jackals prowl over it.

19 But ^aYou, O LORD, reign forever;Your ^bthrone endures from generation to all generations.20 Why do You ^aforget us forever?Why do You forsake us so long?21 ^aReturn us to You, O LORD, so that we may be restored;Renew ^bour days as of old,22 Unless ^aYou have utterly rejected usAnd are exceedingly ^bangry with us.
